Located at the front of the house, the kitchen/diner benefits from ample afternoon light. The flat-panel cabinetry features polished materials that reflect light and give the room its modern industrial edge. The elevator toward the back of the space was added in Spring of 2014. As the center of all daily activity, abundant storage is a must, as are easy-to-clean surfaces. Sticky fingers are bound to rush through the room countless times each day, and by selecting kid-friendly materials, there is freedom in knowing that all messes can be wiped away at the end of the day. Inspiration for a timeless patio remodel in Chicago

The main goal with this design was to reintegrate the kitchen with the rest of the unit’s living space, creating a free flow between the kitchen area and the living room, allowing for easy communication between family members, or between host and guests. The use of black cabinetry, however, creates a certain demarcation between the two spaces so that it is clear where one space ends and the other begins – thereby ensuring that this elegant space does not feel like an efficiency kitchen.

John & Jan's kitchen was a small white kitchen that filled about a third of the screen you are looking at. This didn't work for them with the amount of children and grandchildren running around. We named their island the last supper island for the sheer length of it!

This gray and transitional kitchen remodel bridges the gap between contemporary style and traditional style. The dark gray cabinetry, light gray walls, and white subway tile backsplash make for a beautiful, neutral canvas for the bold teal blue and yellow décor accented throughout the design. Designer Gwen Adair of Cabinet Supreme by Adair did a fabulous job at using grays to create a neutral backdrop to bring out the bright, vibrant colors that the homeowners love so much. This Milwaukee, WI kitchen is the perfect example of Dura Supreme's recent launch of gray paint finishes, it has been interesting to see these new cabinetry colors suddenly flowing across our manufacturing floor, destined for homes around the country. Location: New York, NY, USA We loved renovating this space for our client who is a Chef and wanted a functional kitchen that is also beautiful. Her previous kitchen had been purchased at a Restaurant Supply Store on the Lower East Side and though totally functional it was just not highlighting the natural beauty of the apartment. We were able to use the existing beams and brick walls as an amazing back-drop to the kitchen. We added decorative lighting to the Kitchen and Dining Areas to define those spaces and changed the track heads throughout the apartment to modernize the lighting. We also built her a new Home Office enclosure to be more in keeping with the loft environment - a little jewel box in the apartment. Overall, a total success!! Photographed by: James Salomon

DOWNLOAD NOW   Working with this Glen Ellyn client was so much fun the first time around, we were thrilled when they called to say they were considering moving across town and might need some help with a bit of design work at the new house. The kitchen in the new house had been recently renovated, but it was not exactly what they wanted. What started out as a few tweaks led to a pretty big overhaul of the kitchen, mudroom and laundry room. Luckily, we were able to use re-purpose the old kitchen cabinetry and custom island in the remodeling of the new laundry room — win-win! As parents of two young girls, it was important for the homeowners to have a spot to store equipment, coats and all the “behind the scenes” necessities away from the main part of the house which is a large open floor plan. The existing basement mudroom and laundry room had great bones and both rooms were very large. To make the space more livable and comfortable, we laid slate tile on the floor and added a built-in desk area, coat/boot area and some additional tall storage. We also reworked the staircase, added a new stair runner, gave a facelift to the walk-in closet at the foot of the stairs, and built a coat closet. The end result is a multi-functional, large comfortable room to come home to! Just beyond the mudroom is the new laundry room where we re-used the cabinets and island from the original kitchen. The new laundry room also features a small powder room that used to be just a toilet in the middle of the room. You can see the island from the old kitchen that has been repurposed for a laundry folding table. The other countertops are maple butcherblock, and the gold accents from the other rooms are carried through into this room. We were also excited to unearth an existing window and bring some light into the room. This gray and white family kitchen has touches of gold and warm accents. The Diamond Cabinets that were purchased from Lowes are a warm grey and are accented with champagne gold Atlas cabinet hardware. The Taj Mahal quartzite countertops have a nice cream tone with veins of gold and gray. The mother or pearl diamond mosaic tile backsplash by Jeffery Court adds a little sparkle to the small kitchen layout. The island houses the glass cook top with a stainless steel hood above the island. The white appliances are not the typical thing you see in kitchens these days but works beautifully. We completely renovated this space for an episode of HGTV House Hunters Renovation. The kitchen was originally a galley kitchen. We removed a wall between the DR and the kitchen to open up the space. We used a combination of countertops in this kitchen. To give a buffer to the wood counters, we used slabs of marble each side of the sink. This adds interest visually and helps to keep the water away from the wood counters. We used blue and cream for the cabinetry which is a lovely, soft mix and wood shelving to match the wood counter tops. To complete the eclectic finishes we mixed gold light fixtures and cabinet hardware with black plumbing fixtures and shelf brackets.
