The goal of this project was to provide a lush and vast garden for the new owners of this recently remodeled brick Georgian. Located in Wheaton this acre plus property is surrounded by beautiful Oaks. Preserving the Oaks became a particular challenge with the ample front walk and generous entertaining spaces the client desired. Under most of the Oaks the turf was in very poor condition, and most of the property was covered with undesirable overgrown underbrush such as Garlic Mustard weed and Buckthorn. With a recently completed addition, the garages were pushed farther from the front door leaving a large distance between the drive and entry to the home. This prompted the addition of a secondary door off the kitchen. A meandering walk curves past the secondary entry and leads guests through the front garden to the main entry. Off the secondary door a “kitchen patio” complete with a custom gate and Green Mountain Boxwood hedge give the clients a quaint space to enjoy a morning cup of joe. Stepping stone pathways lead around the home and weave through multiple pocket gardens within the vast backyard. The paths extend deep into the property leading to individual and unique gardens with a variety of plantings that are tied together with rustic stonewalls and sinuous turf areas. Closer to the home a large paver patio opens up to the backyard gardens. New stoops were constructed and existing stoops were covered in bluestone and mortared stonewalls were added, complimenting the classic Georgian architecture. The completed project accomplished all the goals of creating a lush and vast garden that fit the remodeled home and lifestyle of its new owners. Through careful planning, all mature Oaks were preserved, undesirables removed and numerous new plantings along with detailed stonework helped to define the new landscape.

A beautifully shaped top and splayed, tapered legs give the Ventura extension table mid-century appeal. This table includes a built-in leaf so you can easily seat two additional guests. Simply pull the table from both ends to reveal the leaf. Then push down on the built-in leaf and watch it smoothly unfold into place.

Two design elements that contribute to the deck’s distinctive finished appearance are picture framing and parting boards. You see the art of picture framing where we used darker contrasting boards to frame the pool and its concrete shoulder. We inserted parting boards where two sections of the deck meet with boards running diagonally in different directions. Diagonals running in different directions and set off with parting boards are visual markers indicating sections of the deck that can be used as individual rooms.

Architecturally inspired, the Axis collection gives a nod to its Mid-century Modern and Art Deco design roots. Using elements indicative of the era, it contains a gathering of linear shapes and complementing curved silhouettes all working together to create a timely, yet timeless style. This geometrically satisfying collection appeals to the inner architect and designer using stylized decorative elements and unique materials and finishes that are sure to bring a sense of sophistication to any home.

When designing this kitchen update and addition, Phase One had to keep function and style top of mind, all the time. Christmas holiday design for an amazing animal conservation ranch in Texas. Our goal was to deliver a holiday scheme indicative of rustic Texas. For year 2012 our look was to design with a color palette of forest green, rust, brown, cream and gold pulling from the use of natural elements, often found on the ranch, such as pheasant and ostrich feathers, deer sheds, lichen covered branches, beautiful vintage fowl and small critter taxidermy, massive pine comes, silver birch branches, natural nests, etc.. mixed with vintage wood skis, copper bladed ice skates, rustic lanterns, etc.. mixed with burlap ribbon, beads, burnished gold glass ornaments, magnolias, etc..
