The cost of kitchen cabinets is a major consideration when designing a new kitchen. There are so many things that need to be evaluated including the materials, the color and finish. What most kitchen designers don't mention are all of the issues relating to the fit and use of your new cabinets. At Performance Kitchens & Home, our roots come from fine craftspeople like George Nakashima and George Brauntrager, who pioneered many of the techniques that we integrate into our kitchen cabinets.
We believe that every kitchen deserves cabinets that are beautiful, well-built, functional and that are designed to stand up to the test of time. We hope that some of these finely crafted kitchen cabinets will spark some ideas for you!

KitchenLab Interiors’ first, entirely new construction project in collaboration with GTH architects who designed the residence. KLI was responsible for all interior finishes, fixtures, furnishings, and design including the stairs, casework, interior doors, moldings and millwork. KLI also worked with the client on selecting the roof, exterior stucco and paint colors, stone, windows, and doors. The homeowners had purchased the existing home on a lakefront lot of the Valley Lo community in Glenview, thinking that it would be a gut renovation, but when they discovered a host of issues including mold, they decided to tear it down and start from scratch. The minute you look out the living room windows, you feel as though you're on a lakeside vacation in Wisconsin or Michigan. We wanted to help the homeowners achieve this feeling throughout the house - merging the causal vibe of a vacation home with the elegance desired for a primary residence. This project is unique and personal in many ways - Rebekah and the homeowner, Lorie, had grown up together in a small suburb of Columbus, Ohio. Lorie had been Rebekah's babysitter and was like an older sister growing up. They were both heavily influenced by the style of the late 70's and early 80's boho/hippy meets disco and 80's glam, and both credit their moms for an early interest in anything related to art, design, and style. One of the biggest challenges of doing a new construction project is that it takes so much longer to plan and execute and by the time tile and lighting is installed, you might be bored by the selections of feel like you've seen them everywhere already. “I really tried to pull myself, our team and the client away from the echo-chamber of Pinterest and Instagram. We fell in love with counter stools 3 years ago that I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on, thank god, because then they started showing up literally everywhere", Rebekah recalls. Lots of one of a kind vintage rugs and furnishings make the home feel less brand-spanking new. The best projects come from a team slightly outside their comfort zone. One of the funniest things Lorie says to Rebekah, "I gave you everything you wanted", which is pretty hilarious coming from a client to a designer.

The couple didn’t want to deal with much maintenance and our solution was a raised patio design. The challenge was the relatively steep slope that ran away from the house making it necessary to put solid compactable materials underneath to avoid settling issues later on.

The original house which was located here had been in the family for several decades, used as a summer house and then altered to have another rental unit below. A family member then took on the task of renovating this house, originally the design process included saving the existing building due to location issues, however it was then allowed to be built completely new which then put it under new guidelines to raise it out of any potential high water zones. The new house borrowed the compact gambrel roof lines from the original Beach bungalow. However this historic family home took advantage of all views and solar exposure. The new layout features a one story, 3 bedroom unit on the garden level with a 2 story, 3 bedroom unit above it so all the relatives can stay together. The goal was to provide a flexible and energy efficient design with ample light and cross ventilation for all bedrooms.

In most cases, the replacement of a vanity top can improve the look of a bathroom drastically and add additional value to a house. It is a relatively simple process and can be done in a short period of time. With more than 4,000 stone slabs and a warehouse for production on site the time of replacement of an existing vanity top, kitchen countertops or a matching stone table top is shorter since we can address any issue right then and there. For many years, the Architecture Stones team has been working on helping customers from the DC Metro Area with any desire regarding custom-made stone related products such as: shower thresholds, fireplace mantels, custom-made stone sinks, quartz kitchen countertops, marble tiles, shower wall stone slabs, granite table tops, and as it was mentioned above, quartz bathroom vanity tops. Any size, shape, thickness and color of a vanity top can be custom-made by our team at Architecture Stones shop in Rockville, MD.

This client approached us with a request to remodel their home to better accommodate their
needs related to a recent amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis, also known as Lou
Gehrig’s disease–a condition that can lead to various physical challenges, including mobility
issues, fatigue, and diffi culty with manual tasks. Recognizing the impact of these challenges on
daily living, the client sought our expertise to make their home more accessible and functional.
The project involved a signifi cant redesign of their three-story home, including the installation
of an elevator to provide seamless access across all fl oors, and a complete remodel of the
Primary Bathroom and Bedroom to enhance usability and comfort. This redesign was driven by
the objective to support the client’s independence and improve their quality of life. Knowing
that the client would receive assistance through the Veteran Affairs Special Adaptive Housing
Program, our Team needed to include additional documentation for this project.
