We transformed an unfinished basement hallway into a fully functional bathroom, providing the homeowner with a convenient restroom on the main living level. The project included plumbing installation, electrical work, framing, drywall, tile installation, recessed lighting, and a macerating pump system to accommodate the drainage line elevation.
We also built custom storage shelves in the hallway to maximize space and improve organization. The bathroom was constructed using the Schluter waterproofing system for long-term durability and moisture protection. The staircase was modified to improve comfort and accessibility.
This project significantly improved the functionality of the home while maintaining a traditional aesthetic that matches the homeowner’s style preferences.

Cal Comfort Insulating Windows, Inc. began in 1982 as a company that primarily focused on weatherizing homes and commercial buildings, windows being more of a problem than a solution. Cal Comfort Windows, Inc. specialized in conscientiously installing windows and doors. Insulating, weather-stripping and correcting structural flaws were the best way to improve energy efficiency and reduce power bills. We serve Modesto, Turlock, Stockton, and the surrounding area.

The homeowners envisioned a brighter, more open kitchen with improved flow, comfortable island seating, and finishes that would keep the space feeling light and timeless. The design solution focused on improving circulation while enhancing the kitchen’s clean, airy aesthetic. A reconfigured island created more comfortable walkway space between the refrigerator and island. The island was also redesigned to include seating for casual dining and conversation, turning it into a welcoming focal point. This renovation focused on improving flow, function, and safety for a growing family with a newborn, while also enhancing the home’s exterior presence.
Inside, interior walls were removed to open up the main living areas, creating better sightlines, improved natural light, and a more connected layout for everyday family life. The reconfigured space feels brighter, more spacious, and better suited to modern living.
Two bathrooms were renovated as part of the project:
A powder room was updated with clean, modern finishes and luxury vinyl flooring, chosen for its durability, comfort underfoot, and easy maintenance.
The main bathroom was refreshed to balance practicality with a refined, timeless look.
Special attention was given to the stairway, where upgrades were made with safety and comfort in mind—an important consideration for a household with a newborn. Improved finishes and details help make this high-traffic area both functional and visually cohesive with the rest of the home.
The project also included exterior improvements, enhancing curb appeal and tying the updated interior to a refreshed, cohesive exterior look.
Overall, this renovation blends thoughtful planning, durable materials, and family-friendly design to create a home that works beautifully now and well into the future.

Designing a luxury kitchen means tailoring the space to the people who use it every day. Because the homeowners are shorter in stature, ergonomics played an important role in the design process. While the perimeter countertops remained at standard height to accommodate appliances without the expense of custom-sized models, every opportunity was taken to improve comfort, accessibility, and workflow. The center island was intentionally designed 4 inches lower than the perimeter countertops, creating a more ergonomic work surface for food preparation, baking, and everyday kitchen tasks while enhancing the kitchen's custom character.
Material selection was equally thoughtful. The perimeter countertops feature natural soapstone, prized for its rich patina, soft matte finish, and timeless appearance that complements the home's historic Federal-style architecture. As a naturally nonporous stone, soapstone is highly resistant to bacteria and staining, making it an exceptionally durable and hygienic choice for a hardworking luxury kitchen. Over time, it develops a distinctive patina that enhances its authentic, vintage appeal.
The lowered center island is topped with a premium walnut butcher block, introducing warmth, texture, and natural beauty to the heart of the kitchen. The rich walnut surface provides an ideal workspace for chopping, rolling dough, and serving guests, while its lower height improves comfort and usability for the homeowners. Together, the soapstone perimeter and walnut butcher block island create a harmonious blend of historic authenticity, artisan craftsmanship, ergonomic design, and everyday functionality—demonstrating how personalized design solutions can elevate both the beauty and livability of a luxury kitchen.

In today’s world of smart interiors and luxury-inspired home décor, LED Mirror backlit designs have become a defining trend. From elegant bathrooms to sophisticated dressing areas and premium commercial spaces, LED Mirrors are now more than just reflective surfaces—they are statement pieces that combine technology, style, and functionality.
Whether you are renovating your home, upgrading a salon, designing a hotel, or creating a modern workspace, investing in a high-quality LED mirror can instantly elevate the atmosphere. The perfect balance of illumination and aesthetics makes these mirrors one of the most sought-after interior additions in contemporary architecture.
This blog explores everything you need to know about LED Mirror backlit solutions, their benefits, applications, features, and why they are becoming essential in modern living spaces.
What Is an LED Mirror Backlit Design?
An LED Mirror backlit system refers to a mirror equipped with LED lighting installed behind the mirror surface. Instead of visible front-facing bulbs, the light gently radiates from the rear edges, producing a soft halo effect around the mirror.
This indirect illumination creates a luxurious and ambient glow while providing practical lighting for everyday tasks such as grooming, makeup application, shaving, and skincare routines.
Unlike traditional mirrors, LED Mirrors offer:

This project significantly improved the functionality of the home while maintaining a traditional aesthetic that matches the homeowner’s style preferences.

The new owners of this house in Harvard, Massachusetts loved its location and authentic Shaker characteristics, but weren’t fans of its curious layout. A dated first-floor full bathroom could only be accessed by going up a few steps to a landing, opening the bathroom door and then going down the same number of steps to enter the room. The dark kitchen faced the driveway to the north, rather than the bucolic backyard fields to the south. The dining space felt more like an enlarged hall and could only comfortably seat four. Upstairs, a den/office had a woefully low ceiling; the master bedroom had limited storage, and a sad full bathroom featured a cramped shower.
KHS proposed a number of changes to create an updated home where the owners could enjoy cooking, entertaining, and being connected to the outdoors from the first-floor living spaces, while also experiencing more inviting and more functional private spaces upstairs.
On the first floor, the primary change was to capture space that had been part of an upper-level screen porch and convert it to interior space. To make the interior expansion seamless, we raised the floor of the area that had been the upper-level porch, so it aligns with the main living level, and made sure there would be no soffits in the planes of the walls we removed. We also raised the floor of the remaining lower-level porch to reduce the number of steps required to circulate from it to the newly expanded interior. New patio door systems now fill the arched openings that used to be infilled with screen. The exterior interventions (which also included some new casement windows in the dining area) were designed to be subtle, while affording significant improvements on the interior. Additionally, the first-floor bathroom was reconfigured, shifting one of its walls to widen the dining space, and moving the entrance to the bathroom from the stair landing to the kitchen instead.
These changes (which involved significant structural interventions) resulted in a much more open space to accommodate a new kitchen with a view of the lush backyard and a new dining space defined by a new built-in banquette that comfortably seats six, and -- with the addition of a table extension -- up to eight people.
Upstairs in the den/office, replacing the low, board ceiling with a raised, plaster, tray ceiling that springs from above the original board-finish walls – newly painted a light color -- created a much more inviting, bright, and expansive space. Re-configuring the master bath to accommodate a larger shower and adding built-in storage cabinets in the master bedroom improved comfort and function. A new whole-house color palette rounds out the improvements.
