This Electronic Lifestyle facility has quickly become a savvy social and entertaining environment; set up to demonstrate just a few things one can do in their home or office to enhance their quality of life through the use of technology. Guests are dazzled by a plethora of custom electronic selections, incorporated into the latest technology in a cozy, yet high-end residential-style environment. The entire space is home to dozens of custom paintings by local artists and master-crafted wood works and built in cabinetry. The reception area is complimented with a 55” custom designed Art Screen TV with retractable art that rolls up into a motorized casing to reveal a 4K TV screen. The additional spaces show beautifully, with a modern family room, a sophisticated entertainment lounge, and fully functional, stocked wet bar. An acoustically treated 2-Channel listening room houses the finest in McIntosh audio equipment complete with a turntable. This room was designed for vinyl record or streaming music for ‘audiophile enthusiasts.’ The DeVance 18 seat movie theater boasts a state-of-the-art perforated ten foot screen, JBL Synthesis 7.1 surround sound system and crystal clear Runco projection system. Set in a quiet neighborhood and framed by mature trees, this residence presented a unique opportunity: to thoughtfully evolve a custom mid-century modern home into a space that supports the everyday rhythms of a growing family. With a deep respect for the home’s original architecture, Klopf Architecture reimagined the house to better meet the needs of its owners—introducing functional improvements while preserving the spirit and character of its mid-century roots. The clients approached Klopf Architecture with a clear vision: refresh their home while seamlessly integrating new programmatic elements. Key goals included clarifying and enhancing the entry sequence; connecting the detached garage to the main house with a practical yet architecturally intentional intervention; adding functional spaces such as a mudroom and laundry room; expanding and remodeling the primary suite’s bathroom and closet; and creating a more engaging outdoor space that capitalized on the site’s impressive views, featuring a fire pit and outdoor kitchen. As a couple with distinct yet complementary perspectives—one focused on modern functionality and technology, and the other dedicated to preserving the home’s architectural integrity—their collaboration with Klopf Architecture resulted in a solution that harmonized both ideals. Their shared commitment to improving the livability of their home led to a design dialogue rooted in balance. Designing within the constraints of the sloped site posed one of the project’s central challenges. The detached garage sat at a higher elevation than the main house, requiring a solution that ensured architectural and geometric compatibility between the two structures. Rather than create a purely utilitarian link, Klopf Architecture introduced an intentional connection that contributes to the overall architectural language. A notable pinch point in the plan—where differing geometries converged—was treated as a hinge point, turning a potentially awkward juncture into an architectural feature. This area now functions as both a transition and a moment of design interest that unifies the overall plan. The design also addressed the underutilized outdoor area, which was located in a shadowed portion of the site with geometrical limitations. A new connection to the rear deck was created in this same area, making the outdoor space more useful and inviting. Klopf Architecture introduced carefully positioned openings and spatial improvements that forged a strong visual and functional connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The outdoor area now reads as a deliberate extension of the home, embracing natural light and emphasizing the dramatic views. Working through multiple design iterations, Klopf Architecture crafted a solution that preserved the architectural language of the original home while supporting the functional needs of modern life. The garage-to-house connection became more than a passage—it evolved into an architectural moment of transition. A new mudroom and laundry space enhanced convenience without compromising the clean lines of the design. The primary suite was expanded to create a private, serene retreat. The reimagined backyard, complete with fire pit and kitchen, now plays a vital role in the family’s daily routine and social life. Outcomes and Lasting Impact The result is a home that balances heritage with contemporary design, technical precision with design sensibility. The redesign not only met the clients’ initial goals but also exceeded expectations in its ability to seamlessly blend past and present, function and beauty, making the outdoor kitchen a favorite gathering place. Charles and Henry Greene are widely considered to have brought high-art aesthetics and exquisite craftsmanship to the American Arts and Crafts Movement in the early part of the 20th century. Their work continues to be exhibited worldwide and is included in decorative arts collections in museums in the United States and throughout Europe. Greene & Greene designs strongly influenced California’s architectural heritage, their work has had international significance as well by inspiring countless architects and designers around the world through a legacy of extant structures, scholarly books, and articles. They were recognized by the American Institute of Architects in 1952 for contributing to a “new and native architecture” and are generally credited with fostering a new way of considering buildings and their furnishings as examples of artistic craft.

