This residence was a complete gut renovation of a 4-story row house in Park Slope, and included a new rear extension and penthouse addition. The owners wished to create a warm, family home using a modern language that would act as a clean canvas to feature rich textiles and items from their world travels. As with most Brooklyn row houses, the existing house suffered from a lack of natural light and connection to exterior spaces, an issue that Principal Brendan Coburn is acutely aware of from his experience re-imagining historic structures in the New York area. The resulting architecture is designed around moments featuring natural light and views to the exterior, of both the private garden and the sky, throughout the house, and a stripped-down language of detailing and finishes allows for the concept of the modern-natural to shine. Upon entering the home, the kitchen and dining space draw you in with views beyond through the large glazed opening at the rear of the house. An extension was built to allow for a large sunken living room that provides a family gathering space connected to the kitchen and dining room, but remains distinctly separate, with a strong visual connection to the rear garden. The open sculptural stair tower was designed to function like that of a traditional row house stair, but with a smaller footprint. By extending it up past the original roof level into the new penthouse, the stair becomes an atmospheric shaft for the spaces surrounding the core. All types of weather – sunshine, rain, lightning, can be sensed throughout the home through this unifying vertical environment. The stair space also strives to foster family communication, making open living spaces visible between floors. At the upper-most level, a free-form bench sits suspended over the stair, just by the new roof deck, which provides at-ease entertaining. Oak was used throughout the home as a unifying material element. As one travels upwards within the house, the oak finishes are bleached to further degrees as a nod to how light enters the home. The owners worked with CWB to add their own personality to the project. The meter of a white oak and blackened steel stair screen was designed by the family to read “I love you” in Morse Code, and tile was selected throughout to reference places that hold special significance to the family. To support the owners’ comfort, the architectural design engages passive house technologies to reduce energy use, while increasing air quality within the home – a strategy which aims to respect the environment while providing a refuge from the harsh elements of urban living. As part of this full house renovation in Upper Lonsdale, North Vancouver, the bedroom storage was redesigned to feel seamless and architectural rather than freestanding. This custom-installed wardrobe system features high-gloss white doors paired with a full-height integrated mirror panel, enhancing natural light reflection and visually expanding the room. The clean slab-style fronts maintain a minimalist aesthetic, while the flush installation creates a built-in appearance from wall to wall. The adjacent modern interior door with frosted glass inserts reinforces the contemporary design language carried throughout the home. Combined with wide-plank hardwood flooring, the space achieves a refined, cohesive finish typical of high-quality North Vancouver residential renovations.

Located on the front lines of a public beach walkway, this elegant artist residence layers public and private spaces in order to dynamically connect one’s lifestyle with the regenerative power of nature. The material language shifts between glass, oak, and stone as it explores concepts of porosity, translucence,and privacy. One of the home’s most notable elements is the strategic removal of living square footage to create a spa courtyard on the third level. Tucked away behind a terracotta screen and surrounded by lush vegetation on all sides, the spa acts as a private oasis in the heart of the home for reflection and reconnection. Despite rigid parameters, the home packs cutting edge engineering and design techniques into every centimeter of space. The result is a razor thin roof and floor plane delicately balanced atop massive stone walls. By reducing the density of these elements both above and below, the architecture is able to breathe and expand into its unobstructed views of the ocean and breathtaking sunsets.

Edgemont has more than its share of mid-century post and beam homes — and the best of them have a quiet authority that demands respect. Adding onto a classic like this isn't just a design challenge, it's a responsibility. Get it wrong and you diminish something irreplaceable. Get it right and you give it another generation of life. The approach here was restrained from the street and generous at the back. The original facade was preserved as faithfully as possible — the home reads from the front much as it always has, its proportions and character intact. The additions were pushed to the rear, where a new vaulted primary suite anchors the expansion. Separated from the children's rooms at the front of the home, it gives the parents of a young family something too many renovations forget to provide: a genuine retreat of their own. The suite opens directly onto a private patio and yard, shared with the kitchen and dining area — an indoor-outdoor arrangement that feels like it was always meant to be there, which is the quiet test any addition to a home like this has to pass. The post and beam language was carried through every new element — the structure, the ceiling lines, the way light enters the spaces. An addition that knows where it came from. The original architect would approve.

This office was created for the Designer Showhouse, and our vision was to represent female empowerment. We wanted the office to reflect the life of a vibrant and empowered woman. Someone that’s busy, on the go, well-traveled, and full of energy. The space also reflected other aspects of this woman’s role as the head of a family and the rock that provides calm, peace, and comfort to everyone around her. We showcased these qualities with decor like the built-in library – busy, chaotic yet organized; the tone and color of the wallpaper; and the furniture we chose. The bench by the window is part of our SORELLA Furniture line, which is also the result of female leadership and empowerment. The client came to us looking for a remodeled kitchen and living space for their single-family home. They wanted to create a sleek, modern aesthetic with a touch of bling. Built in the ‘70s, the home sits atop the San Rafael hills, giving it incredible views of the Bay. Our first priority: knock a few walls down to open the living space up to the dramatic landscape. Then, we sourced a kitchen set that made bling feel like an understatement—frameless, umbra Siematic cabinets with golden bronze hardware, matching open glass shelves, mirrored toe kicks, and a glitter backsplash grout. For further impact, we designed an island in a near-inverse color scheme—dark faux marble top, simple white walls, and a metallic border for a floating effect. Above this, we sourced distinctive glossy gold pendants that are hyper-modern but with a retro-influence. Finally, we completed the space by consulting on and sourcing elegant dining furniture that echoed the design language established, including a large white table with a uniquely artful stand.

The suite was gutted down to concrete and studs, taking down several walls in the process. The design was influenced by the character and materials of a converted New York loft, and using the vernacular West Coast Modern language, it was infused with warm wood accents, exposed concrete, and framed views of the North Shore mountains.

A silky and delicate effect changes how we consider the material by opening to new languages and expressive potential The essential feature given by Nevio Tellatin and the quality of the internal glass factory translate into a collection of shelves, cabinets and accessories of elegant furniture suspended from the floor and with absolute dimensional balance. The acid etched tempered glass takes on new forms and meanings becoming frame and finish at the same time. Top, sides, doors, total glass to create a sophisticated and ethereal image.
