The client wanted to update a kitchen originally renovated in the 1970s to better reflect the home’s historical character. The layout presented a few constraints: limited space for cabinetry, fixed window and door placements, and the need to maintain the exterior appearance due to Heritage Hill Historical Society guidelines. Additionally, the homeowners had some original cabinetry they wished to preserve or reuse, which added another layer of complexity. After exploring several layout options, we ultimately arrived at a design that balanced both functionality and historical integrity. Finishes and Flooring: Once the layout was finalized, we moved on to finish selections. The biggest challenge here was the flooring. While the client initially preferred a large-format tile, the age of the home and previous additions had left the floor uneven and unsuitable for such materials. Thankfully, the contractor was able to level the floor, making tile installation possible. Interestingly, the client had originally chosen a different tile, but due to long lead times, she had to make a last-minute change—and in doing so, discovered the stunning flooring you see in the photos. A happy accident that truly elevated the space! It was a pleasure working on this beautiful historic home—and even more so with such wonderful homeowners.

This foyer was originally a medium tan color with a heavy, dark chandelier. The client wanted to brighten up the space and create a more modern entry. The outdated chandelier was replaced with a chrome one with plenty of light. The warm wood floor was partially covered with a gray, blue and white rug. A gray upholstered bench with nailhead trim was added as a place to set bags and purses when entering. An antique wood cabinet that belonged to the client was painted in a pale gray Annie Sloan chalk paint and the hardware was updated to a brushed nickel. After previously remodeling all of this family’s upstairs bathrooms, we were honored to return and transform their kitchen. Their goal was clear: improve function, enhance flow, and create spaces that truly support how they live day to day. Once we receive the clients measurements of the space, we can begin creating a workable furniture arrangement. Our condo design for this executive client couple needed to be clean, modern, and sophisticated. Their main requirement and needs consisted of last minute entertaining and an emphasis placed on the gorgeous view.

A large bath was super important for this young family. Waterproofed and tiled everywhere to allow for maximum splash factor! The last minute addition of a hand held shower head proved genius for washing kids hair. And a window height, full length tiled shelf allows for toys, shampoos and of course, bubblebath.

Working with Atlantic Builders on this spec home in Rumson NJ, we created a custom kitchen with traditional elements offset with cleaner more current elements for a current, transitional space. This view is of the beaded faceframe walnut island features polished nickel cup pulls, an undermount sink with polished nickel faucet, a panelized dishwasher and decorative pilaster applied legs. Backed by the panelized subzero fridge flanked by countertop cabinets featuring true divided lite tall doors over pocketing doors that open to the countertop. These spaces, when doors are open, are highly functional working areas ideal for a landing area, mixer/baking station or coffee maker/coffee bar, and are easily shut to conceal anything behind. This create a gorgeous formal space, and is perfect for quick cleanup for last minute guests.

This young family was ready for a new, fresh and updated look to their house. They wanted a totally different color scheme and vibe and needed it finished within 6 weeks to be ready for a party of 100+ people they were hosting. I was happy to help! Even though many items that were selected were on back order and needed to be replaced, they kept their spirits high after countless returns and exchanges. Although art was being framed a day before the party and decor was being installed at the last minute, we pulled it together and accomplished our goal of finishing on time! The easiest (and most cost effective!) way to change the feeling of a space is with color, so that’s what I did. I swapped out the tired burgundy/browns for a clean palette of blues and greys. In the family room, a new custom sectional in a neutral grey took place of the brown leatherette sofa. A blue accent chair was placed in the room to brighten that corner. Patterned drapes were hung for privacy and added texture. Colorful artwork and a Moroccan print area rug livened up the space. Many of the accessories and decor throughout the home were sourced at Home Goods, Target and Ikea. The only piece of furniture that was kept in the entire home was the dining table, chairs and bar stools. The head chairs were swapped out for swanky upholstered navy ones with a nail head trim. A custom cornice to match the chairs was installed in the kitchen to hide the existing roller shades. The bar stools were reupholstered in the same fabric and some throw pillows for the sofa were made in the navy velvet as well. A Z Gallerie chandelier and blue pendants were installed for a little added drama. The fireplace got a makeover with a fresh coat of white paint and tile mosaic. Their daughter wanted a beach theme bedroom, so that’s what she got! New blue walls, drapes and accessories brought the ocean to this room. Their son has taken a liking to super heroes and Legos. A red, blue and yellow color palette with bold stripes helped to create a fun, playful space for him to enjoy his Legos and super heroes. The master bedroom got a new look with updated furnishings and colorful, yet soothing, bedding. New drapes, an area rug and accessories help pull together this peaceful sanctuary. The bathroom got a makeover with a new vanity, tile mosaic back splash, new lighting and tile on the floor and shower.

This guest bath was a last minute addition to this remodel project. We replaced the floors and tub, and then painted the existing cabinets SW Sea Serpent @sherwinwilliams New tile above the tub, quartz counters, lights, faucets and mirror gave this an updated look! The kitchen includes quartz countertops in Cambria Britannica. “The overall experience was great with Akram and Reico. The layout of the Reico showroom helped me to quickly decide what I liked and what I didn’t like for our new kitchen,” said the client. “Because we live in an older home, we had to make last minute decisions that were not in the original plans. Walls that were to come down could not, so we had to improvise with the layout of the cabinets.” “Akram was great at helping me envision a proper layout for our oddly shaped kitchen. We had met with other designers before meeting with Akram and he clearly understood our vision and was truly instrumental in bringing everything together. My favorite cabinet pieces are the drawers.
