This home owner desired to turn their small kitchen into a spacious great room with a craftsman cabinet design, plenty of kitchen storage and beautiful ocean views.
Our team came up with a kitchen design that laid out a perfect solution for our home owner to review so they could move forward with the confidence of knowing exactly what the end product would be.
First, it was necessary to remove an existing cabinet space to open a dramatic view to the ocean. We regained that storage space by converting one kitchen corner into an area for a Lazy Susan cabinet. We then custom crafted the second corner with a hidden cabinet door which can be used for kitchen supplies or as a liquor cabinet. The home owner enjoyed dinner parties setting her table with oversized plates. Knowing this we custom crafted upper cabinets to be 13 inches deep vs. the standard 12 inches to accommodate her dinnerware. This is an excellent example of how Spectrum Kitchen can custom craft solutions to create the perfect kitchen for your uses. Lastly, we reached the home owner’s kitchen storage goal by integrating a tastefully built 30″ pantry and 15″ broom cabinet.
Smart design means functionality. When opening up a small kitchen to create a great room we love to shift core kitchen components out from underneath cabinets and into an easy access area. Here, we moved the kitchen sink out onto the open countertop peninsula then arranged the major appliances so that each had ample counter space to their sides. This solution made for an easy to move about kitchen and enjoyable cooking experience.

Cowboy Kitchen
LOREC Ranch is renowned for its artisanal approach to creating cowboy kitchen table cabinets, a tradition deeply rooted in both craftsmanship and rustic charm. The ranch’s approach to woodworking melds time-honored techniques with innovative methods, producing cabinets that epitomize the rugged elegance of cowboy culture.
Selecting the Wood
The process begins with the selection of high-quality wood. At LOREC Ranch, the choice of lumber is critical to the final product. They use a variety of hardwoods such as oak, pine, and walnut. Each type of wood offers unique characteristics—oak for its strength and durability, pine for its workability and warm hue, and walnut for its rich, dark tones. The wood is carefully sourced from sustainable forests, ensuring both environmental responsibility and superior quality. Once procured, the wood undergoes a thorough drying process to reduce moisture content, which is crucial for preventing future warping or cracking.
Design and Craftsmanship
Design is a pivotal stage in the creation of cowboy kitchen table cabinets. LOREC Ranch's designs often draw inspiration from traditional cowboy aesthetics, incorporating elements like sturdy, rugged lines and intricate detailing that reflects the essence of Western life. The design phase involves detailed planning and sketching, ensuring that the cabinets not only serve their functional purpose but also enhance the rustic charm of any kitchen. Cowboy Kitchens are a stable of the American Midwest.
The next step is crafting the cabinet frames. Skilled artisans at LOREC Ranch use a combination of modern and traditional techniques. While some aspects of the construction process involve high-tech machinery for precision cutting and joining, much of the fine detailing is done by hand. This includes hand-carving and finishing touches that give each cabinet a unique, handcrafted feel. The artisans' expertise ensures that every joint is perfectly aligned and every surface is smooth and ready for finishing.
Assembly and Finishing
Once the components are cut and shaped, they are assembled using time-tested joinery techniques. LOREC Ranch favors methods such as dovetail and mortise-and-tenon joints, which not only enhance the strength and durability of the cabinets but also align with the traditional craftsmanship that defines their products of the Cowboys Kitchen. The assembly process is meticulous, ensuring that each piece fits together seamlessly and stands the test of time.
Finishing is where the cabinets truly come to life. LOREC Ranch uses a range of techniques to achieve a finish that complements the wood’s natural beauty while providing protection against wear and tear. This often involves multiple coats of stain or varnish, each applied with care to enhance the wood’s grain and texture. The finishing process is both art and science, requiring a delicate balance to ensure the cabinets not only look beautiful but are also resistant to daily use.
Quality Control and Delivery
Before any cabinet leaves the workshop, it undergoes rigorous quality control. Every detail is inspected to ensure that the cabinet meets LOREC Ranch’s high standards. This includes checking for structural integrity, finish consistency, and overall craftsmanship. Only after passing this thorough inspection are the Cowboys Kitchens cabinets prepared for delivery.
At LOREC Ranch, the journey of creating cowboy kitchen cabinets is a blend of tradition and innovation. From selecting the finest wood to the final touches of finishing, every step is executed with precision and care. The result is a product that is not only a testament to the rich heritage of cowboy craftsmanship but also a functional and stylish addition to any kitchen.

