BISTRO BOTANICA Vintage kitchen charm, with a tropical twist. DESIGN DESCRIPTION This space pairs the nostalgic charm of an Old World kitchen with a breath of tropical whimsy. Soft aqua Shaker cabinetry, detailed with crossbuck uppers and open shelving, wraps the room in calm, cheerful colour. A dramatic watercolour mural of lush leaves and golden cockatoos turns one wall into a garden, while a marble-topped bistro table and bentwood stools create an inviting spot for morning coffee. Black-and-white hexagon tile, a stainless farmhouse sink and dark matte countertops ground the palette. Swing-arm sconces, vintage-inspired glass ceiling lights and diamond-paned windows add a final layer of character. The result is joyful, timeless and full of personality.

This charming soft gray kitchen with soaring 9 foot ceilings was a quick redo for a growing family moving from the city with a baby on the way! The kitchen flow was helped by the addition of an island, with hardworking Caesarstone countertops in Pebble give the warm feel of concrete. Situated on a 3.5 acre, oak-studded ridge atop Santa Barbara's Riviera, the Greene Compound is a 6,500 square foot custom residence with guest house and pool capturing spectacular views of the City, Coastal Islands to the south, and La Cumbre peak to the north. Carefully sited to kiss the tips of many existing large oaks, the home is rustic Mediterranean in style which blends integral color plaster walls with Santa Barbara sandstone and cedar board and batt. Landscape Architect Lane Goodkind restored the native grass meadow and added a stream bio-swale which complements the rural setting. 20' mahogany, pocketing sliding doors maximize the indoor / outdoor Santa Barbara lifestyle by opening the living spaces to the pool and island view beyond. A monumental exterior fireplace and camp-style margarita bar add to this romantic living. Discreetly buried in the mission tile roof, solar panels help to offset the home's overall energy consumption. Truly an amazing and unique property, the Greene Residence blends in beautifully with the pastoral setting of the ridge while complementing and enhancing this Riviera neighborhood.

The chance to build a lakeside weekend home in rural NC provided this Chapel Hill family with an opportunity to ditch convention and think outside the box. For instance, we traded the traditional boat dock with what's become known as the "party dock"… a floating lounge of sorts, complete with wet bar, TV, swimmer's platform, and plenty of spots for watching the water fun. Inside, we turned one bedroom into a gym with climbing wall - and dropped the idea of a dining room, in favor of a deep upholstered niche and shuffleboard table. Outdoor drapery helped blur the lines between indoor spaces and exterior porches filled with upholstery, swings, and places for lazy napping. And after the sun goes down....smores, anyone?
