Bringing the inside out; The wide front porch eases the transition from outside to inside, creating an almost room-like feel. The Mohrman's play up this concept by incorporating a variety of furnishings including a former kitchen chair repainted gloss black. String lighting imbues summer evenings with a warm incandescent glow. A colorful array of pillows adorn the swing on the front porch, making for a comfortable place to relax on balmy days. French Manor Mission Hills, Kansas This new Country French Manor style house is located on a one-acre site in Mission Hills, Kansas. Our design is a traditional 2-story center hall plan with the primary living areas on the first floor, placing the formal living and dining rooms to the front of the house and the informal breakfast and family rooms to the rear with direct access to the brick paved courtyard terrace and pool. The exterior building materials include oversized hand-made brick with cut limestone window sills and door surrounds and a sawn cedar shingle roofing. The Country French style of the interior of the house is detailed using traditional materials such as handmade terra cotta tile flooring, oak flooring in a herringbone pattern, reclaimed antique hand-hewn wood beams, style and rail wall paneling, Venetian plaster, and handmade iron stair railings. Rather than cutting off the lighter part of the wood as is typically done, we used the sapwood of walnut as a natural design element in the custom kitchen cabinets. This project was inspired by a fusion of: contemporary elements, farmhouse warmth, geometric design & overall convenience. The style is eclectic as a result. Our clients wanted something unique to them and a reflection of their style to greet them each day. With details that are custom like the hood and the ceramic tile backsplash, there are standard elements worked into the space to truly show off this couple's personal style.