We are Dexign Matter, an award-winning studio sought after for crafting multi-layered interiors that we expertly curated to fulfill individual design needs.
Design Director Zoe Lee’s passion for customization is evident in this city residence where she melds the elevated experience of luxury hotels with a soft and inviting atmosphere that feels welcoming. Lee’s panache for artful contrasts pairs the richness of strong materials, such as oak and porcelain, with the sophistication of contemporary silhouettes. “The goal was to create a sense of indulgence and comfort, making every moment spent in the homea truly memorable one,” says Lee.
By enlivening a once-predominantly white colour scheme with muted hues and tactile textures, Lee was able to impart a characterful countenance that still feels comfortable. She relied on subtle details to ensure this is a residence infused with softness. “The carefully placed and concealed LED light strips throughout create a gentle and ambient illumination,” says Lee.
“They conjure a warm ambiance, while adding a touch of modernity.” Further finishes include a Shaker feature wall in the living room. It extends seamlessly to the room’s double-height ceiling, adding an element of continuity and establishing a connection with the primary ensuite’s wood panelling. “This integration of design elements creates a cohesive and visually appealing atmosphere,” Lee says.
The ensuite’s dramatically veined marble-look is carried from the walls to the countertop and even the cabinet doors. “This consistent finish serves as another unifying element, transforming the individual components into a
captivating feature wall. It adds an elegant touch to the overall aesthetic of the space.”
Pops of black hardware throughout channel that elegance and feel welcoming. Lee says, “The furnishings’ unique characteristics and visual appeal contribute to a sense of continuous luxury – it is now a home that is both bespoke and wonderfully beckoning.”

New Urban Luxury
Private Residence – Alys Beach, Florida
Architect: Khoury & Vogt Architects
Builder: BRW Builders of Destin
E. F. San Juan supplied all the interior and exterior wood millwork for this expertly designed residence adjacent to the snow-white dunes found in the serene New Urban townscape of Alys Beach, Florida.
Challenges:
The most significant design challenge of this project was to engineer a processing method to fabricate the complex millwork components in mass for the outdoor lounge. Khoury & Vogt Architects created a custom design for an inspiring and elegant outdoor living space. Fortunately, this house had a resourceful and creative team ensuring the vision of the design stayed intact.
Solution:
The intricate design required a creative approach which entailed high-level fabricating skills. “This project stands out in my mind because it required that I personally design and build numerous jigs,” says Edward San Juan. Taking on the challenge, San Juan designed and handcrafted each jig to the exact specification required for the exterior design.
The team at E. F. San Juan continued with the creative approach, integrating and assembling the custom jigs to produce a work of art. The millwork beautifully complements the sleek white design on the deep indoor-outdoor decks, allowing the feel of the surrounding nature to flow inside. The result is a breathtaking and inspiring New Urban home in a luxurious beach town along Scenic Highway 30-A.

A transformation inspired by the owner’s love of modern architecture, art and color (and the adjacent sand, rock, water, and the northwest landscape), the Indianola House sought to bring the soul of a home to a colorless muted box. The original house was a drab 1990’s-era box with no personality or presence sited on a beautiful secluded bay, facing water and island views, northwest of the City of Seattle. The existing mono-colored stucco-clad exterior and pyramidal glass-block openings had led the neighborhood to dub the structure, unflatteringly, “The Miami Vice House”.
Rhodes Architecture’s Residential Architects careful use of natural light, rich, collaged finishes and ability to open the house to gardens, beach, and outdoor gathering was critical to the design. The house soon became “The Gallery”.
The original home’s grey stucco exterior made the house seem both large and featureless; the introduction of no-maintenance exterior materials that collage and complement each other was a goal of the homeowner and the Seattle Architects who teamed up for this residential design. The bloated scale of the house cried out for the establishment and definition of the parts of the structure, a breaking down of the home’s form and its apparent bland size.
Living, sleeping, and bathing areas that started as staid spaces were in need of opening to the natural environment with additions of large doors, folding glass walls and useable balconies were crucial to each space having a dialogue with the outdoors.
The owner’s extensive art collection was highlighted and became the focus of interior places, well-lit naturally and through a new lighting system. Energy use and sustainable systems were a key component of the design which used high-efficacy lighting, better cladding on a rain-screen system, high-efficiency doors and windows, new insulation and weather barriers, and which added a photovoltaic-generated electrical system. The contemporary design sought to integrate all of these systems, materials, and finishes into a seamless whole that lent interest and drama to a residence which was previously lusterless.
How radically this house was transformed is evident in the exteriors, gardens and the natural spaces the house now opens to, as well as the gallery-like interiors. This home is a stunning testament to what is possible “before-and-after” when remade by Rhodes Architecture + Light.
The clients are an older couple with long professional and political careers, a love of art and a clear desire to connect with the Northwest environment and enliven their daily lives with spaces full of color and natural light.
Rhodes Architecture + Light was hired in 2019 to add new exteriors and interiors, natural light, larger openings to beach and bay, seismic and foundation upgrades to the home, and to infuse life into the house through the re-use of existing space and varied materials, color, textures, and lighting. The only actual change to the exterior “shell” of the house was the introduction of a low “gull-wing” roof with wood soffits above the central atrium space, to add drama and bring natural light into the entry gallery space. Interior spaces, including bedrooms and bathrooms, were re-planned and opened to each other, to greater natural light, to roof decks, and to the incredible views and sea-side environment.
The Builder, Fairbank Construction Company of Bainbridge Island, Washington, met the challenge of the design, first completely deconstructing the finishes inside and out, then precisely interlocking new claddings, windows and doors, cabinetry, finishes and a new gull-wing central roof in a beautiful transformation. The construction was total, thorough, and very detailed, resulting a house that, far from seeming a “remodeling”, is far more present and fitting to the owner’s lives and the natural environment than the house we started with.

