Before remodeling, our client’s basement already housed a serving bar, but they wanted to level it up. Because of this, we added loads of appliances, including a fridge, dishwasher, ice maker, refrigerator drawers, and 2 beer taps for the ultimate serving station. Since we outfitted so many components into their island, we kept the quartz counters ultra-sleek with a waterfall edge.

The prior owner lived there from 1940s until she died at age of 98! The old home had loads of character and charm but was in pretty bad condition and desperately needed updates. The clients purchased the home a few years ago and did some work before they moved in (roof, HVAC, electrical) but decided to live in the house for a 6 months or so before embarking on the next renovation phase. I had worked with the clients previously on the wife's office space and a few projects in a previous home including the nursery design for their first child so they reached out when they were ready to start thinking about the interior renovations. The goal was to respect and enhance the historic architecture of the home but make the spaces more functional for this couple with two small kids. Clients were open to color and some more bold/unexpected design choices. The design style is updated traditional with some eclectic elements. An early design decision was to incorporate a dark colored french range which would be the focal point of the kitchen and to do dark high gloss lacquered cabinets in the adjacent coffee bar, and we ultimately went with dark green.

An expansive 9 foot seating area with loads of storage for all the homeowners alcohol hidden on the back side welcome friends and family to come for Happy Hour and linger into the night! Custom designed counter stools are super comfortable and are clad in Crypton fabric so no worries if red wine gets spilled.

This modern zen-like kitchen is finished in Columbia frameless rift white oak composite and walnut cabinets with accents of aluminum frame doors with frosted glass. The panel front doors on the refrigerator allow it to seamlessly blend into the pantry. The white striated tile back-splash goes from counter to ceiling. This kitchen is stocked full of personal details for this lovely retired couple living the dream in their beautiful country home. Terri loves to garden and can her harvested fruits and veggies and has filled her double door pantry full of her beloved canned creations. The couple has a large family to feed and when family comes to visit - the open concept kitchen, loads of storage and countertop space as well as giant kitchen island has transformed this space into the family gathering spot - lots of room for plenty of cooks in this kitchen! Tucked into the corner is a thoughtful kitchen office space. Possibly our favorite detail is the green custom painted island with inset bar sink, making this not only a great functional space but as requested by the homeowner, the island is an exact paint match to their dining room table that leads into the grand kitchen and ties everything together so beautifully.

Winner of the 2018 Tour of Homes Best Remodel, this whole house re-design of a 1963 Bennet & Johnson mid-century raised ranch home is a beautiful example of the magic we can weave through the application of more sustainable modern design principles to existing spaces. We worked closely with our client on extensive updates to create a modernized MCM gem. Extensive alterations include: - a completely redesigned floor plan to promote a more intuitive flow throughout - vaulted the ceilings over the great room to create an amazing entrance and feeling of inspired openness - redesigned entry and driveway to be more inviting and welcoming as well as to experientially set the mid-century modern stage - the removal of a visually disruptive load bearing central wall and chimney system that formerly partitioned the homes’ entry, dining, kitchen and living rooms from each other - added clerestory windows above the new kitchen to accentuate the new vaulted ceiling line and create a greater visual continuation of indoor to outdoor space - drastically increased the access to natural light by increasing window sizes and opening up the floor plan - placed natural wood elements throughout to provide a calming palette and cohesive Pacific Northwest feel - incorporated Universal Design principles to make the home Aging In Place ready with wide hallways and accessible spaces, including single-floor living if needed - moved and completely redesigned the stairway to work for the home’s occupants and be a part of the cohesive design aesthetic - mixed custom tile layouts with more traditional tiling to create fun and playful visual experiences - custom designed and sourced MCM specific elements such as the entry screen, cabinetry and lighting - development of the downstairs for potential future use by an assisted living caretaker - energy efficiency upgrades seamlessly woven in with much improved insulation, ductless mini splits and solar gain

The homeowners wanted to turn a transitional style house into a modern masterpiece. When you walked through the front door, there was a wall in between the dining and kitchen that closed off the space into “rooms” and created additional angles to the house in which the homeowners did not like. To create the open, modern feel, we decided to take down a non-load bearing wall that housed the original pantry and refrigerator. Now you can walk through the front door and the expansive kitchen, dining and sunken living room welcome you with a stunning view of the bay. The new cabinets were done in the Madrid door in a combination of Bistro and Walnut to create a two-toned look. We also installed a new backsplash and Quartzite countertop with a waterfall edge.
