Sadly an Asian bark fungus decimated the chestnut population of the US in the mid 1900’s and this once staple product in American construction was all but wiped out. These reclaimed floors prominently features worm holes, saw marks and sound cracks. A stylish loft in Greenwich Village we designed for a lovely young family. Adorned with artwork and unique woodwork, we gave this home a modern warmth. With tailored Holly Hunt and Dennis Miller furnishings, unique Bocci and Ralph Pucci lighting, and beautiful custom pieces, the result was a warm, textured, and sophisticated interior. Other features include a unique black fireplace surround, custom wood block room dividers, and a stunning Joel Perlman sculpture.

The Glenview Haus Craftsman Collection of front doors reflects the simplicity and quality of American arts and crafts movement, reflecting furniture makers such as Shaker, Stickley, and Mission. The solid wood doors showcase the smaller decorative, true-divided glass window with v-groove rustic panels, as well as alternatives like the flat Shaker style. The Craftsman Collection of front doors enhances the style of homes from bungalows and cottages through their square edges, flat panels, and optional art-glass designs.

Exterior forms are emphasized with glass and fiber-cement panels at the top level, soaring over and sheltering containers clad in tougher, leathery Corten Steel at the ground level. Exposed concrete walls and rock-filled gabion retaining was selected to anchor the partially day-lighted basement level and garages to the land. Materials were chosen to be low-maintenance, relatively inexpensive, and to contrast the volumes that express the interior spaces.

Inspiration for a modern white two-story exterior home remodel

Jewett Farms + Co’s Reclaimed Antique Black Walnut flooring has been sourced from turn of the century barns where it was used sporadically as joists, beams and girders. The timbers have a rich, deep chocolate hue with some lighter swirls and an overall sophisticated dark tone. Reclaimed black walnut displays some sound checking, mineral stains, occasional sound knots and nail holes alongside the swirling grain pattern. Jewett Farms + Co’s Reclaimed Antique Black Walnut wide plank flooring is available to be shipped throughout the United States from our New England headquarters. Black walnut is a versatile and beautiful wood. It finishes well, absorbs shock and shrinks very little when dried making it a prized wood for many applications from gun barrels to airplane propellers. Black walnut makes an outstanding hardwood floor but, because of its slow growth (at least 60 years for a reasonably large trunk), over harvesting has made this a rare species for flooring use. Black walnut is typically cut into very thin sheets and used as veneer. In fact it has become so difficult to get hold of that some states report numerous black walnut thefts each year.