The main objective for this project was to create a beautiful outdoor cooking and entertaining space. The clients wanted the new space to have an open concept while being protected from the elements year round. Stylistically they wanted the design to have a Pacific Northwest feel, to blend with the existing house and work well among their natural, forested backyard. We needed to include a BBQ, smoker, sink, refrigerator, gas fireplace and wall mounted heater as well as a large screen TV. The details were going to be a main focus for the design process, as we knew this would ensure the cohesive blend of function and aesthetic appeal.
One of the main challenges was working with the existing deck. The 1000 SF deck needed new decking and guardrails as well as some framing repair. We were worried that the existing deck structure would not support the weight of the new construction.
Another challenge we faced was designing the roof planes to aesthetically blend with the existing house. The layout of the first and second floor had us working through multiple design revisions until we landed on the final stepped roof structure.
We designed the new roof to be supported by the house and columns set directly on the ground, thereby minimizing weight added to the existing deck. This allowed us to use the deck to support the lighter components, including the kitchen and BBQ area.
Oversized beams, exposed raw wood rafters, and sealed car decking worked well with the new cedar deck surface. Stainless steel cabinetry and appliances are accented by solid surface countertops and small mosaic backsplash. All colors were selected to fall within the natural hues of the seasonally changing foliage surrounding the clients’ property.
Maintaining the same footprint of the existing deck, we used the angles to our advantage and created additional seating with a custom built storage bench. New powder coated posts and cable guardrails were topped with an LED lined wood handrail. A decorative chandelier and subtle metal pendants provide ambient light. An electric heater mounted to the inside of one of the beams as well as the gas fireplace provides ample heat for colder months.
The clerestory windows between the two roof planes provide additional light to the space while protecting against the elements. The gas fireplace and cultured stone wrapped chimney is a visual anchor and centerpiece for the deck. The chimney provided an opportunity to hide one of the supporting columns as well as a protected space for the wall mounted TV and soundbar.
The cabinetry layout was selected to offer plenty of storage and special features including a pull out garbage and recycling center, drawers for dishes and utensils, and a concealed paper towel holder.

This northwest modern style home is located on the Columbia River with stunning obstructed views of the high desert surroundings. Montana Timber Products siding, and trim were a natural fit on this elegant residence with expansive windows and stucco cladding. We take pride in having the knowledge and mastery required to custom mill nearly any wood application requested by architects and designers. Our materials arrive pre-finished, sealed, ready to be installed and beautify buildings.

We transformed this Wynnewood home with a comprehensive renovation focusing on the kitchen, powder room, and mudroom. The kitchen saw a modern upgrade with White Shaker cabinets, new countertops, and a tile backsplash. Essential fixtures like sinks, cabinet hardware, and faucets were installed, alongside LED cabinet lighting. We enhanced the space with new island lights and updated electrical components. In the powder room, we relocated it to the garage and installed framing, drywall, and new fixtures. The mudroom received new framing, stairs, an exterior sliding door, and custom storage solutions. The project concluded with a seamless integration of new flooring throughout the home.

