Mid Century Modern Renovation - nestled in the heart of Arapahoe Acres. This home was purchased as a foreclosure and needed a complete renovation. To complete the renovation - new floors, walls, ceiling, windows, doors, electrical, plumbing and heating system were redone or replaced. The kitchen and bathroom also underwent a complete renovation - as well as the home exterior and landscaping. Many of the original details of the home had not been preserved so Kimberly Demmy Design worked to restore what was intact and carefully selected other details that would honor the mid century roots of the home. This is part of a whole home remodel we completed and featured in the Home Builder's Association Showcase of Remodeled Homes. This room is probably the biggest transformation in the whole home. What was previously an unused garage in the home, has now become a mudroom and entertainment area for the home with surround sound speakers wired into the room.
The old garage door was removed and a new wall was built with a window and door. The whole room used to be a step down into the garage, so a new slab was poured to bring it up to the same level - however structure in the exterior wall didn't allow for the new entry door to be raised up in height, which is why there is a step down for the door, which also keeps salty snow water away from the carpet.
A window was cut into the exterior wall along the edge to allow for more light to come in. Heating and electrical were brought into the room to make it a livable space. Can lighting was installed to bring in light without affecting the ceiling height.
Finally, tile was installed by the entry door to match the upstairs Galvano Charcoal porcelain tile and Team Player (color talented) carpet throughout.

What used to be the entry door into the garage was walled in and is now the closet for coats and boots, and will have a bench installed lengthwise.
Heating and electrical were brought into the room to make it a livable space. Can lighting was installed to bring in light without affecting the ceiling height. The ceiling texture was stripped and sanded and repainted white. The walls were painted French Grey and Creekbend.
Finally, tile was installed by the entry door to match the upstairs Galvano Charcoal porcelain tile and Team Player (color talented) carpet throughout.

Across from Hudson River Park, the Classic 7 pre-war apartment had not renovated in over 50 years. The new owners, a young family with two kids, desired to open up the existing closed in spaces while keeping some of the original, classic pre-war details. Dark, dimly-lit corridors and clustered rooms that were a detriment to the brilliant natural light and expansive views the existing apartment inherently possessed, were demolished to create a new open plan for a more functional style of living. Custom charcoal stained white oak herringbone floors were laid throughout the space. The dark blue lacquered kitchen cabinets provide a sharp contrast to the otherwise neutral colored space. A wall unit in the same blue lacquer floats on the wall in the Den.

The Plymouth clients faced a dilemma with a non-functioning dishwasher, ovens, and cooktop, an awkward layout, and dated arches straight from the ’80s. Despite the challenges, their love for the school district, neighborhood, and home prevailed.
We undertook a transformative journey, turning their first floor into an entertainer’s haven with a stunning kitchen, a chic dining room, an enchanting powder bath, and a practical mudroom.
Breaking down barriers, we removed the wall between the kitchen and living room, widening entrances to the dining room. Faux beams and a window in the family room were eliminated, and the old Chicago fireplace brick received a sleek black makeover crowned with a live edge mantel. A pop of terracotta paint and floating shelves in the new record player niche set the stage for nostalgic LPs.
Considering the family’s love for baking and grilling, we prioritized ample storage. Pull-out spice racks, a charging drawer, built-in knife block, trash & recycle pull-out, built-in tray dividers, corner storage, large drawers, and roll-out shelves now keep everything organized and easily accessible.
Embracing a Scandifornian design style, favored by the clients, infused the space with color and natural materials. A woven grass light fixture in the dining room, light wood-look luxury vinyl floors, and a vibrant green herringbone tile backsplash all contributed to the refreshing aesthetic. Throughout the home, terracotta and green hues with accents of black added depth and interest, while the redesigned layout now bathes the entire space in natural light.
In addressing practical needs, we removed an exterior door from the mudroom to create a closet and a built-in bench with hooks. The main entry and powder bath now share playful floral wallpaper, complemented by a walnut vanity and gold fixtures in the powder room, offering a sophisticated touch amidst vibrant botanicals.

The unused dining room was envisioned as a sitting room for family chats, girlfriend wine nights, and couples’ conversations. The inspiration was taken from the vintage stereo cabinet, which the family uses regularly to play LP’s. Lighting, furniture frames, and textural rug all evoke the flavors of the ’60s and warmly invite its guests. The theme continues into the super functional study, using minimalistic furniture (including a recliner that doesn’t look like one!) and a custom-built cabinet with inset drawers and doors, providing tons of storage. The light fixture here is the perfect punctuation to this special space, keeping it open and airy.
The kitchen continues to boast minimalistic, yet prominent features. The sliding door, mid-century inspired seating and special glass top table (that has a self-contained extension when the party grows larger) are all unique pieces to define this spacious kitchen. Gold accents are throughout to warm up the space and keep it cozy.

CURE Senior Designer, Cori Dyer's personal home. Takes you through a home tour of her exquisitely designed spaces. Recently Renovated Kitchen, here is what Cori has to say about that process...Initially, I had to have the "upgrade" of thermafoil cabinets, but that was 25 years ago...it was time to bring my trendy kitchen space up to my current design standards! Ann Sachs.... Kelly Wearstler tile were the inspiration for the entire space. Eliminating walls between cabinetry, appliances, and a desk no longer necessary, were just the beginning. Adding a warm morel wood tone to these new cabinets and integrating a wine/coffee station were just some of the updates. I decided to keep the "White Kitchen" on the north side and add the same warm wood tone to the hood. A fresh version of the traditional farmhouse sink, Grohe faucet and Rio Blanc Quartzite were all part of the design. To keep the space open I added floating shelves both on the north side of the white kitchen and again above the wine refrigerator. A great spot in incorporate my love of artwork and travel!

My House Design/Build Team | www.myhousedesignbuild.com | 604-694-6873 | Duy Nguyen Photography ----- This once dark, enclosed main floor living space has been transformed into an open concept, bright and airy interior that brings the outdoors in. We built a 10’ x 23’ addition out the back of the home that is finished in glass and glu-lam. The glass ceiling combined with new large windows allows an ample amount of natural light to flow through the transformed space highlighting an inviting atmosphere even during Vancouver’s rainy season. The crisp white cabinetry truly helped brighten this space, however we still wanted to keep rich natural wood tone and textures in this home to reference the North Vancouver landscape. A seamless transition from interior to exterior is highlighted by the textured, multi-tone oak floors, dark stained glu-lam beams as well as the character in the live edge shelves and desktop.
