I did a gut kitchen remodel when I first moved into my home over 30 years ago, and so I was loath to admit that it was due for an update. While I dreaded the prospect (the cost, the stress, the dust EVERYWHERE!), the accumulating cost of repairs got to the point where I knew I had to bite the bullet on a full reno. When researching local designers, my key goal was to find someone with the skill to design a modern functional kitchen while honoring the architecture of my 1920s Spanish Revival home. I hired Devon and Jess based on the strength of a kitchen remodel they designed for a 1910s Craftsman that struck the prefect balance between modern function and historic charm. I’m now happily on the other end of a renovation project that was a complete joy. Jess and Devon work together seamlessly, complementing each other’s skills and enhancing each other’s ideas. They took my must-haves and challenges, and gave me a kitchen that is exactly what I asked for, while also something I never could have imagined on my own. The added bonus is that, dust be damned, the process was a delight.

We couldn't have done our home renovation without Devon and Jess - their input and management got us across the finish line with fabulous results. They were amazing collaborators, taking all of our disparate tastes, preferences, and ideas, and culling them into a cohesive and beautiful new kitchen and bathroom. My wife and I recruited Hive (we found them on Houzz, actually!) to help us imagine a new kitchen and to invent a second bathroom for our small Los Angeles home. We have never owned a home before nor have we undertaken any kind of renovation. It was an adventure and having Hive be part of it was the most important part - they are the best! The design stage was impeccable and we benefited from thinking through multiple different versions of our general design goals before committing to one. The construction phase brought some unexpected challenges and delays as COVID-19 surges and quarantines changed circumstances. We were lucky to have Hive advocate for us along the way, to focus on what details were important, and to continue discussing how small design choices fit into our overall plan. We had no idea how much reassurance, support, and thoughtful reflection would come into play and Jess and Devon made it easy. Our house is a dream and we’ve loved sharing it with family and friends. We see the choices, challenges, and thoughtful conversations we had along the way in our new kitchen and bathroom and know it is even more special because Hive was part of it. There wasn’t a whole lot that went well in 2020, but Jess and Devon’s work on our home was a ray of light in an otherwise dreary year. They brought their expertise and attention to detail to transform our home. Smart, thoughtful, and deliberate choices and consistent communication made them a joy to work with. Above all, they listened to us and struck the exact balance we were seeking. We are so happy with the results. Just in time as we finally may start having people over in the coming months!

Devon and Jess were fantastic! We did a gut re-do of both bathrooms, and installed a new washer/dryer (housed in a custom cabinet), in our 2-bedroom condo. They were patient and very supportive during a project that spanned 15 months from our first design meeting to completion. (Our original contractor bailed out just prior to our initial start date, delaying the project by a couple of months.) Devon and Jess never failed to come up with creative solutions, and maintained a positive outlook through all the ups and downs. They worked well with the new contracting crew. We did experience some challenges given the small spaces. In hindsight, I think the contractor could have benefited from slightly more precise specifications. Perhaps hire a draftsperson to execute those plans? All in all, though, we're very pleased with the end results! We couldn't have done it without these two talented designers on our team.

These two are the best! They have patience, terrific, very contemporary taste, and did I mention patience?? They reimagined our kitchen and my wife (a professional chef) is in heaven and now cooks at home-- bonus! Hire them!

I didn't realize how un-functional my house was until Devon and Jessica showed me the light! HIVE LA changed my life. With their incredible design concepts, they were able to enhance the spaces while somehow also dramatically improving functionality. They arranged the furniture and artwork in the all the rooms to compliment the design of the space itself. The real game-changer was the bedroom design. Jessica and Devon spent time discovering my personal aesthetic and enhanced it in a way that I couldn't have ever done myself. They chose simple solutions that created dramatic effects.

Collaborating with Devon and Jess feels a little like playing hooky ... so much fun, so many laughs and an abundance of inspiration. I started working with Devon 12 years ago. Devon took on the mission of helping me make Spanish style, Santa Monica home feel more current and relaxed while preserving its integrity and charm. Through the years, I called on her for projects of all sizes. When I recently moved to a Mid Century home in Malibu, Devon was my first call. It was then that she introduced me to Jess. I knew by the instantaneous connection, in our first meeting that this was going to be an awesome experience. Devon and Jess are an exceptional team. They complement each other's approach and strengths and are almost psychically connect to each other. They are true collaborators with their client. They listened to everything I had to say, looked over every tear sheet I had collected, and took in all my quirks. Magically, they would reappear with a vivid manifestation of my vision in the form of delightful fabrics, designs, colors and ideas. They are a creative, enthusiastic and innovative duet who will soon become your great friends.

Jessica and Devon are amazing! There turned a tiny room that felt like a cave into the gorgeous laundry room of my dreams. Professional, organized, and super creative. I look forward to working with them again on future projects!

Devon and Jessica were both extremely professional and creative. We had a very pleasant experience with them, and got excellent results. We were impressed how they reacted to the occasional surprises (our changes, supplier problems) with enthusiasm and quick fixes if required. Our total experience was very positive and we would certainly use Devon and Jessica again.

Jessica and Devon were an absolute pleasure to work with. They both got exactly what I was looking for and gave me amazing options for every part of our guest house remodel as well as our new utility/laundry room. They are easy to reach and followed through on every part of the remodel as well as generally being on top of every aspect of the design and decoration. I could not have done it without them! I recommend them highly and wouldn't hesitate to call them again for future projects because the end product was perfect!

Jessica & Devon are amazing! We hired them to design our new bathroom when we decided to completely gut our old one. They handled EVERYTHING from day one--from working with us on the lay-out and creating detailed plans the contractor could follow to helping us with the overall design aesthetic, including picking out all the furnishings for the bathroom (from tub to toilet paper holder). They made the whole process as fun and painless as a construction project could be. They stayed involved and responsive throughout the construction and were able to problem-solve brilliantly when issues came up. Going forward, I can’t imagine doing a renovation project or design project without them.

Devon and Jess are a dream team! I have photographed several of their projects and not only do they create stunning spaces but they are also a pleasure to work with - they are wonderfully up-beat, organized and have a great eye for detail! I am looking forward to shooting more of their projects in the future.

I've been working with Devon and Jess of Hive LA since August of 2015. Over the course of the last eighteen months or so, they've helped me revamp, restyle, and remake the interior of my home according to my pace (and schedule). Always helpful, positive, and patient, they've done a great job of not only sourcing and styling, but incorporating my favorite existing pieces into the design. Our journey together started with my desperate plea for them to help with drapes, window coverings, and pillows and evolved into bigger and bigger projects- including a total makeover of the master bedroom and other living spaces. They have excellent taste, design versatility, and great attitudes. Definitely recommend them.

I initially hired Jess & Devon to assist me with some fairly basic design & selection, which eventually evolved into a more involved space planning. They were cognizant of, and maintained the budget I asked for, and went above & beyond in all of their efforts. Cannot recommend them highly enough. Would definitely use them again in the future should the need arise.