This dramatic remodel reinvigorated mid-century modern with an updated contemporary vibe after earlier updates had traditionalized the home. Completed in 2022, a significant reorganization of the space removed an existing fireplace and reallocated a living room to create a centrally located open-concept Kitchen and Dining Room.
Dominating the kitchen is the spectacular emerald-toned glass cabinetry. Vivid and rich, the matte glass provides a depth and softness unmatched by painted cabinetry. Natural quartzite slabs wrap the waterfalled island and backsplashes, the unique graining provides interest without competing against the bold cabinetry.
The home’s unique butterfly floorplan is reflected in the various angles incorporated into the architectural elements of the island, new walls and directing paths through offset openings. A series of interconnected beams, soffits, and columns impose spatial order and break the space into digestible visual components. The gas range is incorporated into a niche that contains a generous backbar, full-height backsplash and integrated spice storage.
The island features brass inlays at slab breaks and a contrasting granite backchannel with an inconspicuous ‘scrubby-dubby cubby’ at one end for concealing cleaning supplies. The knee space is clad in the white oak planks of the floor, aligned and turned vertically as if folded.
A distinctive black stained buffet with touch latch drawers is comprised of strips of cherry repurposed from paneling found in den. Matching woodwork is incorporated into the Foyer and wraps the Fireplace.

Complicated design elements all confluence with the stairs, banisters and newel posts. They were planned in proportional relationship and are appropriate to the scale of the stairwell area. With an equal nod to both the aesthetics and function, the stair detail employs finger joints between the stair risers while the larger rectangular pegs along the length of each board contribute solid integrity to the construction design. The edges of all components are softened for touch and visual appeal. Mechanical fasteners are not employed to support the railing or stairs—here, highly engineered wooden mortise, tennons and pegs do the work. On this design point, beauty, function and Japanese influence are brought forward.

This gorgeous custom wine cellar acts as a dramatic entrypiece as you walk into this beautiful home in San Juan Capistrano, Orange County, California. San Juan Capistrano is a lovely community located slightly inland, tucked within Orange County near cities like Newport Beach, Lake Forest, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa, Dana Point, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Hills, and Irvine.
This fantastically designed wine cellar, courtesy of the master wine cellar builders at Vintage Cellars, is a unique representation of fun and bespoke features that can be incorporated into a traditional redwood, yet modern and bright wine cellar like this. The wine room draws you in from across the house, with its warm redwood tones and interesting wrought iron and glass door. Wine Cellar doors are often overlooked, but proper knowledge of door materials, glass specifications, threshold placement and hanging procedures are key to creating that perfect airtight room. Additionally, based on the location of your room within your home, the amount of glass in your wine cellar, and your location in the world, levels of cooling capacity need to be seriously considered.
Glass is a naturally poor insulator. Because there has been a very heavy push for "wine cellar art," "wine cellars as art," and wine cellars as a main design component within high end homes, glass wine cellars are often incorporated in high trafficked areas or spaces where each homeowner can show off their prized wines to friends in an almost showcase like display.
When you first enter this large custom wine cellar in Orange County, Southern California, standing out first immediately on your left is a unique work station with a scanner, label-maker, and table top - perfect for inventorying the 3,500 bottles that this rustic wine cellar holds. The e-Sommelier system integrated allows this homeowner to catalog each and every wine within his collection, first letting the program know he owns it, how many bottles, which vintages, and with the click of a button - custom wine labels each with a bar code. Accompanied with the bar code scanner, the e-sommelier system has become a great companion for wine cellars and wine collectors alike, allowing a somewhat seamless and straightforward process in inventorying wines.
Directly past the wine inventory station is a vertical row of large format bottle coved trays, displaying some of the owner's favorite wines in the most coveted vintages.
This large walk in custom wine cellar in all heart redwood wine racking fills most of its capacity utilizing double deep, individual bottle storage. At waist height spanning the entire circumference of the wine room is a high reveal display row, highlighted with LED lighting and more single deep storage behind.
The back wall, in addition to the high reveal display row and double deep individual bottle storage, incorporates a rectangular wine work center with glass rack above - perfect for decanting, storing uniquely shaped bottles, and opening your favorite bottles with friends. Directly below this countertop are two drawers. A unique feature throughout this wooden traditional large walk in wine cellar in San Juan Capistrano, Orange County, California is the incorporation of wine barrel into the room's corner walls, work stations, countertops, and center custom table.
This custom wine cellar near Newport Beach, Dana Point, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Coto De Caza, Laguna Niguel, Huntington Beach, and other gorgeous beach communities in Orange County, also incorporates wine case storage throughout the bottom, and a small area above the wine inventory system for split bottles.
Vintage Cellars, as well as the homeowner, are very happy with the way this beautiful project turned out, and we would love the opportunity to help you with you wine cellar projects!
