Our expansive home addition and remodel added nearly fifty percent more living space to this Highland Park residence. The sunken great room captures light from French doors, ceiling-high windows and a Majestic® fireplace. The mudroom was customized to accommodate the family dogs. Upstairs, the master bedroom features a sunny window seat, and a second fireplace warms a bubbling “airbath” in the master bathroom. The shower glows with automated LED lights and the natural stone vanity sparkles with quartzite. Cup-pull handles and a Kohler® apron sink provide rustic balance to the contemporary “red dragon” island countertop in the renovated kitchen. New oak floors seamlessly unite the entire home.

We installed this pre-cast masonry fireplace, Stone Garden installed the natural-cleft stone surround and Ocean Woodworking built the oak wall panel, which hides the television. The interior design and furnishings were provided by Philip Sides.

Inspiration for a timeless bedroom remodel in New York with green walls, a stone fireplace and a standard fireplace

After years of ignoring its original warehouse aesthetic, due to a developer’s ‘apartmentizing’ of the building, this 2,400 square foot, two-story loft has been rehabilitated to show off its industrial roots. Layers of paint and drywall have been removed revealing the original timber beams and masonry walls while accommodating two bedrooms, master suite, and a lofty, open living space at the ground floor. We wanted to avoid the lifeless feeling usually associated with industrial lofts by giving the space a warm but rustic aesthetic that we think best represented the original loft building.

Clients' first home and there forever home with a family of four and in laws close, this home needed to be able to grow with the family. This most recent growth included a few home additions including the kids bathrooms (on suite) added on to the East end, the two original bathrooms were converted into one larger hall bath, the kitchen wall was blown out, entrying into a complete 22'x22' great room addition with a mudroom and half bath leading to the garage and the final addition a third car garage. This space is transitional and classic to last the test of time.

We designed the Birmingham Showhouse family room to include the characteristics of the Arts and Crafts style through the use of organic materials, with a hand-made quality. There is also slight Japanese aesthetic running through the design. It was designed to be a warm, comfortable place for the entire family to spend time in. For example, we designed the bookcases with integral, pull-out desks, allowing the room to serve many functions. The color palate is warm neutrals, with interest being added by using many textures and punches of geometric pattern. Of note, is the fireplace surround clad in patinated steel plate with rivets, the custom cow-hide herringbone rug, the drapery hardware made from copper plumbing pipe, and the antique Thai teak log trestle table. The custom ceiling light anchors the space, while the wall light swings to the desk area as needed.
