For our client, who had previous experience working with architects, we enlarged, completely gutted and remodeled this Twin Peaks diamond in the rough. The top floor had a rear-sloping ceiling that cut off the amazing view, so our first task was to raise the roof so the great room had a uniformly high ceiling. Clerestory windows bring in light from all directions. In addition, we removed walls, combined rooms, and installed floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall sliding doors in sleek black aluminum at each floor to create generous rooms with expansive views. At the basement, we created a full-floor art studio flooded with light and with an en-suite bathroom for the artist-owner. New exterior decks, stairs and glass railings create outdoor living opportunities at three of the four levels. We designed modern open-riser stairs with glass railings to replace the existing cramped interior stairs. The kitchen features a 16 foot long island which also functions as a dining table. We designed a custom wall-to-wall bookcase in the family room as well as three sleek tiled fireplaces with integrated bookcases. The bathrooms are entirely new and feature floating vanities and a modern freestanding tub in the master. Clean detailing and luxurious, contemporary finishes complete the look.

The unique opportunity and challenge for the Joshua Tree project was to enable the architecture to prioritize views. Set in the valley between Mummy and Camelback mountains, two iconic landforms located in Paradise Valley, Arizona, this lot “has it all” regarding views. The challenge was answered with what we refer to as the desert pavilion.
This highly penetrated piece of architecture carefully maintains a one-room deep composition. This allows each space to leverage the majestic mountain views. The material palette is executed in a panelized massing composition. The home, spawned from mid-century modern DNA, opens seamlessly to exterior living spaces providing for the ultimate in indoor/outdoor living.

The scenic village of Mountain Brook Alabama, known for its hills, scenic trails and quiet tree-lined streets. The family found a charming traditional 2-story brick house that was newly built. The trick was to make it into a home.
How the family would move throughout the home on a daily basis was the guiding principle in creating dedicated spots for crafting, homework, two separate offices, family time and livable outdoor space that is used year round. Out of the chaos of relocation, an oasis emerged.
Leveraging a simple white color palette, layers of texture, organic materials and an occasional pop of color, a sense of polished comfort comes to life.

At our design and construction firm, we recently had the opportunity to work with a client who was looking to enhance their outdoor space with a custom exterior staircase. We collaborated closely with the client to understand their vision and preferences, incorporating elements such as, durable materials, and integrated lighting to create a design that exceeded their expectations. By leveraging our expertise in architectural design and construction, we were able to bring their vision to life in a way that not only met but surpassed their initial expectations. The result was a stunning staircase that not only seamlessly integrated with the existing landscape but also added a unique and stylish element to the client's outdoor space. This 600 SF, three car garage with a living unit above takes advantage of a wide site and a recent zoning change. Globeville continues to see investment and change due to the upcoming expansion of the National Western Complex. This was one of the first projects to leverage recent changes in the Denver Master Plan to allow ADU's in the area. The project consists of a shifting metal box with the void space becoming an entry. A perforated facade screen creates a unique character for the entry, both day and night. The glass garage door opens to expand the side yard and provide a covered option for outdoor events.

A fourth bedroom was re-purposed to become a unique "man cave' for the Mr. of the house. A high use space intended for working and leisure, the credenza, topped with a custom cherry wood ellipse, creates interest and puts everything within reach with lateral files, fully integrated electronics with remote control to lower the movie screen over the bay window. Offering a bold splash of red, the cork backed canvas invites documents or photos to be pinned up easily without damaging the walls. Display niches for art, collectibles, books and music add texture and leverage space. A Scottish color palette and flexible, state-of-the-art lighting finish this inviting, functional enclave.

Check out this killer outdoor space! This project was a challenge – the property pitch was causing drainage issues, with no usable space because of the constant flooding. We excavated and put in retaining walls with built-in drainage away from the house to alleviate the problem, making the space beautiful and usable.
The space features an Equinox louvered roof, custom kitchen with two grills (one charcoal, one gas), and a see-through fireplace that was used to leverage seating areas on both sides. The homeowners are thrilled with their new space!

About the Gainey Ranch Project by Adam Paul Schiff Designs: Located within the exclusive gated enclaves of the Gainey Ranch golf club community in Central Scottsdale, Arizona, this full-scale residential transformation showcases the pinnacle of high-end modern urban luxury. Our studio reimagined the interior architecture to maximize natural light, establishing an open-concept flow and a seamless indoor-outdoor transition to the private patio enclaves. Moving away from standard, predictable monochromatic modern palettes, the design leverages our signature mastery of color theory and rich material contrast. By weaving together sophisticated color consulting, architectural lighting design, and curated luxury textiles, we transformed this property into a warm, tranquil, and editorial-worthy contemporary estate tailored for the upscale Scottsdale lifestyle.

Tom Laurita contacted Mills Group seeking to update the look of his existing house. One significant feature that the original house lacked was a welcoming entry-way. We addressed this problem by adding a new door with sidelights and a front porch. The core structure of the house required a flat roof on the porch that would not interfere with the existing windows over the entry. We then added a new roof and siding that would update the exterior and create a new feel for the home. Stone was added to the garage and the one story portion of the house.
Finally, we designed the addition of a large covered back deck to round out the special enhancements. The completed design leveraged the desirable features of the original house and incorporated new elements that brought a balance and elegance to the overall design.
