To maintain matrimonial harmony, it was time to transform the primary bathroom into a room built for two with two sinks being at the top of the needs list (the original sink and dinky mirror were located between the two exterior windows). Finishes throughout were also ready for an update. The bathroom was gutted which provided an opportunity to open up the cave like shower and install the much-desired dual sinks and bidet toilet. The challenge was how to place mirrors and lighting for each sink which were centered on the exterior windows. The exterior wall framing, and the windows prohibited the placement of both a light fixture and a mirror above the sink(s). To remedy this issue, the casing on either side of the window was removed and wiring for lights was installed. The casing was bored to allow the wiring to run through to the surface mounted Twiggy LED lights (by Edge Lighting) which are hinged to allow the user to move the lights in for full illumination of the face. The mirrors, in frames to match the cabinetry, where then mounted on a barn door track installed above the window frame. The mirrors not only clear the Twiggy lights but can be moved to the left of their original location to allow the natural light from the windows to pour through. To round out the new design, more and better organized storage and a rear grooming mirror were incorporated in this small, narrow bathroom.

These customers were fun to work with. The husband like to shower, and the wife like to bathe, both had to work in the morning, and attend to there morning rituals at the same time. This often caused issues for them, so what did they do... Remodeled there Master bath with a side by side shower and whirlpool bath tub! That's compromise! This family and had been living in their 1917 Tangletown neighborhood, Minneapolis home for over two years and it wasn’t meeting their needs. The lack of AC in the bathroom was an issue, the bathtub leaked frequently, and their lack of a shower made it difficult for them to use the space well. After researching Design/Build firms, they came to Castle on the recommendations from others. Wanting a clean “canvas” to work with, Castle removed all the flooring, plaster walls, tiles, plumbing and electrical fixtures. We replaced the existing window with a beautiful Marvin Integrity window with privacy glass to match the rest of the home. A bath fan was added as well as a much smaller radiator. Castle installed a new cast iron bathtub, tub filler, hand shower, new custom vanity from the Woodshop of Avon with Cambria Weybourne countertop and a recessed medicine cabinet. Wall sconces from Creative lighting add personality to the space. The entire space feels charming with all new traditional black and white hexagon floor tile, tiled shower niche, white subway tile bath tub surround, tile wainscoting and custom shelves above the toilet. Just outside the bathroom, Castle also installed an attic access ladder in their hallway, that is not only functional, but aesthetically pleasing. Completed in 2017, this project features midcentury modern interiors with copper, geometric, and moody accents. The design was driven by the client's attraction to a grey, copper, brass, and navy palette, which is featured in three different wallpapers throughout the home. As such, the townhouse incorporates the homeowner's love of angular lines, copper, and marble finishes. The builder-specified kitchen underwent a makeover to incorporate copper lighting fixtures, reclaimed wood island, and modern hardware. In the master bedroom, the wallpaper behind the bed achieves a moody and masculine atmosphere in this elegant "boutique-hotel-like" room. The children's room is a combination of midcentury modern furniture with repetitive robot motifs that the entire family loves. Like in children's space, our goal was to make the home both fun, modern, and timeless for the family to grow into. This project has been featured in Austin Home Magazine, Resource 2018 Issue.

This project was nearly a complete gut renovation of an existing Victorian built in the 1890’s. We did save or rebuild major elements such as the exterior millwork, ornate entry stair and stained glass windows. An addition to the south side of the house integrated the rooflines and exterior details to create a seamless blend between the old and new. The goal of the project was to modernize the house and interior layout while still keeping the feel of a traditional home. Major elements in the scope included a completely new open kitchen, expanded living room, new master bedroom and bath suite, all new family baths and powder room. The renovation also included a library to house the owner’s extensive book collection as well as a basement workout and family room area. One primary request of the owners was to rid the house of a bat infestation problem due to poorly detailed roof vents. Once we rebuilt the roof soffits and provided new insulation for the house, the bat issue was resolved.

Classic Cherry Cabinetry by Echelon in the Langdon door with mocha finish was chosen for the generous, new double vanity and tub skirt. Storage is not an issue with this vanity design. A large neo angle shower and attached tub deck with tiled walls and granite capped surfaces looks stunning. Challenge: Our clients wanted to modernize the look of their 1997 home, and update all electrical and plumbing infrastructure. Structural issues were apparent at the onset of the project with missing bearing points and beams that should have been incorporated into the original build. Solution: The work started with a complete strip out of the interior. Existing finishes, appliances, kitchen, bathrooms, flooring, electrical, plumbing, doors and frames, heating systems, all trim, drywall, insulation and vapour barrier we all removed. This left a bare wood frame shell which required some tricky structural changes to open up the interior necessitating load transfer modifications and additional foundations. The main stair was widened to create a luxurious ascent to the master bedroom overlooking the golf course. All bathrooms were fully replaced with a new kitchen designed to be open to the dining room and living room. The new interior finishes, and the essential design thereof, came together smoothly with all trades meeting agreed time frames and prices. We had a great time working with the client throughout the project. Communication was strong during the course of construction which resulted in a renovation that exceeded the client’s criteria and that also met our exacting level of quality.
