This office was created for the Designer Showhouse, and our vision was to represent female empowerment. We wanted the office to reflect the life of a vibrant and empowered woman. Someone that’s busy, on the go, well-traveled, and full of energy. The space also reflected other aspects of this woman’s role as the head of a family and the rock that provides calm, peace, and comfort to everyone around her. We showcased these qualities with decor like the built-in library – busy, chaotic yet organized; the tone and color of the wallpaper; and the furniture we chose. The bench by the window is part of our SORELLA Furniture line, which is also the result of female leadership and empowerment. The Owners approached their new project with the thought that it should be a quiet addition, have an appropriate scale, and use the same architectural language as the existing house. What the Owners wanted was a more functional family space for their older children and needed a large kitchen and back entry for this original Myers Park home. The new family room would need to include the antique wood paneling the Owners had acquired. The new kitchen would need to incorporate antique wood beams, a large family table and access to a new pool deck. The back entry would need to have a place for sports bags, coats and charging station. A new landscape plan would be provided which would have a new pool requiring a renovation of an existing guest house. The kitchen plan does not include a kitchen island at the request of the Owners. They wanted to have a large freestanding table for everyone to gather around. The kitchen appliances needed to be integrated or hidden from view for clear countertop spaces. The large French doors would open out onto the new pool deck. The kitchen is connected to the main house through two doorways. The first doorway goes through to the renovated family space and the second doorway goes to a new butler’s pantry hall.

This Fort Worth residence, originally built in 1983, was reimagined for homeowners who wanted to remain in a home they loved while elevating it for the way they live today. Designed and built by USI Design & Remodeling, the project unfolded in three phases over an 8yr period, beginning with a complete primary bath reconfiguration that removed an oversized corner tub, reset the toilet location, and created a larger shower, improved circulation, and dedicated his-and-hers storage. How do you make an impact within a familiar project typology? For our first cafe for Spro Coffee Lab, and their flagship location, we combined a long-held vision of a cafe with a faceted ceiling, their red & white material palette, and the building owner’s desire for an iconic street presence into a unified, minimalist language of angles and facets that extends throughout the cafe. Overhead, a faceted soffit juts out dramatically over the service bar, the two objects mirroring each other’s footprints and satisfying Health Code requirements for a smooth, cleanable surface overhead. Concealing an egress corridor above that bisects the space, the soffit presents a bold visual gesture through the floor-to-ceiling glass walls of this corner space, beckoning passersby inside. The service bar points toward the entry, with a minimalist espresso-tap system as the focal point, and angled sections branching off in both directions to create seating and service areas and direct customer flow. Throughout the space, surfaces customers interact with are clad in chocolate-colored cork, providing a highly textured, tactile contrast to the smooth, white primary materials and complementing the bronze window system, red logos, and customer seating. The unfinished cork is durable and stain-resistant, resilient to the touch, provides acoustic dampening, and is highly sustainable. The result is a cafe that goes far beyond the project brief, creating a memorable experience and an iconic presence for the brand.
