The owners of this remodel desired a refreshing new master bathroom. The original layout was poorly designed with minimal storage, a small shower, a rarely used bathtub and a water closet that was difficult to access. The old vanity flanked a curved wall of glass block (the main challenge with this space) which didn’t allow for mirrors and was always cluttered because of limited storage. The original bathroom in this Toronto home consisted of both a small shower and a large corner bath. And although the number of windows with southern and western exposure added considerable light to the space, it contributed to limitations with placement of the double vanity. Dave and Jenni decided to add a larger double vanity with an adjacent infrared built in sauna, along with a stand up shower. The style of the bathroom was to be kept clean and simple and tile on the majority of wall surfaces achieved this requirement. The most notable feature of the bathroom is the built-in shelving above the sauna, which was created to avoid a large obtrusive flat surface above it, and instead add space for ornamentation and towels. Custom build for a client who loves the brown tones. It was a challenge to work with a limited color pallet on this build. Having to work around the trim, cabinets, and wall colors within a similar color pallet was challenging in that the designer didn't want to have these items fighting against the lighting fixtures, plumbing fixtures, or even the other materials such as tile and hardwood. We also had the same challenge on the exterior with the brick, stone, roofing, and trim items. The home turned out to be a beauty, but the challenge of working with a set color pallet was one that we had not had to deal with before this build. Philip Slowiak

The clients shared with us an inspiration picture of a white marble bathroom with clean lines and elegant feel. Their current master bathroom was far from elegant. With a somewhat limited budget, the goal was to create a walk-in shower, additional storage and elegant feel without having to change much of the footprint. To have the look of a marble bath without the high price tag we used on the floor and walls a durable porcelain tile with a realistic Carrara marble look makes this upscale bathroom a breeze to maintain. It also compliments the real Carrara marble countertop perfectly. A vanity with dual sinks was installed. On each side of the vanity is ample cabinet and drawer storage. This bathroom utilized all the storage space possible, while still having an open feel and flow. This master bath now has clean lines, delicate fixtures and the look of high end materials without the high end price-tag. The result is an elegant bathroom that they enjoy spending time and relaxing in.

Kansas City Interior Designer, Arlene Ladegaard of Design Connection, Inc. carefully transforms this Master Bedroom from a dated 1960’s throwback, heavy with oak and outdated furnishings, into a modern and sophisticated suite. On the floors, beautiful gray plush carpet takes on a beautiful sheen, while the walls are painted in a serene gray with updated white trim. Furnishings consist of a gorgeous custom upholstered bed in a gray linen fabric with polished nickel nail head. Because space was limited for bedside tables, Ladegaard selected two narrow, but handsome, dark wood side chests that complement the wood tones throughout the house. On each bedside chest is an opulent glass table lamp that offers a soft glow and supports reading from the bed. Adjacent to the bed is a sitting area that opens to a beautiful terrace, and that hosts two handsome gray swivel chairs and an ottoman. Artwork in the room was carefully selected to suit the peacefulness of the room, and to add visual interest. Design Connection Inc. provided for this project: space plans, elevations, lighting, material selections, wallpaper, bedding, window treatments, furniture, carpet, and project management during the remodel.

This master has limited space and my client NEEDED a sitting area for TV viewing and computer/ iPad time. Rather than using a small chair I introduced a full size upholstered comfy chair and ottoman. It gives weight and importance to the new " sitting area" . This gave some importance to an otherwise overlooked corner of the master. Layered art modernizes the look. You can never go wrong with a white duvet, paired with taupe it's subtle but mighty.

This older couple have been residing in their one level custom home since the early 80’s. The Master bathroom old design was dysfunctional, steps in bathroom were dangerous for their age, the deck mounted tub took too much floor space, vanity space was limited. Swing doors were cutting accessibility for them. The wanted to open up the space and bring this old dragged of bathroom into a new era of design and functionality. Planned a double sided fireplace in front of the tub area, taking out all multi-level shower and tub area, enlarged the shower stall and moved the new free standing tub directly under the wall of glass blocks, We have taken advantage of tall cathedral ceiling and added new ceiling and recess lights to brighten this space. The toilet area was enclosed with a frost glass pocket and made more room for larger vanity and counter space, given them lots of storage, small closets were taken out and replaced with larger linen cabinetry. We have relocated the toilet to open up large portion of back wall, now home for his vanity space. The shower was moved to the corner, taking some space form adjacent closet. Customer framed mirror, sconce lighting has taken over the left side of pantry, will large scale tile (and heated floor) this master bathroom transformation has given them a whole new life. Carefully selected stain on cabinetry complimenting the stone top and porcelain floor and wall tiles were all a big part of this transformation. The custom closet system has given them a much-needed space for their clothing and all their seasonal clothes. Now more than ever life in their master suite is pleasurable and relaxing.
