Sunroom - eclectic sunroom idea in Minneapolis

This kitchen was in desperate need of a makeover. (see the original space at the end) There was a truly odd peninsula that blocked the cook from access to the refrigerator behind it. The span was only 33" which made working in the area almost impossible. The peninsula was also the weekly dining area, but did not function well. This makeovers is truly one of my favoirites as it shows what good design can do for a space!

We undertook a full house renovation of a historic stone mansion that serves as home to DC based diplomats. One of the most immediate challenges was addressing a particularly problematic bathroom located in a guest wing of the house. The miniscule bathroom had such steeply pitched ceilings that showering was nearly impossible and it was difficult to move around without risk of bumping your head. Our solution was to relocate the bathroom to an adjacent sitting room that had 8’ ceilings and was flooded with natural light. At twice the size of the old bathroom, the new location had ample space to create a true second master bathroom complete with soaking tub, walk-in shower and 5’ vanity. We used the same classic marble finishes throughout which provides continuity and maintains the elegant and timeless look befitting this historic mansion. The old bathroom was removed entirely and replaced with a cozy reading nook ready to welcome the most discerning of houseguests.

A black walnut dining table, suspended on a steel cantilever base, which is mounted directly into the cement floor. We'd like to thank Yumi Kagamihara, interior designer, who invited us to collaborate on this stunning home project. Slab Art Studios designed the walnut table top; the homeowner designed the base. We're delighted to see the final piece in its beautiful home setting. This black walnut slab holds a more organic statement than most. Unlike most dining-table slabs, we did not flatten it completely to accommodate traditional dining. Rather, we left some of the subtle curves and undulations garnered from three years of air- and kiln-drying. This home, built in 1920, is a quintessential Virginia Highland craftsman bungalow in intown Atlanta. The home underwent an extensive renovaton that included the addition of a screened porch and deck off the back, dormers on the second story in the front, and finishing out the basement level. Most interior spaces were updated including the kitchen, multiple bathrooms, a mudroom and laundry room.
