Toros Black marble forms over geological timescales as intense metamorphic pressure compresses carbonate minerals into a dense, near-opaque black ground fractured by irregular white veining — each honed natural stone pedestal sink emerging as a structurally singular object. The two-piece construction pairs a tapered cylindrical column with a precisely cut 17"x20" oval basin, the matte honed finish absorbing rather than reflecting light to emphasize the stone's tonal depth. Aspect 221 is a multi-experiential home designed for a multi-generational family. Set on a sloping corner property in a 1960's Golden Valley neighborhood, this home offers a variety of ways to connect to the immediate landscapes and distant views. The house itself is divided vertically with interaction between families occurring through the centrally located sculptural stair. Horizontal movement in each direction leads to distinct environments provided for the families; multiple habitats offering variety of space, light, and privacy. Expanding towards the west, the property takes advantage of the sweeping views and provides a perfect opportunity for a walk-out lower level and tuck under garage. The young family occupies the middle and upper floors, while the parents occupy the lower level. Each family has their own private entry and dedicated outdoor space. The home has 4 distinct outdoor spaces; a north shade deck and south sun deck, as well as an upper east lawn and lower west lawn. These spaces provide multiple habitats for the families to come together or move apart, offering variety and privacy. We designed Aspect 221 with a nod to the various “aspects” offered by the site and its natural context. The base of the house is a black monolithic plinth anchored into the hillside, containing the garage and older parent’s home. This allows the upper two floors, enclosed in a fractured white and wood box, to remain humanly scaled and to move and gesture freely by twisting the middle floor off axis, and then twisting the upper floor off axis again. Each level offers views in varied directions revealing the site in different ways as you rise in elevation. The 5,000 square foot private residence is located in the community of Horseshoe Bay, above the shores of Lake LBJ, and responds to the Texas Hill Country vernacular prescribed by the community: shallow metal roofs, regional materials, sensitive scale massing and water-wise landscaping. The house opens to the scenic north and north-west views and fractures and shifts in order to keep significant oak, mesquite, elm, cedar and persimmon trees, in the process creating lush private patios and limestone terraces. The Owners desired an accessible residence built for flexibility as they age. This led to a single level home, and the challenge to nestle the step-less house into the sloping landscape. Full height glazing opens the house to the very beautiful arid landscape, while porches and overhangs protect interior spaces from the harsh Texas sun. Expansive walls of industrial insulated glazing panels allow soft modulated light to penetrate the interior while providing visual privacy. An integral lap pool with adjacent low fenestration reflects dappled light deep into the house. Chaste stained concrete floors and blackened steel focal elements contrast with islands of mesquite flooring, cherry casework and fir ceilings. Selective areas of exposed limestone walls, some incorporating salvaged timber lintels, and cor-ten steel components further the contrast within the uncomplicated framework. The Owner’s object and art collection is incorporated into the residence’s sequence of connecting galleries creating a choreography of passage that alternates between the lucid expression of simple ranch house architecture and the rich accumulation of their heritage. The entire area was lawn. We removed it, poured a concrete underslab, installed anti-fracture membrane and finished it with natural stone tile slabs.

The original multiple decks and elevated patio blocked the pool and fractured the space. This design creates an elegant progression from the home’s interior to poolside. The wide stairs oriented towards the pool provide pool views from the entire deck. The interior level provides for relaxed seating and dining with the magnificence of nature. The descent of a short group of stairs leads to the outdoor kitchen level. The barbeque is bordered in stone topped with a countertop of granite. The outdoor kitchen level is positioned for easy access midway from either the pool or interior level. From the kitchen level an additional group of stairs flow down to the paver patio surrounding the pool. Also incorporated is a downstairs entry and ample space for storage beneath the deck sourced through an access panel. The design connects the interior to poolside by means of a rich and functional outdoor living design.

In an era when housing is becoming increasingly scarce, small structures are making a big difference. The Crystal ADU is one of them — a compact, beautifully detailed dwelling designed by F9 Productions to deliver both function and artistry within just 160 square feet. The Idea The client came to F9 with their own sketches — early ideas drawn from the fractured symmetry of natural crystals. They envisioned a minimalist refuge that was as expressive as it was efficient. We took that spark and shaped it into a refined architectural statement: a simple rectangle capped by a striking, asymmetrical roof that catches the light like a cut gem. Design and Craft The defining detail — a roof so thin it appears almost weightless — demanded careful problem-solving. Standard framing would have compromised the delicate profile. Instead, our team engineered a custom edge detail that maintains the sleek form while ensuring structural integrity and energy performance. This kind of precision is what transforms a small project into a showcase of design craft. Inside the Space Step inside, and the attention to detail continues. Every square inch is intentional. Built-in cabinetry wraps the walls, and a fold-down Murphy bed disappears to reveal open living space. In the bathroom, clever storage niches and a tankless water heater make the most of every inch. A skylight above the shower floods the space with natural light — warm, private, and bright. Efficiency in Every Sense Compact living comes with natural advantages. The small volume of the Crystal ADU reduces energy use, while a ductless mini-split system maintains comfort year-round. This simplicity makes the building both efficient and elegant — a perfect reflection of F9’s design philosophy: functional minimalism with a human touch. The Result The Crystal ADU shows that size doesn’t define quality — design does. It’s a small footprint with a big message: that thoughtful architecture can solve real housing challenges while creating spaces people love to inhabit. The future of housing may be smaller, but with projects like this, it’s infinitely brighter.
