A candy dispenser, lots of exposed shelf space, and a wide, varnished wood counter gives you plenty of space to keep the treats you love handy and on display. Seating for 6-8 creates a welcoming environment, but the wine cellar nearby will have everyone up and out of their seats in no time, admiring the integrated wine barrels and old-world charm.

The design of this home was driven by the owners’ desire for a three-bedroom waterfront home that showcased the spectacular views and park-like setting. As nature lovers, they wanted their home to be organic, minimize any environmental impact on the sensitive site and embrace nature. This unique home is sited on a high ridge with a 45° slope to the water on the right and a deep ravine on the left. The five-acre site is completely wooded and tree preservation was a major emphasis. Very few trees were removed and special care was taken to protect the trees and environment throughout the project. To further minimize disturbance, grades were not changed and the home was designed to take full advantage of the site’s natural topography. Oak from the home site was re-purposed for the mantle, powder room counter and select furniture. The visually powerful twin pavilions were born from the need for level ground and parking on an otherwise challenging site. Fill dirt excavated from the main home provided the foundation. All structures are anchored with a natural stone base and exterior materials include timber framing, fir ceilings, shingle siding, a partial metal roof and corten steel walls. Stone, wood, metal and glass transition the exterior to the interior and large wood windows flood the home with light and showcase the setting. Interior finishes include reclaimed heart pine floors, Douglas fir trim, dry-stacked stone, rustic cherry cabinets and soapstone counters. Exterior spaces include a timber-framed porch, stone patio with fire pit and commanding views of the Occoquan reservoir. A second porch overlooks the ravine and a breezeway connects the garage to the home. Numerous energy-saving features have been incorporated, including LED lighting, on-demand gas water heating and special insulation. Smart technology helps manage and control the entire house. State-of-the-art home theater environment featuring a sound isolated room, a 227” 2.40:1 aspect ratio screen illuminated by a dual laser projection system, and an 11.2.4 immersive audio system delivering an outstanding movie AND music experience. The control system simplifies extremely unique customer requirements such as a dual screen mode to enable watching two A/V sources simultaneously – one heard through the audio system, and the second through headphones. Granular lighting control provides zones to support movie playback, game-room style usage, and an intimate reading and music environment. The room was built from the ground up as “floating” room featuring a custom engineered isolation system, floating concrete floor, and unique speaker placement system. Designed by industry renowned acoustician Russ Berger, the room’s noise floor measured quieter than a typical recording studio and produces a pinpoint accurate reference audio experience. Powered by a 20kW RoseWater HUB20, electrical noise and potential power interruptions are completely eliminated. The audio system is driven by 11.1kW of amplification powering a reference speaker system. Every detail from structural to mechanical, A/V, lighting, and control was carefully planned and executed by a team of experts whose passion, dedication, and commitment to quality are evident to anyone who experiences it.

A view of the beautifully landscaped grounds and cutting garden are on full display in this all purpose room for the family. When the client's decided to turn the living room into a game room, this space needed to step up. A small breakfast table was added to the corner next to the kitchen-- a great place to eat or do homework-- mixing the farmhouse and mid-century elements the client's love. A large sectional provides a comfortable space for the whole family to watch TV or hang out. Crypton fabric was used on this custom Kravet sectional to provide a no-worry environment, as well as indoor/outdoor rugs. Especially necessary since the sliders lead out to the dining and pool areas. The client's inherited collection of coastal trinkets adorns the console. Large basket weave pendants were added to the ceiling, and sconces added to the walls for an additional layer of light. The mural was maintained-- a nod to the bevy of birds dining on seeds in the feeders beyond the window. A fresh coat of white paint brightens up the woodwork and carries the same trim color throughout the house.
