This downtown home was renovated with the goal of staying with in the existing footprint. Creating a functional master bath and closet became a welcomed challenge. The idea was to create the feeling of a master closet with a bathroom in it and not the other way around. Low ceiling, and accent lighting helped create a warn inviting space. This cozy lake cottage skillfully incorporates a number of features that would normally be restricted to a larger home design. A glance of the exterior reveals a simple story and a half gable running the length of the home, enveloping the majority of the interior spaces. To the rear, a pair of gables with copper roofing flanks a covered dining area that connects to a screened porch. Inside, a linear foyer reveals a generous staircase with cascading landing. Further back, a centrally placed kitchen is connected to all of the other main level entertaining spaces through expansive cased openings. A private study serves as the perfect buffer between the homes master suite and living room. Despite its small footprint, the master suite manages to incorporate several closets, built-ins, and adjacent master bath complete with a soaker tub flanked by separate enclosures for shower and water closet. Upstairs, a generous double vanity bathroom is shared by a bunkroom, exercise space, and private bedroom. The bunkroom is configured to provide sleeping accommodations for up to 4 people. The rear facing exercise has great views of the rear yard through a set of windows that overlook the copper roof of the screened porch below. In the bedroom we created the feel of the ocean, with just the right blue; white and natural linen bedding, and natural wood furnishing. The drapes were custom made with blackout lining to wrap around the room to cover up the blinds in this room. Remember we couldn’t remove them, but they were not dark enough. To keep the beachy look a very natural looking fabric with a simmer was selected but you can’t see in the photo.

We wanted our client's bedroom to feel masculine and cozy, while enhancing the modern architecture of the space. We kept the space feeling clean and relaxing by keeping a neutral palette and adding just a few accents of bold color in the chair and bed pillow. The combination of natural woods and soft textures help make the space feel cozy and inviting, which balances nicely with the metal accents that keep it modern and fresh. Photos by Matthew Williams

The goal of this project was to update the outdated master bathroom to better meet the homeowners design tastes and the style of the rest of this foothills home, as well as update all the doors on the first floor, and create a contemporary mud room and staircase to the basement. The homeowners wanted a master suite that had a masculine feel, incorporated elements of black steel, wood, and contrast with clean white tiles and counter-tops and helped their long and skinny layout feel larger/ make better use of the space they have. They also wanted a more spacious and luxurious shower with water temperature control. A large window that existed above the original soaking tub offered spectacular views down into Boulder valley and it was important to keep this element in the updated design. However, privacy was also very important. Therefore, a custom-built powder coated steel shelf, was created to provide privacy blocking, add storage, and add a contrasting design element to the white wall tiles. Black honeycomb floor tiles, new black walnut cabinetry, contemporary wall paper, a floor to ceiling glass shower wall, and updated fixtures elevated the space and gave the clients exactly the look and feel that they wanted. Unique custom metal design elements can be found throughout the new spaces (shower, mud room bench and shelving, and staircase railings and guardrails), and give this home the contemporary feel that the homeowners desired.
