With respect to the notion of old-meets-new, the kitchen strikes a comfortable balance between materials. For the center island, Franklin repurposed original barn siding into cladding for the unit, painting it grey. The Corian counter top and stainless steel backsplash provide a cool contrast. A set of antique barstools was a fortunate find for the homeowner. Sourced from a local bar that had closed, all they needed was a little elbow grease to realize their full potential. It took days to remove years worth of nicotine stains from them, but as Franklin exclaims, "It was worth it because the old stools found a new home in an old barn!" The partial wall was designed to address a number of functional and aesthetic concerns. Dividing the workspace from the storage space, it keeps the pantry area out of view, and allows light to carry through this area of the home. Franklin also uses the wall as a means to display his growing teapot collection. "It’s funny," he confesses, "but I think they can entice people to sit down, have a cup of tea and converse (Imagine that in this world of technology!)" Adrienne DeRosa Photography

This classic plunge pool with spa is designed to take advantage of a small space and stylistically enhance a contemporary home. The result is a fine example of clean lines and symmetrical visual appeal. The use of Merbau timber decking and narrow honed Himalayan sandstone surrounds create a fresh and welcoming space. The pool features blue glass mosaic waterline and step tread tiles, beautiful navy blue pebbled lining and a small spill-over mouth with sandstone coping. The spa component is a reliable and straightforward set-up, with blower and spa jets delivering perfect relaxation at the touch of a button. There is also a deep and shallow end to the pool, a sandstone skimmer box lid and integrated gas heating for both the swimming pool and spa.

The project was completed after running the wires from the fireplace to corner right cabinet where the components were located. The speakers are part of the Monitor Audio Radius series, and they blend in quite nicely with the shelving

This modern renovation creates a focal point for a cool and modern living room with a linear fireplace surrounded by a wall of wood grain granite. The TV nook is recessed for safety and to create a flush plane for the stone and television. The firebox is enhanced with black enamel panels as well as driftwood and crystal media. The stainless steel surround matches the mixed metal accents of the furnishings.

Control of components is via a radio frequency remote control whose commands penetrate walls and cabinet doors. The wires at the bottom are in preparation for a small console which will house 3 gaming systems and a blu-ray player so the client didn't have to leave the room to switch game cartridges or movie discs. A total of 8 speakers are concealed with the room. The left, center, right are hidden in a custom sound bar on the bottom of the TV. Additional 4 in-ceiling speakers are descreetly install to provide the rear and height effects. Next to the wall outlet on the right is an in-wall subwoofer requires no space in the media room. In the Family Room we opted for more storage capacity and to integrate the wall-mounted TV. We broke up the solid planes of the cabinetry with wire mesh inserts that also allow for air flow to the interior components.
