Middlefork Luxury Home BuildersMiddlefork was retained to update and revitalize this North Shore home to a family of six.
The primary goal of this project was to update and expand the home's small, eat-in kitchen. The existing space was gutted and a 1,500-square-foot addition was built to house a gourmet kitchen, connected breakfast room, fireside seating, butler's pantry, and a small office.
The family desired nice, timeless spaces that were also durable and family-friendly. As such, great consideration was given to the interior finishes. The 10' kitchen island, for instance, is a solid slab of white velvet quartzite, selected for its ability to withstand mustard, ketchup and finger-paint. There are shorter, walnut extensions off either end of the island that support the children's involvement in meal preparation and crafts. Low-maintenance Atlantic Blue Stone was selected for the perimeter counters.
The scope of this phase grew to include re-trimming the front façade and entry to emphasize the Georgian detailing of the home. In addition, the balance of the first floor was gutted; existing plumbing and electrical systems were updated; all windows were replaced; two powder rooms were updated; a low-voltage distribution system for HDTV and audio was added; and, the interior of the home was re-trimmed. Two new patios were also added, providing outdoor areas for entertaining, dining and cooking.

Metallic accents create a more modern feel that plays off of the hardware already in the home. The result is a comfortable and bright home where everyone can relax at the end of a long day.

JackBilt HomesJackBilt reused all of the home’s original hardware and fixtures whenever possible, but in certain instances the team was challenged to find antique replicas to complete the design. The fixtures in this formal Living Room are French antiques from the 1920’s and the adjoining Library features the original hardware and antique fixtures from Belgium, dating back to the early 1900’s.
This original limestone fireplace was given a modern upgrade by JackBilt with new marble and gas functionality. Noticeable chisel marks indicate that the impressive mantle is hand carved, but the story that an Italian artisan was flown in to specifically create the piece on-site remains unconfirmed.

Western Window Systems“Dramatic” and “no detail spared” are two ways to describe this stunning home in Corona del Mar. Located on an oversized bluff side lot with views of Newport Harbor, Catalina, and the Pacific Ocean, the contemporary dwelling is the work of Brandon Architects Inc. and Spinnaker Development. Door and window systems from Western are used throughout, especially the Series 600 Multi-Slide, where it’s used to enhance features such as indoor/outdoor living areas and a guest casita that opens to a courtyard.

Berry Design BuildIf you are familiar with our work, at Berry Design Build, you know that to us each project is more than just sticks and mortar. Each home, each client, each family we have the privilege to work with becomes part of our team. We believe in the value of excellence, the importance of commitment, and the significance of delivery. This renovation, along with many, is very close to our hearts because it’s one of the few instances where we get to exercise more than just the Design Build division of our company. This particular client had been working with Berry for many years to find that lifetime home. Through many viewings, agent caravans, and lots of offers later she found a house worth calling home. Although not perfectly to her personality (really what home is until you make it yours) she asked our Design Build division to come in and renovate some areas: including the kitchen, hall bathroom, master bathroom, and most other areas of the house; i.e. paint, hardwoods, and lighting. Each project comes with its challenges, but we were able to combine her love of mid-century modern furnishings with the character of the already existing 1962 ranch.

California Closets Connecticut7. Sight lines Visibility in your home is important, and a sight line is essentially what you can see from a given vantage point. While this term is often used when talking about an open concept floor plan, it can apply to how you organize your home, as well. When you’re creating a closet, for instance, you might consider accessories like translucent drawer fronts, wire bins, specialty racks and drawer dividers to create sight lines for everyday items. This would allow you to easily find and grab any item you need.
