Jules Moore’s reimagined Pueblo-style home in Santa Fe brings in light from the surrounding desert and features eclectic décor from her travels around the world. The New Zealand-native immediately loved where the house was situated – perched on a canyon’s edge – when she initially saw the home. The house required a lot of work: it had been uninhabited for 10 years, and its small windows did little to brighten the space and emphasize the natural landscape. Marvin’s Ultimate collection offered the level of customization Moore needed for her exact vision of the home. Moore also installed the Marvin Skycove in the home’s primary suite. The Skycove created the perfect space for Moore to enjoy watching the sunset and a cozy space for her French bulldog Sake to indulge in generous sunlight. “Marvin was the only team that presented to me different options that were going to work for this home,” said Moore. “I wanted the picture windows, but I needed the classic element to match the colonial wood. Sometimes the unique challenges of a site dictate almost everything about the end design. This European-inspired mountain retreat is one classic example. Perched atop a ridge, the buildable area was long but very narrow. A single axial line connects from the initial approach straight through the house and shoots to the view of mountains at the far end. The architecture of the home was envisioned to feel like an old French monastery-turned-family-home which has been restored and added to over several centuries. It is a place of solace and introspection, where the repetition of stone in house and landscape feels imposing, yet safe. Lush plantings line the sun-soaked parking court and dot the back terrace areas, creating delicate play of light and movement. A stepped water rill between terrace levels completes the atmosphere with its soothing babble.

Initially designed as a bachelor's Sonoma weekend getaway, The Fan House features glass and steel garage-style doors that take advantage of the verdant 40-acre hilltop property. With the addition of a wife and children, the secondary residence's interiors needed to change. Ann Lowengart Interiors created a family-friendly environment while adhering to the homeowner's preference for streamlined silhouettes. In the open living-dining room, a neutral color palette and contemporary furnishings showcase the modern architecture and stunning views. A separate guest house provides a respite for visiting urban dwellers.

The redesign of our Greenwich, CT project was an incredibly rewarding experience, made even more special by the opportunity to work on a second home for our wonderful clients after completing their Palm Beach residence last summer. Kitchen was fully updated with a large, central island and more open concept. Quartzite countertops, brass hardware and designer lighting. We updated the built ins around their fireplace, added a large sliding glass door and tied the spaces together with contrasting trim throughout that coordinates with the new cabinetry. When we initially walked the home, there was no mudroom or pantry. We took an unused front living space and created a new entry from the garage and a large, functional mudroom, and added a hidden pantry.

This master bathroom renovation in Frisco was completed for a repeat USI Design & Remodeling client as part of a larger first-floor transformation of the home. The original bathroom reflected a very typical North Texas layout of its era — dark stained cabinetry, granite countertops, compartmentalized vanities, a built-in tub adjoining a framed shower, and separated spaces that no longer aligned with how the homeowners wanted to live. As their aesthetic evolved toward a more transitional and contemporary direction, the goal became less about replacing finishes and more about redefining the experience of the room itself. The project needed to feel calmer, more architectural, and far more intentional in how the space functioned visually and emotionally. One of the most important changes was removing the original shower curb and pony wall in favor of a fully open curbless shower with ultra-clear ½-inch heavy glass. Achieving that look required recessing the slab, re-floating the shower floor toward a linear drain, and engineering the space so the room would read as visually uninterrupted from end to end. Throughout the project, many of the design decisions were rooted in restraint rather than excess. The oversized 24x48 Porcelanosa flooring carries very little shade variation, creating a quieter visual field, while the cabinetry was executed in rift-sawn white oak specifically because it produces a far more controlled and consistent finish outcome than more common cuts of wood. In luxury projects, consistency itself becomes part of the refinement. The floating vanity was designed more like custom furniture than traditional cabinetry, utilizing waterfall mitered edges and fully reworked plumbing locations so both homeowners could share in having generous functional countertop space. The original makeup station was repurposed into integrated storage with powered drawers and concealed organization for everyday items such as blow dryers and flat irons. Along the vanity wall, wall-mounted plumbing fixtures were paired with ribbed natural marble surfaces — a detail that required intentional planning long before construction began. Rather than allowing the ribbed material to terminate awkwardly behind the fixtures, the backsplash and stone transitions were specifically designed to resolve those conditions cleanly. Those are the types of details that distinguish highly coordinated design-build work from projects that simply assemble materials together. While the room contains a significant amount of luxury detailing — from the freestanding tub and geoprism marble focal wall to the custom rift-sawn white oak closet doors and elongated mirrors that leverage the 11-foot ceiling heights — the project was always guided by quiet luxury rather than visual competition. Even the water closet enclosure was handled with restraint through the use of a satin-etched glass door rather than another heavy solid opening. The intent throughout was to create a bathroom that feels restorative and serene rather than overdesigned. In our view, the best luxury spaces are the ones that feel composed long after the initial impression wears off.

Our latest project, an elegant modernisation of a 1920s seafront detached Essex property, features in the February 2024 edition of 25 beautiful Homes. This enterprise grew from an initial entrance hall cabinetry commission into a much larger project, encompassing many aspects of interior design, including decorative schemes for colours and finishes, spatial planning and lighting design. We also produced a wide range of cabinetry designs throughout the property, including the wine wall, principle bed and headboard, his and hers dressing room wardrobes and bespoke 5m drop staircase lighting feature, which runs through the whole house. We were fortunate to be part of a great project team, working alongside talented builders Intelligent Building, joinery masters Nord Build and home automation wizards P&R Service.

Our objective in this home remodeling project was to transform our clients’ newly purchased Studio City cape cod style house into an aesthetically beautiful yet functional residence, that they could use for everyday living as well as entertaining friends and family. Our clients loved the original exterior design but wanted an almost entirely changed interior and backyard. We worked with them through the initial stages of design and material selection to ensure that we understand their vision. We integrated elements of contemporary and farmhouse designs throughout the interior. We created an open floor plan with a lot of natural light making a spacious, bright and connected space. We did this through some structural changes and the addition of glass sliding doors and windows. The open floor plan combined with the fully remodeled kitchen and bathrooms, new flooring, plenty of recessed lighting, and many other details managed to literally amaze our clients. We also created a master suite by expanding the master bathroom and constructing a walk-in closet. A new bathroom addition as well as a new pool house along with a new pool and spa were the other parts of this home remodeling project. The new pool and pool house along with a simple yet beautiful landscaping gave the backyard a whole new look. The roof, the HVAC system as well as all doors and windows were replaced. The garage was remodeled and the door replaced. This was a truly beautiful home remodeling at its best by Ava Homes.
