Example of a transitional balcony design in San Francisco with a roof extension

This San Francisco home wanted to diffuse light from the upper levels down throughout the lower levels. Blank and Cables custom fabricated a floating staircase with a glass guardrail to spread light throughout the multi-level home. Blackened steel rides along the staircase in one continuous run to enhance the “floating effect” created from the wall anchored treads.
This modern home office is the entry pt for lighting throughout the entire house. From here the light shines down to the lower levels where it is evenly dispersed from the floating staircase that winds through the center of the house.

Gorgeous curved entry staircase, with dark wood, wrought iron railing and pendants hanging above.

The den/lounge provides a perfect place for the evening wind-down. Anchored by a black sectional sofa, the room features a mix of modern elements like the Verner Panton throw and the Eames coffee table, and global elements like the romantic wall-covering of gondolas floating in a sea of lanterns.

The focal point in the kitchen is the deep navy, French range positioned in an alcove trimmed in distressed natural wood and finished with handmade tile. The arched marble backsplash of the bar creates a dramatic focal point visible from the dining room.

Working closely with interior designer Bay Hill Design, our carpentry crews seamlessly integrated a storage nook and shelf system at the front entry with the winding staircase. A custom steel handrail provides a sleek and modern feel to this cozy entrance.

Oak hardwoods were laced into the existing floors, butcher block countertops contrast against the painted shaker cabinets, matte brass fixtures add sophistication, while the custom subway tile range hood and feature wall with floating shelves pop against the dark wall. The best feature? A dishwasher. After all these years as a couple, this is the first time the two have a dishwasher. The new space makes the home feel twice as big and utilizes classic choices as the backdrop to their unique style.
