When it comes to choosing tiles and cladding, it’s hard to match the beauty and timelessness of natural stone.

The Width varies from 4" to 24". Perfect for any interior and exterior project. Grade 1, Natural Dolomitic Limestone for Wall use. Andrea wanted new light fixtures for her Dining Room, Foyer, and Den. She met with Design Actually in Conway, AR at the beginning of November. She really wanted new lighting for Thanksgiving to impress her family and to create an elegant mood for dinner. She showed Design Actually her Pinterest inspiration light fixtures. For the Den, she really wanted a Chihuly style light without the cost. She had searched for 2 years and could not find lighting she loved and was not sure how to make all of the fixtures flow well. After talking through Andrea's long-term aspiration for the room we decided to go with a neutral color light. A few days later we reviewed the selections and placed the order for the 4 lights. They all had to be assembled and it was intense because it was just a day before Thanksgiving! Our electrician said he felt like he needed to be wearing a tuxedo putting them together! The lights were installed one day before the Turkey was on the table! It was a success! Soon we will be adding wallpaper to the mirrored wall and a colorful sofa. We recently completed a custom 900 sq. ft. ADU in San Gabriel for a young family seeking to maximize the potential of their property with a smart, functional living space. Designed from the ground up, this unit features three bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, a bright and open-concept kitchen and living room, and a dedicated laundry area, all thoughtfully laid out to maximize the compact footprint.
Every inch of the space was carefully considered for modern family living. Large windows and vaulted ceilings were incorporated to enhance volume and natural light, while finishes were selected for both durability and style. The kitchen features clean lines and ample storage, creating a practical hub for day-to-day life. Throughout the ADU, we focused on high-function design that feels spacious, comfortable, and move-in ready.
This project reflects our commitment to delivering high-quality builds that meet the needs of growing families while adding long-term value to the property. We’re proud to have partnered with our clients to bring their vision to life.

This Escondido area homeowner came to Specialty Home Improvement looking to build a living space for an aging relative. ADUs, also often known as “granny flats” or “in-law suites” are perfect for aging-in-place, short or long-term rentals, or for extra space on your property to increase the value of your home.
The Challenge: Design an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) and living space for an elderly relative on a fixed budget. The space is needed to provide as much complete independence and privacy for the relative as possible. The ADU also needed to fit a specific area in the backyard that did not impede on the existing outdoor entertainment area or pool. Since the area of the build is located in a warmer area of San Diego’s North County, summertime power consumption and indoor temperature were a concern.
The Solution: For budget purposes, the shape of the unit was kept as a basic rectangle, since odd shapes and angles present challenges and additional costs to engineer and build. Since there was the possibility of guests or perhaps more than one person at a time using the ADU, the bathroom was given an independent entry. A closet was placed between the bathroom and the bedroom to help provide a sound buffer.
Floors were designed as polished concrete to help maintain a cooler ambient temperature during the summer months. Light colors on the cabinets, walls, and ceilings along with dual paned vinyl windows provide ample light, temperature control, and ventilation.

The lifestyle of living on Lake Washington is naturally inclined towards entertaining and outdoor living. However, the homeowners of this Kirkland residence found that occupying the exterior space was difficult in part because there were few spaces that were protected from the harsh western exposure. They longed for a covered patio and more.
Conversations and designs focused on creating a four-season space that addressed the high-exposure demands of the site while also providing a comfortable space to relax and entertain.
The concept of extending the existing second floor level deck as a way to provide protection emerged as an early solution in the process. With the use of natural stone pavers and treads, the existing lower level patio was nearly doubled in usable area with different zones for intimate or large gatherings. The stone treads transition gracefully into the landscaped portion of the site.
The deck above was expanded upon and resurfaced with a low maintenance porcelain pedestal paver system. A glass panel railing is constructed without a top rail, which allows for views of the water to remain unobstructed while sitting or standing.
A custom outdoor fireplace was designed to act as a central focal point and to provide definition for the gathering spaces. The concrete mass is punctured through with a two-way fireplace, providing visual and bodily warmth for
year-round comfort and use of the space.
An updated, modernized outdoor kitchen was a necessity for larger gatherings. Durable yet elegant surfaces were required for this high use area. Cabinetry incorporates Parklex wood panels that are sustainably sourced and finished for long-term durability. Countertops and backsplash were comprised of an exterior-grade porcelain slab. Stainless steel appliances complete a low maintenance workspace.
Energy efficient products were mindful components of this project. New and dimmable LED recessed and indirect lighting provides illumination for entertaining late into the night. Tread lighting provides a beacon of light for returning boaters coming in from the lake.
The homeowner shared their pleasure with their new spaces commenting that the design seamlessly integrates with the existing house. They find themselves enjoying and using their outdoor spaces more thoroughly and on a daily basis. The surprise for them was the unintended additional space resulting from the expanded deck above.

The Rustico collection was inspired by old Tuscan furniture and incorporates contemporary lines and harkens to a time gone by when sturdy oak furniture was hand-hewn and lasted a lifetime. This collection showcases our new brushed finish technique, which was inspired by the natural drift process resulting from years of use. The brushed finishing process, called 'decape', opens the pores of the oak allowing us to deposit a white patina in its grooves, imparting a mild 'weathered' look. This unisex collection is accented by an open mortise & tenon detail and is offered in three new finishes - owl, mink, and sugar cane, as well as our classic white. The Rustico "5-in-1" Convertible Crib is highlighted by chunky top moldings with an open mortise & tenon detail, an elegantly framed back panel and one-piece corner posts. It offers long term value with five configurations: crib, toddler bed, daybed, double bed headboard and complete double bed. For a softer, elegant look you can chose the Rustico "5-in-1" Convertible with the Upholstered Headboard Panel. The headboard panel features three upholstered inserts which are available in our sturdy 100,000 double rub tested fabric of either fog linen weave or talc linen weave. This 100% solid oak collection has a refined simplicity which easily meshes with both contemporary and classic decor and is sure to provide many years of functionality and enjoyment.
