A crisp, neutral palette keeps the space feeling open and welcoming, while brushed brass fixtures and hardware add warmth and sophistication. The custom double vanity with quartz countertops provides ample space for guests, complemented by a large mirror framed in gold for a luxe touch.
A standout element is the geometric floor tile and the unique patterned screen that subtly divides the vanity from the walk-in shower. The shower itself features classic white subway tile, a frameless glass door, and sleek built-in corner shelves for functionality.

Sara and Paul Matthews call their head-turning home, located in a sweet neighborhood just up the hill from downtown Petoskey, “a very human story.” Indeed it is. Sara and her husband, Paul, have a special-needs son as well as an energetic middle-school daughter. This home has an answer for everyone. Located down the street from the school, it is ideally situated for their daughter and a self-contained apartment off the great room accommodates all their son’s needs while giving his caretakers privacy—and the family theirs. The Matthews began the building process by taking their thoughts and
needs to Stephanie Baldwin and her team at Edgewater Design Group. Beyond the above considerations, they wanted their new home to be low maintenance and to stand out architecturally, “But not so much that anyone would complain that it didn’t work in our neighborhood,” says Sara. “We
were thrilled that Edgewater listened to us and were able to give us a unique-looking house that is meeting all our needs.” Lombardy LLC built this handsome home with Paul working alongside the construction crew throughout the project. The low maintenance exterior is a cutting-edge blend of stacked stone, black corrugated steel, black framed windows and Douglas fir soffits—elements that add up to an organic contemporary look. The use of black steel, including interior beams and the staircase system, lend an industrial vibe that is courtesy of the Matthews’ friend Dan Mello of Trimet Industries in Traverse City. The couple first met Dan, a metal fabricator, a number of years ago, right around the time they found out that their then two-year-old son would never be able to walk. After the couple explained to Dan that they couldn’t find a solution for a child who wasn’t big enough for a wheelchair, he designed a comfortable, rolling chair that was just perfect. They still use it. The couple’s gratitude for the chair resulted in a trusting relationship with Dan, so it was natural for them to welcome his talents into their home-building process. A maple floor finished to bring out all of its color-tones envelops the room in warmth. Alder doors and trim and a Doug fir ceiling reflect that warmth. Clearstory windows and floor-to-ceiling window banks fill the space with light—and with views of the spacious grounds that will
become a canvas for Paul, a retired landscaper. The couple’s vibrant art pieces play off against modernist furniture and lighting that is due to an inspired collaboration between Sara and interior designer Kelly Paulsen. “She was absolutely instrumental to the project,” Sara says. “I went through
two designers before I finally found Kelly.” The open clean-lined kitchen, butler’s pantry outfitted with a beverage center and Miele coffee machine (that allows guests to wait on themselves when Sara is cooking), and an outdoor room that centers around a wood-burning fireplace, all make for easy,
fabulous entertaining. A den just off the great room houses the big-screen television and Sara’s loom—
making for relaxing evenings of weaving, game watching and togetherness. Tourgoers will leave understanding that this house is everything great design should be. Form following function—and solving very human issues with soul-soothing style.

This deck and screen room in Hillsborough, NJ has an Ipe floor and an Ipe/Cedar railing. The screen room features high-hat lighting, a ceiling fan and tongue and groove ceiling. Heavy duty cedar lattice skirting with a hinged access door enclose the underside. A Clear Cedar pergola covers the open part of the deck. The client plans to weave canvas through the pergola joists to provide shade.

This is our very first Four Elements remodel show home! We started with a basic spec-level early 2000s walk-out bungalow, and transformed the interior into a beautiful modern farmhouse style living space with many custom features. The floor plan was also altered in a few key areas to improve livability and create more of an open-concept feel. Check out the shiplap ceilings with Douglas fir faux beams in the kitchen, dining room, and master bedroom. And a new coffered ceiling in the front entry contrasts beautifully with the custom wood shelving above the double-sided fireplace. Highlights in the lower level include a unique under-stairs custom wine & whiskey bar and a new home gym with a glass wall view into the main recreation area.

The challenge of designing a luxurious bath within the confines of an existing townhouse is to provide the amenities of contemporary living in space dictated by decisions made decades ago. We completely reconfigured a clumsy bath and closet area to create a wonderful, comfortable space. The low counter between the vanities resulted from an HOA requirement to not alter the exterior window arrangement of the house.

Housewright Construction had the pleasure of renovating this 1980's lake house in central NH. We stripped down the old tongue and grove pine, re-insulated, replaced all of the flooring, installed a custom stained wood ceiling, gutted the Kitchen and bathrooms and added a custom fireplace. Outside we installed new siding, replaced the windows, installed a new deck, screened in porch and farmers porch and outdoor shower. This lake house will be a family favorite for years to come!

Upper level Bathroom with transum above. The simple forms and common materials such as stone and plaster provided for the client’s budget and allowed for a living environment that included natural light that flood the home with brightness while maintaining privacy.

This couple is serious about cooking. The home was not old, but when they purchased it, they wanted to seriously upgrade the kitchen, convert a closet to a wine storage room and add a bedroom and bathroom to the unfinished upstairs area, and convert a deck to a screened porch. We complied on all fronts.

A traditional home need not be a boring one. A stone exterior and steep rooflines add to the impressive nature of the “Andover” design. Once inside, it quickly becomes obvious that nothing has been overlooked in this floor plan. The hearth room opens to the kitchen and turreted dining area. The grand master suite and a screened porch are also found on the main level. Upstairs are three additional bedrooms and two baths. The lower level offers outrageous entertainment, including a movie theatre, billiards, exercise equipment, and a sports court. A guest bedroom and bath can also be found on this level.
