This project was completed for a client who recently moved from a California mansion to a Georgia penthouse in order to be closer to family. It was a huge down size so it was important for our design team to help obtain that same grand appeal that the client was accustomed to, within a significantly smaller home. We created an open space plan that would allow for entertaining many guests at once. With proper scale in consideration, we chose to use large furniture that would make up the living room and dining space to reinforce that grand effect. Lending to this concept we hung drapery higher than the window frames and a bold ceiling fixture in order to compliment the height of the ceiling. Along with these accommodations we utilized the clients existing collection of eclectic wall art to fill the bare walls. In the end we were able to create a space that did not feel foreign to our client, but rather like home.

Words are hard to describe how gorgeous this bathroom is! Unfortunately, the original space was chopped up and did not flow properly, so I started with the original footprint and removed everything internally. The homeowner's requirements for the new area were a large vanity with a separate make-up vanity, steam shower, coffee station, water closet, and a built-in TV with storage.
The custom inset cabinetry combines raised and flat panel doors and drawers, and the mosaic water-jet marble tile is the focal point entering the steam shower. Gold lighting brings warmth into the space, and the two windows let natural light stream in.
Make sure you see the adjoining custom closet designed to harmonize with the bathroom.

The dining Room was given a personal touch with "Pup Portraits" I commissioned of his beloved Golden Retrievers.
I worked with the Client to pick the perfect "bodies" for his dogs' heads to best showcase their personalities. Then, I worked with the Artist to choose the proper coloring for the portraits that would compliment the existing oil painting in the room. Finally, I added ornate frames with personalized gold nameplates to each portrait.

We altered a master bathroom to create a spa like accessible bathroom. The toilet was relocated from it’s tight space to the right of the vanity, where a linen closet used to be, allowed for proper clearance and bar placement. One of the grab bars folds up when not in use. The former toilet area became a beautiful barrier free shower with an infinity drain along the far wall. The shower has a rain head and a Kohler Artifacts hand shower. The six shower spray heads are hooked to a thermostatic valve controlled by software that can be set via an app or control pad. It was a challenge to fit the multiple shower heads’ plumbing, the thermostatic valve box and it’s electrical in the walls with the backer the multiple grab bars required. We had to coordinate the subcontractors in this area so the backer was not disturbed and all of the systems had the space they needed. The tile in the shower has two accents, a chair rail tile over an ornate accent tile. Three niches in the wall have the quartz countertop material as the shelf. To accommodate the infinity drain, the shower floor has additional backer to support the weight of an occupied wheelchair. We removed the existing shower and installed a SanSpa wheelchair transfer bathtub with air massage. The linen closet hides the shower plumbing access. The molding at the top of the cabinet hides the wifi receiver that is needed for the shower controls. A large ornate mirror hangs at an angle above the vanity so the homeowner can be seated and use the mirror. The stunning statement countertop is Avalanche quartz from Pental. This remodel was a challenge to craft the structure behind the beauty, that allowed a master bath to evolve into a completely wheelchair accessible spa retreat.

The primary bedroom, with stunning bones and original bay windows, had a tired, unimpressive fireplace. Its non-working function was upstaged by a tired, green glass mosaic surround. We refreshed it with a beautifully-veined white marble, painted black interior and a collection of candles for a romantic glow. Custom window treatments with Schumacher fabric, a proper window seat and a coordinating upholstered bed add a soothing softness to the space. Tailored touches including a cut-to-fit rug, beach-themed art (a nod to their home on Martha’s Vineyard) and a pair of caned sitting chairs helped to create a stately and luxurious retreat.

