Located on the flat of Beacon Hill, this iconic building is rich in history and in detail. Constructed in 1828 as one of the first buildings in a series of row houses, it was in need of a major renovation to improve functionality and to restore as well as re-introduce charm.Originally designed by noted architect Asher Benjamin, the renovation was respectful of his early work. “What would Asher have done?” was a common refrain during design decision making, given today’s technology and tools. We reconfigured this kitchen - removing a wall - to allow for a large island for entertaining. With two young children, durability was key. We chose Brownstone stools customized with performance fabric on the back to introduce a bit of pattern and wipeable faux leather seats. The backsplash over range is a single slab of Eureka Danby from Vermont's Dorsett Mountain, which wipes down easily. The Lostine pendants and sconces introduce a smidge of midcentury vibes. The tongue and groove backsplash and soapstone counters provide a quaint farmhouse feel; and we chose the fabric for the roman shade from a Parisian fabric house, Antoinette Poisson, which specializes in 18th century pattern designs, to add a bit of history.

Challenge: The client wanted a full bathroom transformation while keeping all plumbing in its existing locations to minimize renovation costs, requiring creative design solutions within structural limitations. Solution: The design team reimagined the space by introducing updated finishes, distinctive tile layouts, wallpaper, and statement lighting to elevate the bathroom while working within the existing layout. The project was executed entirely remotely, demonstrating a seamless virtual design process. Materials: Bedrosians tile, Thibaut wallpaper, Arteriors lighting, Kohler plumbing fixtures, Jaipur Living rugs, Made Goods bath mirrors, and Bungalow5 bath stool. Bathroom - bathroom idea in Hertfordshire

The dining space is open to the timber frame above but bound on each side by freestanding thick-walled partitions. One links back to the kitchen the other defines the edge of the dining area in the larger space. Etched glass and layers of translucency define the aesthetic. The gentleman of the house, as is often the case, has the smaller reach-in - but we were able to introduce many of the same elements that we did in the lady's master closet - just on a smaller scale.

Example of a minimalist home design design in New York

Blending contemporary and historic styles requires innovative design and a well-balanced aesthetic. That was the challenge we faced in creating a modern kitchen for this historic home in Lynnfield, MA. The final design retained the classically beautiful spatial and structural elements of the home while introducing a sleek sophistication. We mixed the two design palettes carefully. For instance, juxtaposing the warm, distressed wood of an original door with the smooth, brightness of non-paneled, maple cabinetry. A cork floor and accent cabinets of white metal add texture while a seated, step-down peninsula and built in bookcase create an open transition from the kitchen proper to an inviting dining space.
