It's time for the pump truck to swing it's long boom arm over, filling the forms with concrete, thus creating the poured wall. *Details include centering the rebar in the between the form boards and spacers to make sure its set perfectly, including a string to indicate to top of the pour. Located in the Houston Heights, the Waverly Residence is a modern home on an established street of two story homes boasting front porch typologies. The family’s desire for privacy resulted in a porch that rotates to internalize most of its function while still addressing the street. For this active family, yard activity and it’s visibility from within the home emerged as a priority for approaching the building’s relationship to the lot. Justifying the building mass to the Northern half of the site reinforces the scale of the design to the surrounding buildings and creates a large southern yard dedicated to play and brisket (is a Texas house a house without a barbeque?). The ground floor is clad in metal panel and a wood rainscreen that peels away from the structure to become both a fence and an entry threshold, blending the registration between the yard's privacy enclosure and the building skin. Variable width fiber-cement siding clads the second floor as a nod to the neighborhood vernacular. The pool and outdoor kitchen sit at the center of the yard, forming an island that divides the open play from private vehicular access at the alley. Shifted volumes delineate private space from the open public areas. The second floor extends over the public entryway to create a covered procession with cascading steps into the southern yard that traverses the length of the living spaces. The public program expands beyond the building enclosure to encompass the yard and living spaces. A horizontal shift in the ground floor volume produces both a private courtyard away from the lively public spaces and exterior delineation between private vehicular access and public entry. Within the open, ground floor plan, a change in elevation indicates the boundary between private and public space. Custom millwork provides ample storage for the young family. Playful patterns of enclosed storage with contrasting display boxes creates a cohesive millwork language throughout the home.

For this job, I paid a visit to the bustling town of Windermere in South Cumbria. My client asked me to refinish a black and white Terrazzo tiled entrance and hallway floor. Terrazzo if you’re not familiar is a very interesting and beautiful stone of Italian origin, which has been used for flooring in houses for centuries. We had previously quoted to do the work on this floor however the customer has also received a quote from another firm in Glasgow and had chosen to go with them solely because they were more expensive. However, it stands to reason that the most expensive companies are not always the best quality and Tile Doctor prides itself on the amount of customer feedback we display on our websites which we believe is a far better indicator. On the arranged day no one from the Glasgow firm showed up and after following up with the firm a young man in his early 20s arrived five hours late and began work on the floor. According to the customer he spent three days attempting to complete the job, but ran out of time and asked the client to apply the sealer themselves. The client applied the sealer, but as she had never done it before the floor turned out blotchy in appearance and she was far from happy. To cut a long story short, my client complained to the Glaswegian company, after all she had paid for a full service and not received it. Unable to get a satisfactory conclusion from them she decided to call in Tile Doctor to put the matter right. I must point out that although I have included before and after photos one this post it’s really difficult to appreciate the extent of the problem without seeing the floor in real life. To resolve the sealer, and to provide my client with the polished finish she had originally wanted, I burnished the floor using a set of four Tile Doctor Diamond encrusted burnishing pads. Each of the four pads has a different grit: I first applied the coarse pad and worked my way through medium, fine and eventually very fine using a little water to lubricate and rinsing the floor between each pad to remove any residue; after the burnishing process was complete I gave the entire floor a final, thorough wash. I then used a wet-vac machine to extract the water and get the floor as dry as possible before leaving for the day and allowing it to fully dry completely overnight, it’s very important that the floor is as moisture free as possible before being sealed as it can affect the final result. The next day I returned to the house and sealed the floor with two coats of Tile Doctor Colour Grow, an impregnating, colour-enhancing sealer that really accentuates the look of the black and white tiles. "Transitional" -- what exactly does this term mean? Especially, when describing interior design. Transitional style design, usually means that you have characteristics of both modern and traditional in your space. You kind of fall in that even middle ground between both styles. For this dining room, our client was just that. However, she wasn't aware of it. She was trying to pair multiple traditional elements together, but it left her feeling unhappy. The space was feeling dark, filled with heavy furniture and nothing was popping or even uplifting. She knew she liked to mix patterns and textures, but was also unsure of how to achieve that. As I looked around her home, I realized that their art collection definitely leaned more on the modern and colorful side of the spectrum. This was a big indicator to me, she wasn't fully traditional at all, she was more transitional! That was my que, and we got to work and this is the result. Native House Photography

This previously unnoticed half-bath/laundry room is now a stunner thanks to the Renovisions team. The overall idea was to create enough storage and organization for this busy household yet be beautifully distinctive for guests who use this space. This plan included a stackable washer and dryer center with shelf, clothes rod and pull-down drying rack which was a creative space saving solution to maximize use of the laundry closet. Renovisions re-used the existing entry door and built-out a pocket which not only makes the space feel larger and less cluttered but is easier to enter and exit. When the Renovision was completed and turned over to our client, she was absolutely thrilled with the results as indicated by her comment below. Gorgeous light blue/grey marble basket weave floor tile is a perfect match for the dark blue/grey painted finish of the furniture piece vanity with slotted shelf for towels and accessories. The sconce light fixtures in chrome finish adds a little sparkle to this clean and classy look. Beautiful marble-look quartz countertops tie in nicely and played a part in transforming this ordinary powder room into a high-functioning, beautiful part of the home that is comfortable, livable and well appointed.

Here are the ceiling beams with the weathered gray faux finish. The color of the wood is indicative of wood that has weathered outside naturally, resulting in a beautiful gray patina. The beams no longer dominate the space visually, but instead marry with the soft gray walls and ceiling.

Backyard features an enclosed landscape that gives breathtaking views throughout different seasons which indicates that the experience of this house in terms of light and view gets better with every other season.

The stucco on this Doylestown, PA home had several spots indicating moisture damage under the siding. When removing the stucco around the windows, you could see the rotted wood. Fiber cement is rot-resistant, making it the perfect replacement material.
