This project began as a kitchen and master bath remodel but evolved into a full house transformation with an Industrial Chic aesthetic. The goal was to achieve an industrial style without leaning too masculine, fulfilling the client’s desire for dark stained cabinetry. To balance the bold cabinets, we introduced bright quartz countertops and a marble hexagon mosaic backsplash. Cali Bamboo Mendocino Oak floors complemented the cabinetry without overpowering it, and open shelves, fireplace mantle, and staircase posts were all carefully stained to match, creating a cohesive flow throughout the home. In the master bath, the vanity design allowed both existing windows to remain in place, with the center sink raised to a more comfortable height. Thoughtfully selected materials and finishes tie the entire home together seamlessly.

This young family had just moved to Washington State and was looking to create a long term home out of the house they purchased. One of the goals was to create a grand entryway where the living room was previously, increase master bathroom size and function throughout. We began by creating a new layout which revised the front living room by adding about 100 sqft to the front, expanding the office, relocating a powder bathroom, expanding the kitchen footprint, and entirely reconfiguring the master bathroom and bedroom. From there, we honed in on materials that felt welcoming and warm while making sure to keep the space nice and bright as the home is surrounded by evergreens. The happy family is now able to enjoy their modified space which suites their needs better than the previous layout.

Coconut Grove is Southwest of Miami beach near coral gables and south of downtown. It’s a very lush and charming neighborhood. It’s one of the oldest neighborhoods and is protected historically. It hugs the shoreline of Biscayne Bay. The 10,000sft project was originally built
17 years ago and was purchased as a vacation home. Prior to the renovation the owners could not get past all the brown. He sails and they have a big extended family with 6 kids in between them. The clients wanted a comfortable and causal vibe where nothing is too precious. They wanted to be able to sit on anything in a bathing suit. KitchenLab interiors used lots of linen and indoor/outdoor fabrics to ensure durability. Much of the house is outside with a covered logia.
The design doctor ordered the 1st prescription for the house- retooling but not gutting. The clients wanted to be living and functioning in the home by November 1st with permits the construction began in August. The KitchenLab Interiors (KLI) team began design in May so it was a tight timeline! KLI phased the project and did a partial renovation on all guest baths. They waited to do the master bath until May. The home includes 7 bathrooms + the master. All existing plumbing fixtures were Waterworks so KLI kept those along with some tile but brought in Tabarka tile. The designers wanted to bring in vintage hacienda Spanish with a small European influence- the opposite of Miami modern. One of the ways they were able to accomplish this was with terracotta flooring that has patina. KLI set out to create a boutique hotel where each bath is similar but different. Every detail was designed with the guest in mind- they even designed a place for suitcases.

It began ten years ago when the owners bought their “forever” home. Our first remodeling project created a cozy, comfortable second-floor master bedroom with full bath.
Six years ago, we remodeled the basement with a big, warm family room and fireplace, updated laundry and utility room, and a custom wet bar. Read the whole story.
Two years ago, we extended the first floor into the backyard and created a large, open kitchen/dining/family space. We removed the existing bath and added a roomy ¾ bath with shower. Two existing first-floor bedrooms were updated as well. The second floor was expanded toward the backyard creating a larger master suite. The remodel features custom dormers and skylights, with a total exterior update. The second floor was also expanded to the side to make room for a totally new full bath. All this work doubled the home's square footage and transformed their house into a comfortable, full featured four-bedroom home.

The clients wish for vanities opposite each other and hidden storage for towels and toiletries was tricky but accomplished. We began the planning stage with 3D renderings of the space so the client could get a visual of the space. We wanted a classic style cabinet and a neutral color palette that would be timeless. The added appeal in this space is the dramatic rectangular ceiling detail with arched soffits. The result is a peaceful calming space with a perfect view of the water.

It can be difficult to renovate the one room in the house where a client feels most at ease but, that is what was needed for my client's Master Suite. I began by replacing the old wall-to-wall carpet with beautiful hardwood floors that are finished with a low-sheen, water-based polyurethane, which was low-odor and cured quickly so that my client could get back into their bedroom sooner.
Wall and ceiling colors were updated with fresh and contemporary new tones.
Little by little, the room transformed into something new, yet familiar.

Complete Master Bathroom remodel! We began by removing every surface from floor to ceiling including the shower/tub combo to enable us to create a zero-threshold walk-in shower. We then re placed the window with a new obscure rain glass. The vanity cabinets are a cool grey shaker style cabinet topped with a subtle Pegasus Quartz and a Waterfall edge leading into the shower. The shower wall tile is a 12x24 Themar Bianco Lasa with Soft Grey brush strokes throughout. The featured Herringbone wall connects to the shower using the 3x12 Themar Bianco Lasa tile. We even added a little Herringbone detail to the custom soap niche inside the shower. For the shower floor, we installed a flat pebble that created a spa like escape! This bathroom encompasses all neutral earth tones which you can see through the solid panel of clear glass that is all the way to the ceiling. For the proportion of the space, we used a skinny 4x40 Savanna Milk wood look tile flooring for the main area. Finally, the bathroom is completed with chrome fixtures such as a flush mounted rain head, shower head and wand, two single hole faucets and last but not least… those gorgeous pendant lights above the vanity!

The interior renovation began with the master bath, which included a glass-partitioned bathtub accented by glass shelving. A drop ceiling that is highlighted by recessed lighting fixtures and finished with minimal trim. The half wall mirror houses a hidden large plasma TV wall screen with audio/visual and remote control elements. The sleek white marble flooring in the hallway leads to a refinished deco staircase and handrail. “Museum” quality paint throughout and refined custom-millwork calls attention to the grand feel of the space.
On the exterior, Empire City Construction repointed new mortar joints (cement lines) and replaced decaying bricks in the archways and walls of the corner patio. Preserving the classic hexagon bays and European style arches in this setback terrace of the penthouse suite.