The client wanted a kitchen that created a warm and cozy feeling where family and friends would feel right at home. She sought a kitchen that was of the highest quality cabinetry and a designer that would really listen to her needs and wants. The Pewter glaze overtones on the cherry wood tie in with the distressed gray island; the Silestone Quartz Soapstone around the perimeter provides a neutral background, while the island has a more dramatic polished granite with cream, rose and brown tones to become a beautiful centerpiece. The cabinets are heavily detailed with beaded sides and backs, inset doors, chamfered corners wherever possible, toe valances and applied mouldings around the entire base to add a rich, handcrafted look. The heights of the cabinets vary to reduce uniformity, adding to the casual charm. An apron front sink also contributes to the country look. The desk is particularly fanciful with it’s mullion doors, French Country open shelves with beaded sides and back, curved and beaded valance and drawer with multiple drawerheads / applied molding. We also incorporated doors that come all the way to the counter to hide the usual home office clutter. The lower part of the desk includes many drawers of various sizes and even a special locking file drawer. The beautiful dark gray island boasts French Country open shelves with arched and beaded valances, a fluting detail on each corner of the cookbook shelves, toe details, lots of beadboard, and a variety of storage options for cooking utensils, pans, and serving dishes. We are Dexign Matter, an award-winning studio sought after for crafting multi-layered interiors that we expertly curated to fulfill individual design needs. Design Director Zoe Lee’s passion for customization is evident in this city residence where she melds the elevated experience of luxury hotels with a soft and inviting atmosphere that feels welcoming. Lee’s panache for artful contrasts pairs the richness of strong materials, such as oak and porcelain, with the sophistication of contemporary silhouettes. “The goal was to create a sense of indulgence and comfort, making every moment spent in the homea truly memorable one,” says Lee. By enlivening a once-predominantly white colour scheme with muted hues and tactile textures, Lee was able to impart a characterful countenance that still feels comfortable. She relied on subtle details to ensure this is a residence infused with softness. “The carefully placed and concealed LED light strips throughout create a gentle and ambient illumination,” says Lee. “They conjure a warm ambiance, while adding a touch of modernity.” Further finishes include a Shaker feature wall in the living room. It extends seamlessly to the room’s double-height ceiling, adding an element of continuity and establishing a connection with the primary ensuite’s wood panelling. “This integration of design elements creates a cohesive and visually appealing atmosphere,” Lee says. The ensuite’s dramatically veined marble-look is carried from the walls to the countertop and even the cabinet doors. “This consistent finish serves as another unifying element, transforming the individual components into a captivating feature wall. It adds an elegant touch to the overall aesthetic of the space.” Pops of black hardware throughout channel that elegance and feel welcoming. Lee says, “The furnishings’ unique characteristics and visual appeal contribute to a sense of continuous luxury – it is now a home that is both bespoke and wonderfully beckoning.”

The kitchen island leads into the family room, where glowing floral lighting call to the gardens outside. Nature inspired artwork by Kaoru Mansour and Joyce Gehl hang on the walls, creating another conversation with the plant life outside.A Calacata Avorio marble island offers a large surface to prepare food, or enjoy breakfast while admiring exterior views. Stacks of produce are at the ready for convenient snacking, with vegan cookbooks close at hand in preparation for larger meals. A custom niche was designed to display a pottery collection, and offers another space for plant life to grow. Golden hues in the marble add warmth. Wooden bar stools neatly tuck into the island, perfect for socializing and conversation while preparing meals. The kitchen was made with natural materials to inspire peace, and encourage a connection between the environment when considering the food being prepared. A custom knife drawer as part of cabinetry made in collaboration with a local artisan, conveniently located near the oven for easy preparation. FSC certified no VOC apple ply was used for the cabinetry. Custom silverware drawers give ample space for a variety of flatware. Fresh fruit available for healthy snacking doubles as colorful decor. Artwork by Karen Sikie provides a permanent bouquet when flowers begin to wilt. The pantry, featuring a large concealed fridge to match the cabinetry. On the left, two freezer drawers sit below the counter, with additional storage for dried goods and spices. Custom cabinets made in collaboration with a local craftsperson are painted in a warm grey to bring out the dove tones in the marble. The counter tops were specified to reach the clients ideal height for food preparation. The kitchen is designed for ease of use and calm, creating a mindful experience for cooking.

