Dark outside and fiery inside, its glow appears amplified and surreal like a gold nugget amongst the rock.

This Creative Pool and Patio project included hardscaping, lighting and planting around pool area. The Patio, seating, and retaining walls were all constructed with Techo-bloc products. For the patio around the pool we used Blu 60 pavers, and the various steps were installed using Rocka steps. Retaining walls were constructed using the Mini-Creta Architectural wall block. We then installed a 1″ sand setting bed and reinstalled the existing brick pavers. The new installation also included drainage pipe and catches to allow water to escape the patio and drain beyond the foot print of the patio, house and shed.
Also included were removal the existing upper flagstone patio and walking path, leveling the path and lay larger pieces of flagstone in the upper patio. We will also install proper joint material between the flagstone for a more uniform walking surface. We also used the existing flagstone to make small garden paths in place of the brick paths.
Lastly, included was grading a small swale in the back lawn to divert water around to the sides of the house and away from the rear patio area.
A drainage system along the right side of the shed to collect ground water as well as downspouts along that side of the shed and carport and move the water to the street through 4″ solid drainage pipes was also installed.

Old-World Charm in Alabama
Private Residence / Mountain Brook, Alabama
Architect: Jeffrey Dungan
Builder: Bradford Residential Building Company
E. F. San Juan created and supplied stair parts, exterior beams, brackets, rafters, paneling, and exterior moulding for this residence in the charming community of Mountain Brook, Alabama.
Challenges:
The most significant challenge on this project was the curved stair system just inside the main entrance. Its unique starting newel also served as a lamppost that bathes the foyer in a warm, welcoming light. Each piece of millwork supplied for this stunning residence needed to reflect the Old English village–inspired town while upholding modern standards of excellence.
Solution:
We worked with our stair parts partner, Oak Pointe, to build the white oak newel components for the main stairway, then we customized them further by hand at the E. F. San Juan plant. The details include a Gothic relief and the tapered radius section of the newel’s upper half. The result is truly beautiful and serves as the focal point of this old-world stair system. Evoking a feeling of historic charm, the millwork throughout this residence adds those characterizing elements that make all the difference in custom luxury homes.

Tired of doing laundry in an unfinished rugged basement? These homeowner's were as well! They contacted Castle to help them with their basement planning and build for a finished laundry space and new bathroom with shower.
After the designer and client walked through ideas to improve flow of space, we decided to eliminate the existing 1/2 bath in the family room, and move the new bathroom into the existing laundry room. The full laundry room was finished to include new walls, ceilings, new plumbing, new Adura luxury vinyl tile flooring, beautiful shaker style cabinetry with beadboard panel, Glossy white Cultured marble countertops, a new Blanco composite sink, and Kohler Bellera faucet.
In the new bathroom space, we continued the Adura luxury vinyl flooring. Finishes in the bathroom include Kohler Memoirs pedestal sink, Kohler Archer faucet, custom hex tile shower floor, subway tile walls, and custom frameless glass shower enclosure.
Additional improvements were made to improve the health of the home including asbestos tile abatement, new drain tile and sump pump, new spray foam insulation, new glass block window, and a new Panasonic bathroom fan. We also decided to save and restore some original pieces in the home like their existing 5-panel doors and repurposing one salvaged door into a pocket door for the new bathroom.
The homeowner completed the basement finish with new carpeting in the family room. The whole basement feels fresh, new, and has a great flow. They will enjoy their happy and healthy home for years to come.

This Landscape buffer project included installation of a large buffer planting on an existing bank. The plating includes various trees, shrubs, landscape boulders and mulch as designed by Howard J. Supnik Landscape Architect. Once installation was complete we fine graded and seeded some disturbed areas as well as installed sod. This was another phase of an over larger landscape project. previous phases included an outdoor kitchen, fire pit, sitting walls, natural stone patio, hot tub, wood box, lighting and planting.

A Modern Penthouse on Choctawhatchee Bay
Private Residence / Destin, Florida
Builder: Ron Porter, Regal Stephens Construction
The team at E. F. San Juan worked closely with the homeowner and builder on this bayside penthouse condo to create custom walnut wall paneling, trim, baseboards, and casing, plus twelve-foot hidden doors to match.
Challenges:
The greatest challenge on this project was that the design was very contemporary and had been entirely envisioned by the homeowner. We met the challenge with great enthusiasm by working with the homeowner and the builder (Ron Porter of Regal Stephens Construction) to bring their vision to reality. Ron was an enthusiastic participant in the project, giving us free rein to design and engineer a solution that would provide the look the homeowner desired.
Solution:
To achieve a component of the contemporary look the homeowner sought—inconspicuous trim—we ground custom moulding knives exclusive for this project’s baseboard and casing. The baseboard throughout the residence was designed to be discreet and also includes recessed lighting. The walnut bump-outs on the wall surrounding the fireplace were a great challenge, as were the highly figured, flush walnut doors flanking the fireplace. When open, these twelve-foot-tall doors are hidden and look like paneled sections that blend into a recess in the wall; when closed, the doors also blend seamlessly with the flanking walnut wall. This creates a long, continuous wall of walnut wood when viewed from the kitchen area. E. F. San Juan also created custom leather-covered barn doors between the dining room and the living room.
We thoroughly enjoyed working on this project. The homeowner knew exactly what she wanted from a design perspective, and the builder was an encouraging partner throughout the process. The result is a unique and beautiful reflection of a memorable collaborative endeavor.

A&E Construction. This Pennington NJ kitchen is a more traditional kitchen remodel that provides ample counter space for both food preparation and entertaining. The rich materials of this room-- including swirling quartz countertops, exposed brick, light hardwood floors, and exposed ceiling beams stained a deep amber-- give this kitchen its warmth.
