Our clients already had a cottage on Torch Lake that they loved to visit. It was a 1960s ranch that worked just fine for their needs. However, the lower level walkout became entirely unusable due to water issues. After purchasing the lot next door, they hired us to design a new cottage. Our first task was to situate the home in the center of the two parcels to maximize the view of the lake while also accommodating a yard area. Our second task was to take particular care to divert any future water issues. We took necessary precautions with design specifications to water proof properly, establish foundation and landscape drain tiles / stones, set the proper elevation of the home per ground water height and direct the water flow around the home from natural grade / drive. Our final task was to make appealing, comfortable, living spaces with future planning at the forefront. An example of this planning is placing a master suite on both the main level and the upper level. The ultimate goal of this home is for it to one day be at least a 3/4 of the year home and designed to be a multi-generational heirloom.

The primary feature of the home is the commercial mahogany grade window wall system along the perimeter of the two-story living room, stair tower, and master bedroom. This ‘DURATHERM’ window system held true to its commercial aspects while lending a residential flavor with its mahogany finish. Although the two story window unit in the living room faces west, a substantial roof overhang, 1-inch insulated low-e glass, properly placed linear slot diffusers, and exterior insulated metal ductwork make the home very comfortable with a monthly electrical bill of less than $300.00 per month.

This house was in need of a true master suite. The mid-century home had a small master bedroom with a half bathroom. In the daylight basement, there was a beautiful room with a fireplace, large windows, a utility closet, and a separate bathroom. This was a perfect space to remodel the bathroom and make it a true master suite. We doubled the bathroom's size by taking a utility room in the garage. This allowed us to add floor space and large windows for maximum daylight. We also added an oversized tiled shower, double sinks, and a linen closet to help increase the function of the space.
This home has a lot of charm with the unusual rooms in it. The house didn’t present itself in a true mid-century modern feel, but more on the traditional side. This allowed us to design with some unique features such as the patterned tile flooring, satin brass fixtures, floating vanity, and simple flat moldings. Updating the space gave this growing family a quiet oasis for mom and dad to wind down properly.

The soothing hues of soft blue and ivory take center stage in the main foyer. “We had to be mindful of the proper size and scale of this space,” Booysen says of the room’s long but narrow dimension. “We wanted to create a little bit of drama here,” Schlein says, “and so we placed a contemporary chair tufted and covered in a taupe linen blend and finished in a flame stitch. A great statement piece from Design Masters.” Just across the space is an upholstered console in grey faux leather and fashioned with silver nailheads. Urns and vases in various sizes in a sky blue hue are from the accessories collection found at Wostbrock Home Interiors and find a niche on and near the console.

This beautiful bedroom is small and narrow. The placement of the entry door, closet, windows, and bathroom door made space planning difficult. With proper measurements and planning, anything is possible - even in a small space.

This couple in the La Verne Heights gated community contacted me when it was time to remodel their master bathroom. After years of debating whether or not they should, they decided it was time to treat themselves to a proper master bathroom. They requested a classic look and finishes that would stand the test of time. The “after” is a complete transformation.
Custom cabinetry, made to look like furniture with crystal knobs, was crafted and topped off with a slab of Cambria Quartz. The flooring and shower are clad in marble, surrounded by frameless glass. The soaking tub is Victoria + Albert and framed with custom pleated panels with custom Roman shades beneath for privacy. Chrome fixtures and lighting were added for a touch of classic sparkle.

A make-up table was partially recessed into the wall between the Master Bedroom and Bathroom to allow proper walk space. The custom grommet in the wood top allows easy access to a concealed outlet in the knee space for the owner’s lighted makeup mirror. The use of another Docking Drawer concealed the power outlets in drawers to keep the top and walls free of clutter.

"TaylorPro completely remodeled our master bathroom. We had our outdated shower transformed into a modern walk-in shower, new custom cabinets installed with a beautiful quartz counter top, a giant framed vanity mirror which makes the bathroom look so much bigger and brighter, and a wood ceramic tile floor including under floor heating. Kerry Taylor also solved a hot water problem we had by installing a recirculating hot water system which allows us to have instant hot water in the shower rather than waiting forever for the water to heat up.
From start to finish TaylorPro did a professional, quality job. Kerry Taylor was always quick to respond to any question or problem and made sure all work was done properly. Bonnie, the resident designer, did a great job of creating a beautiful, functional bathroom design combining our ideas with her own. Every member of the TaylorPro team was professional, hard-working, considerate, and competent. Any remodeling project is going to be somewhat disruptive, but the TaylorPro crew made the process as painless as possible by being respectful of our home environment and always cleaning up their mess at the end of the day. I would recommend TaylorPro Design to anyone who wants a quality project done by a great team of professionals. You won't be disappointed!"