This remodeled kitchen features a modern and spacious design with high-quality materials and sleek finishes. The backsplash behind the stove area is a unique textured design in a light gray pattern, adding a contemporary touch to the space. The central area of the kitchen is well-lit, thanks to recessed ceiling lights and a large window above the sink, which allows natural light to pour in. A modern pendant light fixture hangs above the countertop, illuminating the surrounding area and contributing to the elegant atmosphere. The kitchen’s open layout ensures smooth traffic flow and makes it easy to transition between cooking, dining, and entertaining. The overall aesthetic is both functional and inviting, making it a perfect place for family gatherings and culinary activities.

Portabella stained bamboo base cabinets and island with crystal white wall cabinets provide the backdrop for this modern kitchen. The slab doors, floating shelves and square lines contribute to the minimalist design. A geometric pattern backsplash adds depth to the space while solid white quartz countertops pulls the look together. Finishing touches include a custom range hood with a brushed nickel skirt and brushed nickel hardware.

Phil and Rocio, little did you know how perfect your timing was when you came to us and asked for a “small but perfect home”. Fertile ground indeed as we thought about working on something like a precious gem, or what we’re calling a NEW Jewel. So many of our clients now are building smaller homes because they simply don’t need a bigger one. Seems smart for many reasons: less vacuuming, less heating and cooling, less taxes. And for many, less strain on the finances as we get to the point where retirement shines bright and hopeful. For the jewel of a home we wanted to start with 1,000 square feet. Enough room for a pleasant common area, a couple of away rooms for bed and work, a couple of bathrooms and yes to a mudroom and pantry. (For Phil and Rocio’s, we ended up with 1,140 square feet.) The Jewel would not compromise on design intent, envelope or craft intensity. This is the big benefit of the smaller footprint, of course. By using a pure and simple form for the house volume, a true jewel would have enough money in the budget for the highest quality materials, net-zero levels of insulation, triple pane windows, and a high-efficiency heat pump. Additionally, the doors would be handcrafted, the cabinets solid wood, the finishes exquisite, and craftsmanship shudderingly excellent. For our full gut renovation of this Manhattan loft penthouse, we partnered with architecture firm Todd Zwigard Architects. Many of our clients know us as experts in the full design-build approach, where we handle every aspect of the project. But in this case, architectural plans were already drawn, the full schedule was finished, and our clients needed a partner to execute on the architectural plans – enter Gallery. Construction management is as vital to a project as the design phase, so we’re happy to offer our expertise in this type of scenario. A DIFFERENT APPROACH Construction and design are often the face of most renovations, but the planning and follow-through are naturally just as necessary to make it all come together. The project itself was a fairly straightforward gut renovation of the loft. Everything was included: new floors, a new kitchen, new bathrooms, new lighting. Our task was to manage every aspect of the construction, ensuring that the planning work of Todd Zwigard Architects was executed to the exact vision imagined for this Manhattan loft renovation. CONTEMPORARY GOES ECLECTIC Although we didn’t contribute to the aesthetic of the interior design in this project, we did carry out the plans that brought it life. The tone was very modern, with some eclectic touches. The kitchen, featuring an island with a baby blue lacquered finish, blends contemporary clean lines into an industrial-tinged, almost futuristic aesthetic. Reclaimed wooden doors and art pieces collected throughout the years are an ode to the client's travels, an artistic touch from Todd Zwigard Architects. LET’S TALK Quality of work is of course important, but there are several components of construction management that are equally vital: communication; processes that make sure you're able to adhere to schedules; protocols with both safety and communication. You might say this is the nerding out of the construction process. It’s not often the face of a project, but it’s absolutely massive in terms of carrying out a successful renovation, whether it’s a penthouse loft in Manhattan, a condo in Prospect Heights, or a kitchen in a Brooklyn brownstone. Quality construction management is probably one of the biggest ways to separate professional contractors from those who aren’t. ART FROM CHAOS This was such a large project, so our ability to procure and source all the finishes and fixtures was hugely important to our clients. The sheer number of floors, tiles, and plumbing fixtures alone that need to be ordered, in addition to everything else, plus figuring out lead times, shipments, deliveries, and inspections. It can quickly become chaotic, but there’s an art to the planning and organization, and we’ve mastered it. The larger a project is, the more likely that havoc will rear its head. The antidote is not only really proper planning and construction management, as we achieved in this Manhattan loft penthouse renovation, but also a great working relationship with everyone else involved in the project: contractors, architect, and clients alike. When these Canton, MA homeowners desired to upgrade their childrens’ bathroom, they were referred to Renovisions who were grateful to accept the task. The clients were unhappy with the existing cramped floor plan, lack of storage, old and drafty windows, outdated fixtures and overall lackluster aesthetic. Renovisions designed the new room to not only meet the client’s goals, but exceeded them abundantly. Mobility in the space was limited due to the door swing into the room. Renovisions recommended replacing the currenmt door with a pocket door in an arch-top beaded design to match the nearby bedroom doors, while also upgrading the hallway linen closet with new shelving and same styled door. Renovisions also increased the layout by borrowing space from the adjacent dining room. There is now more room for the handsome, quartered-mahogany wall-hung vanity with linen tower. Since the homeowners requested a contemporary look, the design team focused on choosing more modern products including a soaking tub, minimalistic square designed shower heads, tub filler, single lever faucet and a large rectangular sink. The white quartz countertop with wide veining and waterfall edge, along with the striking larger format subway tile finished with square edge chrome profiles contribute to the clean aethetic and modern appeal. From the sleek porcelain plank floor tile, new double-mulled Marvin casement windows and recessed lighting that provides just the right amount of light, the end result: a one-of-a-kind bathroom, a unique and modern ‘Revitalized Room’.

