Christmas holiday design for an amazing animal conservation ranch in Texas. Our goal was to deliver a holiday scheme indicative of rustic Texas. For year 2012 our look was to design with a color palette of forest green, rust, brown, cream and gold pulling from the use of natural elements, often found on the ranch, such as pheasant and ostrich feathers, deer sheds, lichen covered branches, beautiful vintage fowl and small critter taxidermy, massive pine comes, silver birch branches etc.. mixed with vintage wood skis, copper bladed ice skates, rustic lanterns, etc..

The designer will choose the light function, intensity, and the quality of the light. The amount of light produced is measured in Lux, which is the measurement of the intensity of light cast on a given surface. And Lumens, which is the unit of measurement of luminous flux used to indicate the quantity or intensity of any lamp.

This project is here to show us all how amazing a galley kitchen can be. Art de Vivre translates to "the art of living", the knowledge of how to enjoy life. This kitchen has a very "classic vintage" feel, from warm wood countertops and brass latches to the beautiful blooming wallpaper and blue cabinetry in the butler pantry. The bones of this 1908 Glen Park home had been compromised by years and years of awkward remodels. The front door led directly to the private bedroom level, while the public gathering spaces were one-level down, with the main staircase nearly dropping you into the existing kitchen. Potentially spectacular views of an existing mature redwood tree and broad city views beyond were entirely ignored and inaccessible. We first unraveled the knot of the plan with a new split-level entryway and connecting stair. We then opened up the rear of the home to the views, using the huge backyard conifer as design inspiration for a perforated steel guardrail connecting the new interior and exterior space seamlessly. A lower expansion connects the home to the yard and alleyway garage entry. The Pinales House is indicative of the scale of remodel many young families can consider; a scale at which strategic design choices are key to discovering the unrealized potential of the home and site.

Within the confines of a strict budget, we assisted a South Austin client who desired an updated kitchen and dining area as well as a new private master bedroom with ensuite and laundry / mudroom area. The existing ranch style home was transformed with only a modest addition but a clever reorganization of space. Existing space was reorganized into a new laundry area at the rear of the house a sink and stack washer and dryer. The transition of flooring in the hallway from wood to concrete indicate the location of the ensuite addition at the back of the house.

This is a serene outdoor patio area with a modern design and clean lines. The main feature is a built-in fireplace with a rectangular opening, surrounded by white stone or marble cladding. The fire is lit, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Around the fireplace, there is a sunken seating area with built-in benches featuring warm accent lighting underneath. The patio floor is covered with large, neutral-toned tiles, giving a sleek look. Potted and in-ground cacti, along with other low-maintenance plants, add greenery and a bit of a desert-like vibe to the space. The fencing provides an open view of the neighborhood in the background, and the sky has soft pink and purple tones, indicating dusk or dawn, adding to the peaceful ambiance.

A good way to assess the condition of a log home finish is to wait for the building to dry after being washed. Once dry you must understand what type of log home stain is on your building. If you have an oil based log home stain you should be looking at the knots and checks on the walls. These areas will turn blonde when the finish is wearing off and this indicates that you should apply one to two maintenance coats of stain. Some oil based stains now offer a clear maintenance coat and this is the better route to take but it only works if the stain is not worn to bare wood.
