The corner of a mahogany library became the cover page to a Morris county, NJ magazine featuring home libraries. The true mahogany wainscoting and chairrail created a welcoming space to sit and read or listen to music. Furniture and window treatments were custom added to create an old world look. Window treatments were fabricated from cashmere wool. The wallpaper and fabric valance are from the Ralph Lauren collection.

A new home can be beautiful, yet lack soul. For a family with exquisite taste, and a love of the artisan and bespoke, LiLu created a layered palette of furnishings that express each family member’s personality and values. One child, who loves Jackson Pollock, received a window seat from which to enjoy the ceiling’s lively splatter wallpaper. The other child, a young gentleman, has a navy tweed upholstered headboard and plaid club chair with leather ottoman. Elsewhere, sustainably sourced items have provenance and meaning, including a LiLu-designed powder-room vanity with marble top, a Dunes and Duchess table, Italian drapery with beautiful trimmings, Galbraith & Panel wallcoverings, and a bubble table. After working with LiLu, the family’s house has become their home. ---- Project designed by Minneapolis interior design studio LiLu Interiors. Instead of providing separate bedrooms for the two young children, we designed a single large bedroom with a sliding wall of Douglas fir. Multi-Layered Distressed Celadon Paint Finish was applied over plain white cabinets. Beadboard added to back and stained. Cllient replaced wood fireplace with stacked stone.

The homeowner wanted to add more functionality to her small first-floor half-bath by introducing a shower. We introduced an enclosed glass stall with a base that mirrors the period baseboards lining the room, as well as period-appropriate lighting.

The small home office is tucked off of the entry but allows for a quite space to get work done.
