The Laurel was a project that required a rigorous lesson in southern architectural vernacular. The site being located in the hot climate of the Carolina shoreline, the client was eager to capture cross breezes and utilize outdoor entertainment spaces. The home was designed with three covered porches, one partially covered courtyard, and one screened porch, all accessed by way of French doors and extra tall double-hung windows. The open main level floor plan centers on common livings spaces, while still leaving room for a luxurious master suite. The upstairs loft includes two individual bed and bath suites, providing ample room for guests. Native materials were used in construction, including a metal roof and local timber.

A custom headboard wall features an upholstered leather design
with a lit display niche exhibiting the clients glass sculpture collection.
The surrounding figured Anigre wood panels, provide additional
storage. The floating night tables have curved proud drawer panels
finished in a satin lacquer to complement the room’s dresser. Stainless
steel sconces serve as visual interest, as well as functional reading lights.

TVL Creative: " Up in the master bathroom, elegance abounds. Using the same footprint, we upgraded everything in this space to reflect the client's desire for a more bright, patterned and pretty space. Starting at the entry, we installed a custom reclaimed plank barn door with bold large format hardware from Rustica Hardware. In the bathroom, the custom slate blue vanity from Tharp Cabinet Company is an eye catching statement piece. This is paired with gorgeous hardware from Amerock, vessel sinks from Kohler, and Purist faucets also from Kohler."

We built a shower stall that provides privacy yet allows the client to feel connected to the outdoors with this full length frosted glass wall. 2x4 cypress rainscreen breaks up the occupants silhouette while in the shower.

Client had an existing deck and pergola off of the back of their home that was not properly built in the original construction. This caused sagging of some of the support beams and overall an unsafe structure.
In order to give this a thicker and better look, we used 6X6 beams (instead of 4x4's) and properly bolted all members so that the structure did not move.

Transforming this small bathroom into a wheelchair accessible retreat was no easy task. Incorporating unattractive grab bars and making them look seamless was the goal. A floating vanity / countertop allows for roll up accessibility and the live edge of the granite countertops make if feel luxurious. Double sinks for his and hers sides plus medicine cabinet storage helped for this minimal feel of neutrals and breathability. The barn door opens for wheelchair movement but can be closed for the perfect amount of privacy.

Our clients purchased this 1950 ranch style cottage knowing it needed to be updated. They fell in love with the location, being within walking distance to White Rock Lake. They wanted to redesign the layout of the house to improve the flow and function of the spaces while maintaining a cozy feel. They wanted to explore the idea of opening up the kitchen and possibly even relocating it. A laundry room and mudroom space needed to be added to that space, as well. Both bathrooms needed a complete update and they wanted to enlarge the master bath if possible, to have a double vanity and more efficient storage. With two small boys and one on the way, they ideally wanted to add a 3rd bedroom to the house within the existing footprint but were open to possibly designing an addition, if that wasn’t possible.
In the end, we gave them everything they wanted, without having to put an addition on to the home. They absolutely love the openness of their new kitchen and living spaces and we even added a small bar! They have their much-needed laundry room and mudroom off the back patio, so their “drop zone” is out of the way. We were able to add storage and double vanity to the master bathroom by enclosing what used to be a coat closet near the entryway and using that sq. ft. in the bathroom. The functionality of this house has completely changed and has definitely changed the lives of our clients for the better!

We wanted our client's bedroom to feel masculine and cozy, while enhancing the modern architecture of the space. We kept the space feeling clean and relaxing by keeping a neutral palette and adding just a few accents of bold color in the chair and bed pillow. The combination of natural woods and soft textures help make the space feel cozy and inviting, which balances nicely with the metal accents that keep it modern and fresh.

Ideally, an ensuite bathroom is a luxurious extension of your bedroom – but for these
clients, the space felt dated. We relocated all the fixtures. These changes allowed us to add a larger vanity, a tall linen storage cabinet, and a doubled-in-size make-up area (which the client dubbed “her new favourite seat in the house”). Large vintage-inspired tiles, floating rustic shelves, and sleek grey cabinets inject style; a steam shower and modern fixtures add another layer of luxe.

The shower fixtures here were customized with a 3 way diverter to allow the client to use either the tub spout, handheld, or rain head or a combo of the rain head and handheld! The built in shampoo niche with carrara marble accents serves as storage for soap and shampoo.