A 6,000 square foot 2-story new home complex in Milpitas was designed to facilitate the owners’ large business parties and gatherings, to have rooms for the kids to come back to upstairs, and a ground floor master suite with a huge walk-in closet. Several separate structures make up the dwelling: The main house, 3-car garage with carport for overflow parking, and a separate entertainment and recreation building separated by a courtyard from the main house.
The business activities include gatherings in the hundreds of people, so parking was maximized and guests can flow in through a separate gate to party in the courtyard and recreation building. Inside this structure is a wet bar, billiard room, workout gym and home theater. The main house ground floor has formal and informal living rooms, open kitchen and master suite with views and expansive windows in every direction. The house is sited on the crestline of a hill with views of the San Francisco Bay and private golf course below. The indoor-outdoor aspect of the house is further accentuated with outside living and dining areas.
High ceilings and expansive glass walls dissolve the sense of enclosure taking advantage of the site’s openness and privacy. The owner’s suite is downstairs in anticipation of aging-in-place, and upstairs there are three bedrooms and four bathrooms plus a sitting area lounge and casual TV loft area.
The house sits on one acre at the top of a low hill range overlooking Milpitas. The city was very cognizant of the importance of keeping a low profile at this crestline and required extensive story poles and photo evidence of the proper height and siting so as not to be seen from certain selected vantage points.

This project in Bozeman, Montana is a complete exterior remodel, featuring a new front entry, bedroom window seats, and master bedroom balcony with French doors. A key visual feature for the entry is the use of articulated architectural steel connections.
A successful remodeling project starts with a clear vision and good design, but that is only half of it.
The other half is matching a client with committed professionals that will manage a project with quality work, proper attention to detail, and good communication is essential. We achieved this goal as our contractor, the subcontractors, and the journeyman carpenters are performing at a high level, so much so that our client narrated his experience for this video blog.
Having a client willing to share this experience with us is a great way to showcase what a positive remodeling process can look like.

Interior Design done properly creates not just a look for your home, but also a feel. Take this Master Bedroom designed and decorated by the Houston based firm Frontier Custom Builders, Inc. At first sight you see a relaxing vacation style room perfect for much needed get a ways. The ambiance sets the perfect stage for an escape from everyday living. Look closer, just out the massive panoramic window and notice that you are looking into a regular suburban back yard. That is what a home should be, and what a room should offer. We believe that your home should be designed and decorated in way that caters to your need to rest and unwind peacefully. We give you a place for just that.

Homes 25 years or older often have minor mold issues to complicate whatever functionality and outdated issues need addressing. That was certainly the case in this Eagan master suite remodel that screamed “Tear me apart and put me back together so I work!”
So that’s what we did. After addressing the mold issues we shortened the vanity footprint, added that space to an enlarged low-threshold shower with a bench seat, and moved a lot of the storage needs to new cabinets in an adjacent properly enclosed water closet with a door. The tile work was extensive and really made a statement of luxury. New warm LVP flooring finished the aesthetic and livability upgrades.
The challenge in working with existing materials, such as oak doors, in a space that is going to change dramatically, is finding ways to incorporate them with the right balance. So, we replaced all the doors and floating shelves with an upgraded oak in the same tone, which worked in harmony with the taupes and grays we chose for the rest of the bathroom space.
As the homeowner put it, "I'm grateful for Murphy Brothers as a whole, for the work that they did to help make what I thought was my vision even better."

Studio 1200 partnered with this family as they looked at numerous old houses in their search for the perfect home to settle into with their young family. Our client’s wish list included a 3-car garage and a nice kitchen with lots of light and space for two microwaves. In 2011, they purchased a 1950’s Center Hall Colonial that had good bones, but had not been well maintained. To help create their dream home, we gutted the existing house, designed multiple additions, and reorganized the existing spaces so that the house worked properly for them as a family. We also selected all of the interior finishes and worked with the owners on selecting all of the decorative lighting.
The biggest structural change included reconfiguring the main stair in order to create a more gracious two-story front entry hall. In the existing conditions, the stair protruded into the living room on teh first floor and left a tiny hallway on the second floor.
The entire renovation included a master suite with three additional bedrooms and two baths, a home office and laundry on the second floor; living room, dining room, bar, kitchen, family room, mudroom, and 3-car garage on the first floor; and a comfortable family room, gym, full bathroom, bar, and storage space in the basement.
The exterior improvements included new siding, windows, roofing, a new portico, and dormers. The patio and landscaping remain a work in progress.
