After meeting with Mark, we determined that the goal of his remodel was that he wanted to convert his typical 2000s master bath into a transitional and functional area and get more storage. The standard cultured marble walls and soaking tub wasn’t exactly what he wanted any longer. After learning about his style, we determined a large format tile and larger base cabinets would do the trick. From the white cabinetry, and striking vein large format tile and deep soaking tub. The white shaker cabinets are for Sollid Cabinetry. We minimized the sink bases so that Mark could control what is under those cabinets, however do you see those drawer bases? They are large enough to hold anything you desire. The two-toned shower and tub deck tile feature a striking vein that appears to go on for days. The wall tiles size is a large format tile measuring at 24X48. This size allows for two great design elements. The first, allowing the vein to be continuous. Second, less wall grout. A total of 9 tiles used on the walls. To accentuate this vein we installed an oversized niche allows for a spotlight for the pebble mosaic to be a feature on the wall and the shower pan. The tub deck and curb tiles are from Arizona Tile as well. It is the Cemento Rasato – Bianco 12X24. By pairing these tiles together, it supports the wall tile and allows that to be the star of the show. The bathroom floor is Frassino, from the collection of Porta Nouva from Arizona Tile. Laid in a horizontal random offset. This selection pops the whites and grounds the elements. This bathroom features a Calcatta quartz countertops that showcase a slight vein that supports the wall tile. The bathroom accessories, lighting fixtures and faucets are all brushed nickel.

Master suite addition to an existing 20's Spanish home in the heart of Sherman Oaks, approx. 300+ sq. added to this 1300sq. home to provide the needed master bedroom suite. the large 14' by 14' bedroom has a 1 lite French door to the back yard and a large window allowing much needed natural light, the new hardwood floors were matched to the existing wood flooring of the house, a Spanish style arch was done at the entrance to the master bedroom to conform with the rest of the architectural style of the home. The master bathroom on the other hand was designed with a Scandinavian style mixed with Modern wall mounted toilet to preserve space and to allow a clean look, an amazing gloss finish freestanding vanity unit boasting wall mounted faucets and a whole wall tiled with 2x10 subway tile in a herringbone pattern. For the floor tile we used 8x8 hand painted cement tile laid in a pattern pre determined prior to installation. The wall mounted toilet has a huge open niche above it with a marble shelf to be used for decoration. The huge shower boasts 2x10 herringbone pattern subway tile, a side to side niche with a marble shelf, the same marble material was also used for the shower step to give a clean look and act as a trim between the 8x8 cement tiles and the bark hex tile in the shower pan. Notice the hidden drain in the center with tile inserts and the great modern plumbing fixtures in an old work antique bronze finish. A walk-in closet was constructed as well to allow the much needed storage space.

Master Bedroom with views to the mountain. When the old ceiling was removed as part of the renovation the existing roof was revealed and refinished as part of the overall aesthetic. The owner of this Devil’s Glen Ski Resort chalet was determined to honour the original structure built by his father. At the same time, a growing family created the need for an amplified space. The design for the enlarged chalet attempts to incorporate proportions and angles from the original craftsman styled structure while simultaneously taking cues from the challenging mountain site. Stonework and timber beams create a framework for expansive glazing that affords sweeping views to the mountain, snow and sky. As a result, a new generation of skiers is engaged with the mountain and it’s community in the same way the owner’s father provided him.

I finally remodeled my bathrooms in 2017. This is my master bathroom and I love it. Love the storage tower that hides everything, the large shower and my choice of stylish but simple materials in several shades of gray.

Our clients loved this tree-lined older, established neighborhood. They bought a house there that needed substantial renovations as it probably had not been updated in 30-40 years. They contacted Shapiro & Co in hopes that they would be able to transition an older, outdated house to a home that retained its character but was redesigned to meet the current needs of the family. The house foyer was very small and not accomodating for visitors so the architects relocated the entry and added a welcoming front porch. After an assessment of the existing conditions, it was determined that the kitchen, while serving its purpose in the 1940s, was completely out of character and in the wrong location for a modern family's needs. So the architects relocated and created an entirely new kitchen, and family and dining spaces. As indicative of homes in the ’40s and '50s, the master bedroom and bathroom were very small and not meeting current needs. Therefore we repurposed one bedroom into the master bath and dressing area and reorganized and enlarged the master bedroom area. The original second-floor plan was very small and confining. We captured some attic space and were able to create two bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and a central common room for the children. By a sensitive assessment of the client’s needs and while maintaining the charm of the home, we were able to completely renovate and enlarge the house while keeping it in context with the beautiful neighborhood. The main goal for the owners of this 1926 house was an addition to gain more closet space near their main floor master bedroom. During the design stage, they also decided to create a zen home office for one of the owner’s reiki business that had direct access for visitors from the backyard, rather than walking through the house. Painted stucco was used on the new addition to match a previously added sunroom at the other side of the house. Matching windows were also added. The proposed design featured a simple shed roof at the side addition and a hip roof at the front and back. View of addition from the back of the house – the French doors lead into the office. We extended the existing flagstone patio to the addition and office entry. In assessing the feasibility of the project, the first thing the designer did was to check the zoning regulations. After a thorough study, it was determined that a 7-foot side addition was possible. This 7-foot addition was adequate for a built-in cabinetry storage and a new powder room. The design proposal also included a rear wraparound 13ftx13ft home office, that gave the existing rear patio a courtyard feel. The proposed addition was accessed from both the existing master bedroom and another bedroom that was converted into a family/ TV room. The main access to the home office addition was through the backyard.
