A new paver entry with red wood "bridge" to go over the dry river bed that captures rain water. Differing sizes of cobble provide interest for the different areas of the landscape. A low stucco wall divides the front yard into a public and private space. The private space includes a fire pit, seating area, and flagstone path.

Old lawn was transformed into a drought-resistant garden offering ever-changing colors and textures. Turf removal rebate from the local water agency helped offset the cost. A new stucco wall with iron gates were built to create an enclosed porch/courtyard to give homeowners a much-needed buffer between their home and the hustle and bustle of a big city . This front yard was in desperate need of a little curb appeal and we were up to the challenge! Wanting a unique look, we put a twist on the classic front stoop and walkway design by adding more patio space, an inset circle for a portable fire pit, and a seat wall to separate the patio space from the attached driveway. The patio features Belgard's Laffit Rustic Slab pavers in London Grey with a soldiers course of Holland Stone in Ashbury Haze. The inset circle is comprised of Holland Stone in Bristol Beige. The contrasting colors create a stunning design element. The seat wall and raised flowerbed were built with Weston Wall bricks, also in Ashbury Haze. A simple, elegant, and unique design that would compliment any home. ~Palatine, IL

This front yard had to also act as a clients back yard. The existing back yard is a ravine, so there is little room to functionally use it. This created a design element to create a sense of space/privacy while also allowing the Mid Century Modern Architecture to shine through. (and keep the feel of a front yard) We used concrete walls to break up the rooms, and guide people into the front entrance. We added IPE details on the wall and planters to soften the concrete, and Ore Inc aluminum containers with a rust finish to frame the entrance. The Aspen trees break the horizontal plane and are lit up at night, further defining the front yard. All the trees are on color lights and have the ability to change at the click of a button for both holidays, and seasonal accents. The slate chip beds keep the bed lines clean and clearly define the planting ares versus the lawn areas. The walkway is one monolithic pour that mimics the look of large scale pavers, with the added function of smooth,set-in-place, concrete.

The living space extends out to functional places in the back and front yards: a private shaded back yard and a sunny seating area in the front yard off the kitchen where neighbors can easily mingle with the family. A Japanese bath off the master bedroom upstairs overlooks a private roof deck which is screened from neighbors’ views by a trellis with plants growing from planter boxes and with lanterns hanging from a trellis above. Patio - contemporary patio idea in San Francisco

Front yard remodeling. Project is including: block wall with smooth stucco finish, wood fence from Ipe on top of the new block wall, slate tile, fire pit, build in BBQ, wood deck from Trex and drop in Jacuzzi.

This project was completed in conjunction with the construction of the home. The home’s architect was looking for someone who could design and build a new driveway, front entrance, walkways, patio, fencing, and plantings. The gardens were designed for the homeowner who had a real appreciation for gardening and was looking for variety and colour. The plants are all perennials that are relatively low maintenance while offering a wide variety of colours, heights, shapes and textures. For the hardscape, we used a Mondrian slab interlock for the main features and added a natural stone border for architectural detail.
