A home for two artists and their young daughter, this project sought to imbue a Brooklyn townhouse with the memory of the owner's former soho loft. To this end, the parlor floor was entirely opened up to create a floor-through space culminating in new full height glass doors. The client's extensive collection of art books line the entire west wall, with sliding panels providing space for the hanging of art. The shelves are spaced in an ascending gradient from small to large such that books can be organized by size. A series of existing light shafts were uncovered and put to new use as vitrines for sculpture, introducing surprising moments of daylight to the interior of the building. This fun and bright office space is just what the client ordered! Her game boards and rug were the inspiration for this fun and fabulous space. She spends a lot of time in here and wanted to be surrounded by her favorite books and memories. Notice how we took the colors of the books and grouped them together by color after she divided them by subject. This provides a visually pleasing feel and she agreed that it was more comfortable to look at.

Bedroom - small modern carpeted bedroom idea in Oklahoma City with gray walls and no fireplace

After having lived in 22 different places all around the world, this family decided to settle in a Dutch colonial home in Harding Township. The house sits on a wonderful piece of property that is only challenged by the wetlands that surround it. For this reason, we had to work within the existing footprint and not consider any additions. The homeowners wanted to be able to host the holidays in their new home which meant we had an aggressive design and construction schedule. We started the design work in the Spring of 2012 and construction took place over the Summer and into the Fall. By Thanksgiving, the project was complete, with no meaningful cost overruns. Renovations included a new kitchen, mudroom, and office/library on the first floor and a new master suite, hall bath, home office, and laundry room upstairs. The challenge was creating comfortable space with clean lines that would accommodate the homeowner’s casual and worldly lifestyle, but would not feel out of place with the character of the existing house. The kitchen is a glorious hard-working space with lots of counter space, space for a giant farmer’s table, and symmetrical views through oversized double hung-windows out to the expansive yard. The master bath is outfitted with wood, stone, and metal, and also includes artifacts from some of their world travels. In a second phase of work, we designed some outbuilding to further enhance the character of the property. Currently we are working with the family to design a memorial to honor their child who died of Leukemia.

The 1990s home underwent a large renovation including a new kitchen and great room, master suite, home office and improvements to the exterior. Following the comprehensive remodel the home was outfitted with furnishings down to the last detail. We sprinkled in family treasures, memories and the magic felt outdoors. The vertical green tile introduces texture and calm, while curated pottery, books, and framed art add gentle storytelling. Soft brass accents and a sculptural clay pendant complete the warm-modern palette.

This 8200 square foot home is a unique blend of modern, fanciful, and timeless. The original 4200 sqft home on this property, built by the father of the current owners in the 1980s, was demolished to make room for this full basement multi-generational home. To preserve memories of growing up in this home we salvaged many items and incorporated them in fun ways.
