This den can be used as it is shown; as a home office. It can also be used as a craft room, study of children play room. The wall openings allow for the open concept feel, but give just enough privacy. In this design we added a chalkboard and built in shleves which are also versatile for the different options there are with this room.

Modern luxury meets warm farmhouse in this Southampton home! Scandinavian inspired furnishings and light fixtures create a clean and tailored look, while the natural materials found in accent walls, casegoods, the staircase, and home decor hone in on a homey feel. An open-concept interior that proves less can be more is how we’d explain this interior. By accentuating the “negative space,” we’ve allowed the carefully chosen furnishings and artwork to steal the show, while the crisp whites and abundance of natural light create a rejuvenated and refreshed interior. This sprawling 5,000 square foot home includes a salon, ballet room, two media rooms, a conference room, multifunctional study, and, lastly, a guest house (which is a mini version of the main house).

Horizontal board & batten facades are sheltered by long runs of hipped roofs and are divided down the middle by the homes singular gabled wall. At the foyer, this gable takes the form of a classic three-part archway. Going through the archway and into the interior, reveals a stunning see-through fireplace surround with raised natural stone hearth and rustic mantel beams. Subtle earth-toned wall colors, white trim, and natural wood floors serve as a perfect canvas to showcase patterned upholstery, black hardware, and colorful paintings. The kitchen and dining room occupies the space to the left of the foyer and living room and is connected to two garages through a more secluded mudroom and half bath. Off to the rear and adjacent to the kitchen is a screened porch that features a stone fireplace and stunning sunset views. Occupying the space to the right of the living room and foyer is an understated master suite and spacious study featuring custom cabinets with diagonal bracing. The master bedroom’s en suite has a herringbone patterned marble floor, crisp white custom vanities, and access to a his and hers dressing area. The four upstairs bedrooms are divided into pairs on either side of the living room balcony. Downstairs, the terraced landscaping exposes the family room and refreshment area to stunning views of the rear yard. The two remaining bedrooms in the lower level each have access to an en suite bathroom.

The clients for this modern stucco and masonry house had lived for 18 years in a smaller house on this same site: a level, corner lot with many mature trees. They wanted generous living spaces for the family of four to be able to be together and entertain while still allowing each person private spaces for sleeping, recreation, and study. The house is designed in two wings creating an "L" along the site's corner and around a courtyard with a lap pool. The shape of the house allows the longest view of the site as a captured quiet space, now fully landscaped. The "L" wings accommodate the bedrooms, dens and studies. In the crook of the wings sits a higher family and public entertaining space that overlooks the garden and pool. My clients now enjoy maximum urban privacy and full-site enjoyment of their property in their close-to-downtown neighborhood. This cozy lake cottage skillfully incorporates a number of features that would normally be restricted to a larger home design. A glance of the exterior reveals a simple story and a half gable running the length of the home, enveloping the majority of the interior spaces. To the rear, a pair of gables with copper roofing flanks a covered dining area and screened porch. Inside, a linear foyer reveals a generous staircase with cascading landing. Further back, a centrally placed kitchen is connected to all of the other main level entertaining spaces through expansive cased openings. A private study serves as the perfect buffer between the homes master suite and living room. Despite its small footprint, the master suite manages to incorporate several closets, built-ins, and adjacent master bath complete with a soaker tub flanked by separate enclosures for a shower and water closet. Upstairs, a generous double vanity bathroom is shared by a bunkroom, exercise space, and private bedroom. The bunkroom is configured to provide sleeping accommodations for up to 4 people. The rear-facing exercise has great views of the lake through a set of windows that overlook the copper roof of the screened porch below.

Stone and stucco combine with multiple gable peaks and an impressive, front entry to create stunning curb appeal for this European house plan. The grand foyer greets visitors on the inside, while the dining room and bedroom/study flank the foyer on both sides. Further along, the great room includes a cathedral ceiling, porch access and wall of windows to view outdoor scenery. The breakfast room and kitchen are also open to the great room and one another, simplifying mealtime. On the other side of the house plan, a large master suite was designed to pamper the homeowner. A bowed sitting area grants extra space in the bedroom, while the luxurious master bath features a corner shower, large soaking tub, his-and-her vanities and private privy. In the basement are three bedrooms, each with their own full bath, an added treat! A large rec room with fireplace completes the basement and provides an additional gathering space in the house plan.

Home office - coastal home office idea in Boston

Constructed in two phases, this renovation, with a few small additions, touched nearly every room in this late ‘50’s ranch house. The owners raised their family within the original walls and love the house’s location, which is not far from town and also borders conservation land. But they didn’t love how chopped up the house was and the lack of exposure to natural daylight and views of the lush rear woods. Plus, they were ready to de-clutter for a more stream-lined look. As a result, KHS collaborated with them to create a quiet, clean design to support the lifestyle they aspire to in retirement. To transform the original ranch house, KHS proposed several significant changes that would make way for a number of related improvements. Proposed changes included the removal of the attached enclosed breezeway (which had included a stair to the basement living space) and the two-car garage it partially wrapped, which had blocked vital eastern daylight from accessing the interior. Together the breezeway and garage had also contributed to a long, flush front façade. In its stead, KHS proposed a new two-car carport, attached storage shed, and exterior basement stair in a new location. The carport is bumped closer to the street to relieve the flush front facade and to allow access behind it to eastern daylight in a relocated rear kitchen. KHS also proposed a new, single, more prominent front entry, closer to the driveway to replace the former secondary entrance into the dark breezeway and a more formal main entrance that had been located much farther down the facade and curiously bordered the bedroom wing. Inside, low ceilings and soffits in the primary family common areas were removed to create a cathedral ceiling (with rod ties) over a reconfigured semi-open living, dining, and kitchen space. A new gas fireplace serving the relocated dining area -- defined by a new built-in banquette in a new bay window -- was designed to back up on the existing wood-burning fireplace that continues to serve the living area. A shared full bath, serving two guest bedrooms on the main level, was reconfigured, and additional square footage was captured for a reconfigured master bathroom off the existing master bedroom. A new whole-house color palette, including new finishes and new cabinetry, complete the transformation. Today, the owners enjoy a fresh and airy re-imagining of their familiar ranch house. The Summit Project consisted of architectural and interior design services to remodel a house. A design challenge for this project was the remodel and reconfiguration of the second floor to include a primary bathroom and bedroom, a large primary walk-in closet, a guest bathroom, two separate offices, a guest bedroom, and adding a dedicated laundry room. An architectural study was made to retrofit the powder room on the first floor. The space layout was carefully thought out to accommodate these rooms and give a better flow to the second level, creating an oasis for the homeowners.
