http://www.A dramatic chalet made of steel and glass. Designed by Sandler-Kilburn Architects, it is awe inspiring in its exquisitely modern reincarnation. Custom walnut cabinets frame the kitchen, a Tulikivi soapstone fireplace separates the space, a stainless steel Japanese soaking tub anchors the master suite. For the car aficionado or artist, the steel and glass garage is a delight and has a separate meter for gas and water. Set on just over an acre of natural wooded beauty adjacent to Mirrormont.

Bedroom - master vinyl floor and gray floor bedroom idea in DC Metro with gray walls and no fireplace

This is a case study of a client living in Hong Kong. The client's residence is a 100-square-meter home. The client approached us with a requirement to find suitable lighting fixtures for their entire house. The home decor style combines modern design with a mix of natural wood and Scandinavian influences. The client wanted to select different pendant lights for each room - the living room, dining room, two bedrooms, and balcony. They wished for these pendant lights to perfectly match the style and complement each room, while also being budget-friendly.
For the living room, the client desired a touch of Chinese-style wooden accents. Hence, we selected a bamboo-woven pendant light with a Chinese design. As for the balcony, the client wanted a consistent style with the living room, so we chose a double-layered bamboo-woven pendant light. For the two bedrooms, the master bedroom leaned towards a predominantly white color scheme, so we opted for a white Scandinavian-style pendant light. The second bedroom had a focus on natural wood, so we selected a wooden pumpkin-shaped pendant light. For the dining room, which had an overall modern white theme, we chose a white Macaron-style PH5 pendant light.
Interestingly, during the process of selecting lighting fixtures, the client also became interested in our multifunctional robot-inspired five-layered dressing table. They ultimately decided to purchase and install it in the master bedroom. Upon receiving the products, the client expressed their satisfaction with how well the lighting fixtures aligned with their requirements. We are delighted to share this case study with everyone, hoping to provide inspiration and ideas for their own home renovations.

" Crafts from different spaces and times blend in; it is favoured over monotonous pieces rolled out of a factory machine. "
In master bedroom, the full height cabinets are lined with a handwoven silk upholstery, a mural depicting some Chinese cranes flapping about beneath a magnificent tree. The subtly goldish silk was woven in Thailand, in 3 by 2 metres, followed by three months of hand-brush paintings in Hangzhou, China. Black and whites are brushed against the finely sparkling canvas in a contemporary Chinese style. We mounted the master-piece into six wardrobe doors in nickel-silver frames, and adorn it with the chic metal door handles - acquired from the local antique shops in Lascar Row. The circular handles are made of hammered brass by craftsman, dangling a tassel in cords, and it reminds one of the ancient door handles in old China. This meticulous blend of details has created a glistening artwork, which fuses the crafts and flavours from different cities and time. It stands elegantly, amidst the monochromatic tone, as the centre piece in the bedroom.

If just one image can convey the intention and concept of this project, it’s this.
Originally planned as a more simple open-plan kitchen renovation, this project grew in scope to include a beautifully architected primary suite with views across the treetops and vaulted ceilings, over 4 metres high.
The actual footprint of the bedroom was not extensive, yet the ceiling height and expanse of windows (which we’ll come to next time), ensured an unmatched sense of light and airiness. Taking advantage of the wall height, I was keen to treat it in such a way that my clients felt they were sleeping amongst the trees and so, was delighted to find this dramatic mural echoing the trunks and bark outside.
The slatted sideboard adds beautiful texture and the styling, again restrained, yet considered all goes to add to the sense of calm and serenity that guided this scheme. I hope you’ll agree the overall feeling makes you want to draw a deep breath…and maybe have a little nap…
