The loft began as an empty attic space above a historic restaurant and was transformed by Carrie over the course of 2 years. VPWdesignsThis was a fun build and a delightful family to work and design with. The ladder is aesthetically pleasing and functional for their space, and also much safer than the previous loft access. The custom welded steel frame and alternating step support system combined with light colored, solid alder wood treads provide an open feel for the tight space.

UserWarm concrete floors, reclaimed wood flooring in the bathroom and office area and the 3Form divider/door create a calm and interesting space in this master loft. We left portions of the concrete formed walls and ceiling natural as well as some of the exposed brick. Behind the divider is the office and a stackable washer and dryer set into a custom closet with an antique door.

Maletz DesignThis Chelsea loft was transformed from a beat-up live-work space into a tranquil, light-filled home with oversized windows and high ceilings. The open floor plan created a new kitchen, dining area, and living room in one space, with two airy bedrooms and bathrooms at the other end of the layout. We used a pale, white oak flooring from LV Wood Floors throughout the space, and kept the color palette light and neutral. The kitchen features custom cabinetry with minimal hardware and a wide island with seating on one side. Appliances are Wolf and Subzero. Track lighting by Tech Lighting. Photo by Maletz Design

AIBD - American Institute of Building DesignThe client’s coastal New England roots inspired this Shingle style design for a lakefront lot. With a background in interior design, her ideas strongly influenced the process, presenting both challenge and reward in executing her exact vision. Vintage coastal style grounds a thoroughly modern open floor plan, designed to house a busy family with three active children. A primary focus was the kitchen, and more importantly, the butler’s pantry tucked behind it. Flowing logically from the garage entry and mudroom, and with two access points from the main kitchen, it fulfills the utilitarian functions of storage and prep, leaving the main kitchen free to shine as an integral part of the open living area.
