With all these ideas in mind, we have started the construction of this basement. The main event room with big pub style bar fully equipped with a wine cooler, beer fridge, and a built-in wall for all top shelf liquor. Built with dark cherry wood and exquisite stone top under stylish pendent lights is a heart of this space. A hidden storage door built with display shelving just to the right of the bar, giving access to storage behind this bar. Created for a client seeking a true lock-and-leave space beneath their daughter’s home, this colourful basement suite brings personality, comfort, and function together in a thoughtful way. Designed to feel distinct from a traditional lower-level suite, the space offers a unique style that immediately feels inviting and memorable. Green tones play a defining role throughout the suite, bringing energy and character to the interiors while complementing the detailed finishes layered throughout the home. Every element was considered to create a space that feels both practical and special, with a design approach that reflects the client’s desire for something with individuality and charm. The result is a suite that balances independence with warmth, offering a beautifully detailed retreat that the client can truly enjoy and love.

A client was eager to turn a dated built-in unit into a sophisticated, entertaining space that was highly functional. The gunmetal open shelving unit with integrated LED lighting in the horizontal bars makes a bold design statement. Twin cabinetry columns with seeded glass fronts and interior lighting provide ample storage for spirits and glassware, while lower cabinets seamlessly conceal beverage drawers and a wine refrigeration unit. The modern, frameless slab cabinetry is accented by unlaquered brass hardware, with subtle ribbing adding texture. The marble countertop is backed by a 10" high marble backsplash that blends into the faux finish painted to seamlessly match the striking stone. A memorable design element is the circular, burnished nickel sink with satin brass ring detailing.

It’s first impression was memorable as immediately after entering the front door, just past the dining table, there was a tree growing in the middle of home! Upon further inspection of the space it became apparent that this home had undergone several alterations during its lifetime... The homeowners unabashedness towards colour and willingness to embrace the home’s mid-century architecture made this home one of a kind. The existing T&G cedar ceiling, dropped beams, and ample glazing naturally leant itself to a mid-century space.

Inspiration for a modern dining room remodel in New York

Our goal on this project was to create a live-able and open feeling space in a 690 square foot modern farmhouse. We planned for an open feeling space by installing tall windows and doors, utilizing pocket doors and building a vaulted ceiling. An efficient layout with hidden kitchen appliances and a concealed laundry space, built in tv and work desk, carefully selected furniture pieces and a bright and white colour palette combine to make this tiny house feel like a home. We achieved our goal of building a functionally beautiful space where we comfortably host a few friends and spend time together as a family. John McManus
