San Rafael Overview: This garden project began with the demolition of an existing pool and decks cantilevered over a hillside. The garden was originally a Japanese-themed garden retreat and free-form shaped pool. While the client wanted to update and replace many elements, they sought to keep the free-form characteristics of the existing design and repurpose existing materials. BK Landscape Design created a new garden with revetment walls and steps to a succulent garden with salvaged boulders from the pool and pool coping. We built a colored concrete path to access a new wood trellis constructed on the center-line view from the master bedroom. A combination of Bay friendly, native and evergreen plantings were chosen for the planting palette. The overhaul of the yard included low-voltage lighting and minimal drainage. A new wood deck replaced the existing one at the entrance as well as a deck off of the master bedroom that was also constructed from repurposed materials. The style mimics the architectural detail of the mansard roof and simple horizontal wood siding of the house. After removing a juniper (as required by the San Rafael Fire Department within the Wildland-Urban interface) we designed and developed a full front-yard planting plan. All plants are Bay-Friendly, native, and irrigated with a more efficient in-line drip irrigation system to minimize water use. Low-voltage lighting and minimal drainage were also part of the overhaul of the front yard redesign.

Hayden Estate Spa: The DTV Digital Command Center & Total Hydrotherapy This close-up perspective dives into the high-tech core of the en-suite’s 18-head steam suite. This view demonstrates the sophisticated integration required to pull off a private, residential spa. By utilizing a central Kohler DTV digital command center, we provided the homeowner with total, computerized control over their hydrotherapy, steam, and environmental settings in one seamless, wall-mounted interface. Advanced Technical & Design Specs: DTV Digital Interface: This wall-mounted, computerized controller is the hub of the entire system. It orchestrates water temperature, flow, steam duration, integrated lighting, and the Bluetooth Polk Audio soundscape, all from a user-friendly digital display. 18-Outlet Command Matrix: The system manages an expansive array of 18 total water sources, including the visible column of high-pressure wall-mounted massaging body sprayers. Note the precision vertical alignment, engineered to provide a customizable full-body massage. Racing-Grade Steam Suite: This view highlights the steam-tight glass enclosure, essential for maintaining the custom "racing-grade" steam generator's efficiency. The deep, radius-cornered LED-lit shampoo niche adds functionality while proving that technical spaces don’t sacrifice artisan finish. Integrated Precision Lighting: The subtle linear LED lighting in the recessed niche and the computerized ambient light settings controlled by the DTV panel ensure the perfect atmosphere, from an energizing morning shower to a relaxing evening steam. Material Integrity: The large-format Italian porcelain tile flows directly into the shower floor over the thermostat-controlled radiant heating system, providing a "cold-spot-free" transition into the hydrotherapy zone.

Inspiration for a timeless kitchen remodel in Salt Lake City

This kitchen features Fieldstone Custom Cabinetry in the Stratford door style with a clean white finish. There are stacked cabinets that reach the tray ceiling with clear glass fronts ion the upper level. The backsplash features the 3x6 ceramic subway tile in Grigio from Cancos' Whisper line. Kohler fixtures were used, including the Whitehaven apron front sink and the Artifacts kitchen & prep faucets. A filtered hot-cold water dispenser from Insinkerator was also chosed to complement the faucets. Hardware, including cup pulls, is from Top Knobs' Somerset Weston line in Antique Pewter. The Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Basko appliances were paneled and installed with the flush-inset approach, to keep a streamlined look with the cabinets. A rectangular island includes a prep sink and double-ogee edge treatment on Silestone's Cygnus color. The decorative wood hood from Stanici delivers a focal point with beautiful curved lines, found also above & below the refrigerator and the shape of the cup pulls. This bedroom and full bathroom are part of an adventuresome project my wife and I embarked upon to create a complete apartment in the basement of our townhouse. We designed a floor plan that creatively and efficiently used all of the 385-square-foot-space, without sacrificing beauty, comfort or function – and all without breaking the bank! To maximize our budget, we did the work ourselves and added everything from thrift store finds to DIY wall art to bring it all together. A partial double closet bar adds a little extra space while still leaving room for longer hanging clothes.

This project shows the remodel of a small 1950's vintage home master bathroom. 8"" x 18" Calcutta gold marble tile was used on the shower walls and floor wall base and ceramic gray penny tile on the floor. Shower includes curbless pan / floor, dual shower boxes, frameless glass slider, trough duel fixture sink and chrome fixtures.
