Our clients wanted to open up their living space for better flow so that they could entertain friends and family in a more functional space. They wanted to remove the wall separating the family room and the kitchen and completely gut the kitchen and start over. This also entailed removing the built-in bar area and breakfast nook.
They weren’t sure if they wanted to keep the skylight or if it would even work with the new layout or not. The various ceiling heights were also going to be a challenge in the family room and breakfast nook. They also wanted to explore options for a dry bar and/or a coffee bar area. They wanted to keep their new kitchen classic, simple, and clean, and they definitely needed design help to see what it was going to look like.
We removed the door to the hallway, closed off the pass-through to the wet bar, and moved two doors on the opposite end of the kitchen. Most importantly, we removed the large built-in bookcase wall between the kitchen and living room!
The entire kitchen was demolished, and the renovation began. Linen painted Waypoint cabinets were installed with Successi French Gold hardware. Our client picked out gorgeous Sea Pearl quartzite countertops, making this kitchen clean and sophisticated, with a subtle backsplash using Nabi Tundra 3x6 Ceramic Tile to create a slight contrast.
A white Platus 33” single-basin farmhouse fireclay kitchen sink with an apron front was put in, giving it that modern farmhouse feel. All new stainless steel Thermador appliances were installed, really making this kitchen pop!
To top it off, the skylight remained as-is and worked perfectly with the new layout, sitting directly above the center of the new large island. Two Darlana small lantern island pendants from Visual Comfort were hung to add a simple, decorative touch to the center of their new open kitchen.
New built-ins were installed in the dining area, with floor-to-ceiling cabinets on either end for extra storage and glass front cabinets in the center, above a gorgeous coffee bar. Our clients chose a Metrolume Chandelier from Shades of Light to hang over the dining room table and create a warm eating area.
This space went from totally closed off and not their style to a beautiful, classic kitchen that our clients absolutely love. Their boys and their dog, Rusty, also love their new, wide-open living space!

A fabulous antique Art Deco polychrome slip shade chandelier, dating from the 1920’s or 1930’s and made by Meletio Electrical Supply Co. This two-light chandelier begins with a polychrome canopy ornamented with flowers and leaves, descending in a chain to the chandelier body, which is ornamented with volutes and stylized leaves, featuring a nicely aged polychrome finish and ending in a dangling finial. The chandelier body has a green and pink slipper shade on either side, ornamented with stylized leaves repeating the motifs on the chandelier body. This light fixture is in excellent condition with no cracks or breaks to the glass, just the expected fleabites around the rims. The chandelier has been professionally rewired and comes with all the necessary attachments for modern installation. This chandelier is 12” wide, 12-1/4” tall (body only), and 30-3/4” long overall.

The main living level includes a large kitchen, dining, and living space, connected to two home offices by way of a bridge that extends across the double height entry. This bridge area acts as a gallery of light, allowing filtered light through the skylights above and down to the entry on the ground level.

A modern separate formal dining space. The floor is patterned using wood look tiles in a herringbone pattern. Bordering the tiles is a light hardwood looking floor. Tons of natural light is allowed in thanks to the double patio doors on either side of the dining room table. Artificial light is created with the understated yet impactful chandelier above the wooden dining table.

A unique kitchen design like no other! The white kitchen with a hidden fridge and freezer beautifully contrasts the dark tiled back splash and black kitchen island countertop. Attached is a built in medium wood table with seating for 6, with a unique black quartz waterfall boundary. Directly across is a fully stocked wet bar with a metallic tile finish that compliments the blue cabinetry. A geometric pattern frames the doorway into the formal dining room.

This stair photo is at the location of the old entry with the exterior wall of living room removed. You are looking back at the old dining room location and new kitchen/bar area.
This was a major remodel to an existing 1970 building. It was approximately 2300 sq. ft. but it was dated in style and function. The access was by a wood stair up to the street, with no garage and tight small rooms. The remodel and addition created a two car garage with storage and a dramatic entry with grand stair descending down to the existing living room area. Spaces where moved and changed to create a open plan living environment with a new kitchen, master suite, guest suite, and remodeling and adding to the lower level bedrooms with new baths on suite. The mechanical system was replaced and air conditioning was added as well as air treatment.
