Inspiration for a contemporary living room remodel in Los Angeles

The entrance to the new stair up to the couple's suite. Care was taken to make sure a king sized mattress could make that turn (I used the 3D model to verify a volume the size of a typical mattress would fit). The handrail is painted my favorite color—safety orange—and nicely compliments the wolf painting done by my mother-in-law. Sunlight from windows at the landing above fills the stairwell. At the landing the ceiling jumps up to 10' before stepping up again to align with the ceiling of the story above (about 16' above the first step after the landing).

I probably should have moved the stools and boots before I took the photo, but I didn't want to lose the moment. I love the simple composition of the window, door, and sconce on the tiny one story corner of the original house still visible from the backyard.
