It is the first lake in a five-lake series called the Tallulah River Watershed that follows the original course of the Tallulah River. The series of lakes starts with Lake Burton as the northernmost lake followed by Lake Seed, Lake Rabun, Lake Tallulah Falls and the eastern arm of Lake Tugalo (the western arm is formed by the Chattooga River. The lakes are owned and operated by the Georgia Power Company to generate hydroelectric energy for Georgia's largest city, Atlanta. At one time these lakes were the largest producers of electricity in the state of Georgia. Now, they only provide peak power supply. The lake was built in a deep valley located along a 10 mile section of the Tallulah River. The Lake Burton Dam was closed on December 22, 1919 and the lake started to fill. This tiny retro kitchen was both cut off from the living and dining spaces and had virtually no counter space to speak of. With the birth of the owners first child the need for a functional family kitchen became of utmost importance. Several issues had to be considered including leaving the existing back door and basement access, opening the kitchen to the main living spaces and creating a larger feeling kitchen. In order to serve these needs and stretch the budget we came up with the smallest addition possible by adding 32 sf. This small addition made a huge impact on the functionality of the kitchen by providing ample storage, an island and plenty of counter space. When this homeowner remodeled and added onto their existing home, they moved in with mom. It was a project that took several months. Lots of decision to make and so many options. With small children in the home, they specifically wanted virtually maintenance-free countertops. But what product and what design. Learning that Cambria was made in their home state of Minnesota, the product decision was easy. Not able to zero in on just one design for their whole home, they opted to use several designs beginning with Cambria Galloway quartz on the combination kitchen island that include wood and quartz; accented by Cambria Canongate on the perimeter cabinets. DCS Industries installed two sets of 30-foot security fencing to enclose the perimeter of the property and prevent unauthorized entry. Composed of powerful, black wrought iron, the fencing has an intimidating appearance that is sure to deter intruders. However, if anyone did try to make a forbidden entry onto the property, they would find the security fencing virtually impossible to breach. The gaps between the fence’s pickets are narrow, prohibiting intruders from slipping between them, and the wrought iron is strong and unyielding. Wrought iron is always an excellent choice for security fencing because it is naturally durable and difficult to climb. The fencing also includes pickets that are curved at the top, contributing to the formidable appearance and adding an extra layer of protection against anyone who might try to scale the fence.

This kitchen included an odd-sized double-oven with shattered glass and appliance interference, wasted soffit space, inadequate lighting, and more. The client also faced issues with the laundry closet, storage, and countertops. We addressed these concerns by adjusting the layout. Featured changes include an integrated micro-convection double-oven, a counter-depth refrigerator, the removal of soffits, an expanded cabinetry footprint, a built-in laundry, relocating the electrical panel, and adding solid-surface countertops. Design elements include cabinet-mounted remote switches, a built-in wine refrigerator, two-tone cabinetry, all LED lighting, a pull-down swivel faucet, fully functional storage, and virtually seamless countertops. These changes addressed all of the clients’ pain points and improved the kitchen’s functionality, efficiency, and aesthetic.
