I built 5 of these "Coat & Key Racks" based on an idea I had seen at craft fair in Knoxville TN that only had doorknobs for a coat hook. Since everyone usually leaves there coats and keys at the door, I decided to add a place for keys. I cut a solid wood door into 5 sections and added a small shelf on top. Then I installed my porcelain doorknob collection and my antique key collections. The "key holes" are solid brass & were purchased online. They were given as gifts to my family members.

The wainscoting is made from reclaimed white barn board. For this special job, no wood was joined, every edge was eased to look worn with a wavering block plane. Knots, bullet holes, gouges, old paint, saw marks and every other imperfection were embraced and showcased for the story they represented. Nothing looks new. The ceiling is treated with tongue and grooved, beveled cedar planks. There is nothing more incongruous than when a room is rustic but the sheetrock walls are left smooth - especially when the wall are left white. To give the walls an aged look we used a two-tone yellow-gold, coarse Venetian plaster. PHOTO CREDIT: John Ray

The front door replacement. The existing all wood doors had small lites (windows) letting in almost no light. We replaced the doors with these customized stock steel doors. The light floods the main level.

The bottom part features a large pullout drawer for extra storage right below the platform meant to facilitate seating. The platform base reveals a sleek elliptical arch design.