A moss garden is more than a design choice—it’s an invitation to slow down, observe closely, and appreciate nature’s quiet elegance.

Completed in partnership with LAM Studios Inc., this Fall 2024 renovation transformed multiple areas of a Dilworth home into a cohesive, functional, and beautifully updated living environment. The project included a complete kitchen remodel, living room renovation, bathroom remodel, laundry room update, dining room renovation, fireplace enhancement, and hallway improvements. The kitchen serves as the centerpiece of the renovation, featuring improved functionality, modern finishes, and a layout designed to support everyday living and entertaining. Adjacent living and dining spaces were thoughtfully redesigned to create a seamless flow throughout the home, while the updated fireplace provides a warm and inviting focal point. Additional improvements to the bathroom, laundry room, and hallway enhanced both comfort and efficiency, ensuring every space contributes to the home's overall functionality and style. Through careful planning, quality craftsmanship, and timeless design choices, this renovation successfully blends modern living with lasting elegance. The result is a beautifully refreshed home that feels brighter, more connected, and perfectly tailored to the homeowners' lifestyle.

Time had stood still at this 1970s ranch in Armonk when the owners invited us to collaborate with them to transform it into a modern, light-filled home for their young family. The budget was lean, so economy was a primary consideration for every design decision. The challenge was to identify the modest home’s virtues – vaulted ceilings and a lovely backyard – and accentuate them by strategically optimizing available funds. We were tasked with rectifying a dysfunctional interior stair, connecting to the outdoors with new large windows, and updating the exterior. We focused our attention on a finite set of architectural moves which would have the biggest impact and improve our clients’ daily experience of the home. Detailing was kept simple, using common grade materials and standard components. All exterior walls were revamped with new windows and siding. Although these materials were not particularly costly, thoughtful layout of boards, battens, and openings produced a cohesive, rigorous composition at each facade. Since the budget would not cover the homeowners’ complete wish list, some items were bracketed for subsequent phases. The challenge was to establish a framework that would allow future work – including a new roof and kitchen renovation – to proceed smoothly. The homeowners, both scientists, were enthusiastic collaborators, contributing their outstanding design sensibilities to selection of fixtures and finishes. Construction ended just in time for the arrival of their baby – and with that, the transformation of their family home was complete.
